Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker (2020)
Self Made: Inspired by the life of Madame C J Walker
I had read the very uplifting story of Madame C J Walker and thought it would make a great screenplay. This mini-series doe not disappoint! Throughly enjoyed the series and believe it was very well cast, as well as loved the period of time and the use of modern music. Madame C J Walker...an inspiring life well lived.
Dolemite Is My Name (2019)
Dolomite is right and tight!
Love this raw, gritty, inspiring film, with hustle and flow, way to go, Eddie Murphy! What a great film that shows never take no, or just do it yourself and keep on truckin'!
Judy (2019)
Bravo Rene!!!
Bravo Rene!!! This is an Oscar winning performance if I ever saw one! I loved you as Bridgitte Jones, but your performance as Judy Garland is by far one of the best most moving portrayals ever I have ever seen about the humanity and struggles of the iconic movie star legend, Judy Garland. Somewhere...over the rainbow, Judy is smiling about it! Thanks for showing us her humanity and frailty as a movie star, woman, and mother. You did Judy great, I believe she would be proud!
Hotel Mumbai (2018)
Hotel Mumbai keeps you on the edge of your seat!
A powerfully moving story of survival and the will to survive with real life hero every day people based on true events. This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat as you worry for those trapped in these terrorist attacks.
Mine (2016)
Mine, an intriguing and moving film
I will start by saying I am an Armie Hammer fan so it is easy for me to love this film. It is a different perspective on a war film that you wouldn't normally expect. The film delves into the human mind and spirit that I found deeply moving as war is hell and takes a toll on the whole of a person. An intriquing and moving film.
What We Do in the Shadows (2019)
A funny twist to a classic tale!
Absolutely love this funny twist to the classic vampire story! Written like a documentary/mockumentary style with clever satirical dialogue. We look forward to it every week at our house and always watch it in the dark, because, well...vampires can't be exposed to the light, ha! Great to see the talented Jermaine Clements back at work on this hilarious spoof!
Bolden (2019)
Interesting story on the history of jazz music.
I was much more excited to see how well the movie trailer was put together, promising a well done historical biopic film. While the scenes are beautifully done in a fantasy fashion, the costumes and scenery seemed period correct; the story was a bit hard to follow, pieced together like a patchwork quilt. I would love to see the working script from this film as it must have taken a genius to put this hodgepodge film together! I did wind up deciding the writer/director must have taken his cue from the inner thoughts of the troubled soul of this musical genius, Buddy Boldon. As it is said, there is a fine line between genius and lunatic. I will give this film 5 stars as I feel the settings, acting, musicial orchestration, etc, was well done, even though the story was a bit hard to follow.
They Shall Not Grow Old (2018)
They Shall Not Grow Old...nor be forgotten.
As a historical fiction writer, I absolutely love this amazing film so much I have seen it twice, both times with the commentary by director, Peter Jackson. It is wonderfully done with such detail to every scene. You feel as if you are there in the muddy, bloody trenches with these courageous and gallant boys and men. A truly inspiring and amazing way to honor the bravery and sacrifices of the lost generation. Bravo, Peter Jackson, and thank you for this brilliant and moving film. I shall never forget how They Shall Never Grow Old.
Tolkien (2019)
Lovely, haunting and inspiring story on the life and times of J. R. R. Tolkien.
I haven't been a fan of fantasy writing as I write historical fiction, however, the story of Tolkien's life and times are inspiring to know the how, when and why, he wrote as he did. I found myself moved to tears watching this beautiful film about this amazing man. It has now been over 100 years since WWI and we should remember the courage and sacrifices of this so called Lost Generation. This film is an inspiration if you are already a fan of Tolkien's writings, or a new fan such as myself. See this beautiful film as a backstory of the brilliant works of the fantasy genius writer, Tolkien.
