As a player of Minecraft for almost a decade, I have waited a very long time for this and unfortunately it wasn't worth the wait.
The main problem with this movie is the plot. It just isn't that interesting, it follows the same path as so many other movies that came before it. If they have gone down the 'player' is the character route, (Like in Jumanji) they would have appealed far more to the Minecraft player base. That's what we want to see, not a run of the mill snooze-fest. In fact i was more interested by sub plot about a villager than the main story. The script isn't much better, with cliches and over-acted scenes to try to generate a reaction, They might have well nodded and winked at the camera. Sure i get it's a kids movie at heart, but kids are not dumb, don't treat them as if they are by giving such corny lines.
Another issue i have is the casting. The kids are just fine, nothing special but not terrible, but Jack Black and Jason Mamoa are badly cast. Black isn't as loveable as he thinks he is and Mamoa isn't as funny as he thinks he is. And together they are have no chemistry at all.
It's not all critizism i have though, i like all game references, like the 'first house' and 'chicken jockeys', and of course the Technoblade reference is perfect, but sadly it just feels as if this was made by people that knew about Minecraft but are not Minecraft gamers. Watch some of the Youtube Minecraft Short stories for a much better, more in tune take on such an iconic game.

This is the latest Netflix Korean offering, which stands up against several other similar movies.
So the basis of the plot revolves around a kidnapper and a Pastor, but the story takes may twists and turns and lines between good and bad are blurred, which if course is far more to how life actually is than most of Hollywoods superhero style movies.
It keeps you engaged throughout the whole movie, is she alive, is she not being a running theme throughout. Look, there are some flaws here, the storyline isn't anything groundbreaking + there's no big twist at the end, but it's thrilling enough to keep you entertained till the credits roll. Another downside is how the characters make some terrible choices; a detective goes to a suspected crime scene alone + the perpetrator not covering his tracks at all being two of the most notable. However these are mistakes many movies make and didn't ruin the suspense for me.
I also liked the way religion was explored heavily but never shown in a preachy way. Whether there was any divine interventions going on is left to the viewers imagination, which means neither Theists or Atheists should be offended, Lastly despite what another reviewer has said, the acting is superb, they put western actors to shame, i cried at the end. I think the other reviewer may just be racist.
All in all, i highly recommend it if you are a fan of the genre, if not, it may be a little slow for you.

OMG i had to review this. Its honestly one of the worst movies ive ever seen.
I cant even summarise the plot because there isn't one. Every scene seems completely unrelated to the previous. We have no idea who anyone is, what their motivations are or what they are even doing there. The script is as bad, it feels like it was written by a teenager with no writing experience, with mumbo jumbo piled in that even the most woo believers would have trouble understanding and accepting.
It feels like it was meant to be a horror, which is odd to start with as Hellboy is usually more of a superhero and would appeal to a much wider audience, but if it was done well, a horror would be fine, but it was so ridiculously over the top acted with annoying background music and terrible pacing that it was more like a comedy in places.
The lead actor was Ok i guess, but nothing special and the make up was good, but it was such a car crash of a movie and wayy too slow + boring that i couldn't even bring myself to watch it to the end. So it may have improved, but if i have to watch half a snore fest with no direction in order to hope it goes somewhere, it ain't worth watching.
And to those who said it's more like a fan movie, well that is giving it far too much credit, as some fan movies are actually really good and sometimes better than the original (take the new star wars films for example compared to the YT KOTOR fan videos). This instead feels like the type of movie someone would make while smoking a bong.
