Superintelligence (2020)
Very disappointing
This is one of those "comedies" that you are not expected to laugh. Maybe you can muster a smile when Melissa McCarthy's does some of her patented physical humor, but that's it. Add to that a ridiculous plot, and you have two hours that you could've spent doing something better, like sleeping, perhaps.
On a related point, what happened to the career of Melissa McCarthy? If these are the roles she is accepting I'm sorry because I really thought she was talented, but I guess the mortgage won't pay itself.
Finally, I have to wonder, why are these kind of movies ever made? Not funny, not amusing in any way, just a half hearted attempt that seems some executive or investor should've said, "This script is garbage, come back when you have something good!"
Destination Wedding (2018)
Very funny. VERY. FUNNY.
This was a nice surprise. Found it looking for a movie in my wonderful Justwatch app.
The movie catches your attention immediately, delivering a seemingly non-stop stream of rapid-fire funny dialogue; so much so that you don't want to laugh so hard as to miss the next line.
I kept waiting for the movie to turn south and never did. A hidden gem, no doubt.
I get where some people are saying that the dialogue sounds fabricated. I agree, it's not natural, people don't talk like that. People don't usually look like Keanu Reeves or Wynona Ryder either. It's a movie! Suspension of disbelief, in this case in it's lowest almost undetectable form.
Anyway I rather laugh at this brilliant conversation that might seem made up, than give pity laughs at anything that is coming out of Hollywood or Netflix (see Adam Sandler) these days.
Sandy Wexler (2017)
The worst "movie" I've ever seen
Adam Sandler, quit already. You haven't given us anything good since The Longest Yard, anything remotely funny since Zohan. You have been stealing our money for 15 years. Have some shame! Your legacy, once solidly as one of the best comedians to come out of SNL, has turned to crap. Quit while you are behind.
Yes, your movies were always silly, but at least you could count on them for some laughs, now that's looong gone.
Sandy Wexler... where to start? What a piece of hot manure of a movie. A bunch of has-and- never-beens talking fondly about the inadequecies of a lying and seemingly mentally-challenged movie agent that nevertheless survives in Hollywood by working with talentless losers. Feel sorry for Jennifer Hudson, the only star in her prime in this fiasco, and the only one that really seem to give an effort to save this Titanic.
The only redeemable quality of this movie is that it manages to create a new genre: "Not Comedy", that's the only way to describe it. Or perhaps, it is indeed a comedy and the joke is on us, and Adam Sandler is the one laughing, all the way to the bank.
If I was Netflix, I demand my money back from Sandler, and a hefty amount for damages to your brand, because, eventhough the movie is free with my subscription, I still feel robbed.
