The Gringo Papi (2022)
Even less funny than the other Rogan parasites
About as funny as a barrel full of dead babies. It's not even ironically funny. Just 25 minutes of absolute garbage. What did I expect honestly from Papa Rogan's number one protégé?
Bob Hope's All-Star Comedy Look at the Fall Season: It's Still Free and Worth It! (1981)
Beast of an All Star Comedy
Bob Hope made millions and millions and millions of dollars, which according to one CTE riddled dunce is the true measure of a man. Money isn't everything but Bob Hope had a lot more of it (and talent) than B. Schlobb.
Bryan Callen: Complicated Apes (2019)
Finally a funny comedy special
Compared to a lot of the garbage out there (e.g. No Pain, You'd Be Surprised, etc) Complicated Apes is a masterpiece.
Chris D'Elia: No Pain (2020)
Very disappointing
If only Chris had spent as much time working on this special as he did nattering away on his pals' podcasts about the craft of comedy and 'what is funny', perhaps we might have been spared this lukewarm stand-up performance.
Below the Belt (2018)
A sad reflection of the current state of Showtime
As a long time fan of Showtime, as well as a combat sports and comedy enthusiast, I was interested in their latest digital offering in this area. This was a mistake. I am frankly disgusted that this is passed off as acceptable content in 2020.
Among the lowlights of what I have seen, the host (Brandon Schwaub) made a number of derogatory comments regarding the ethnicity of the hosts of UFC on Fox, and also asserted that homeless people 'do not matter'. The fact Showtime support these views is deeply disturbing and I will not be subscribing to Showtime going forward.
I'm Not Surprised (2019)
Exquisitely produced and thoroughly researched expose
The documentation brilliantly takes us on a journey exploring themes of unfulfilled talent, nepotism, narcissism, the obesity crisis, and racism in modern day America.
On a side note, it is high time the Academy looked at loosening the nomination requirements for documentary films. Lack of theatrical release notwithstanding, this was the clear documentary non-fiction masterpiece of film in 2019.
Brendan Schaub: You'd Be Surprised (2019)
Dreadful stuff
I was looking forward to this special, given my strong interest in both MMA and stand-up comedy. Unfortunately Brandon Schwaub did indeed surprise me, as this purported 'stand-up comedy special' contained no perceptible comedy at all. While Mr Schwaub leans heavily on racist tropes for cheap laughs (are the laughs even real, or is there a laugh track?), the greatest sin of this abomination is the fact it is boring. Unfunny, racist, full of lies, and above all else, boring. The fact I wasted close to an hour of my life watching this puffy wash-up flail about on stage is something that will no doubt haunt me on my deathbed.
