Young Dre Parker (Smith) moves to China with his mother (Henson), where cultural differences make it hard for the once-popular kid to adjust to his new life. Falling for a schoolmate makes him an enemy of the class bully, Cheng, a kung fu disciple. Dre, who knows a little karate but no kung fu, is aided by his building's handyman, Mr. Han (Chan), who teaches the youngster the kung fu's principles.
