Persuasion (2022)
If you are a an Austen fan this will enrage you
This is Persuasion but not by Jane Austen . Filmed as though it was a comic strip. Missed all the most beautiful parts of the romantic dialogue . I just wish they would leave Austen novels as they are . They even gave it the Bridgerton treatment but Bridgerton is a fantasy regency story and as such is first rate . This story is a contemporary regency novel so leave it alone .
Elementary (2012)
Started well but ....
I really enjoyed the first and second season but suddenly in season 3 there is a change . The storyline is not as interesting but what really annoys me is the over acting by Johnny Lee Miller . Why it is just happening in this season when he was just right as Sherlock in the previous two I have no idea . I hope this stops soon before I get to season 4 or I may never reach it .
Eternals (2021)
A poor Marvel film
It was too long . Too much back ground information at the start of the film . It needed to lose 30 minutes . Sadly the story was pretty grim . I would rather have the Avengers looking after us than this lot of questionable " heroes" . However it had some light hearted moments to relieve the mood of the story . All round .....a bit of a flop and far from enjoyable .
Loki (2021)
Echoes of The Prisoner
Interesting . The last episode was a bit slow . Now I have watched the series I realised it was similar in a way to the old British series The Prisoner that had a cult following . To be sure I'll have to watch the next series .
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
Good story line
Enjoyed the story and warmed to the Falcon and the Winter Soldier more than I did in the films . I cannot understand why some people have given it such low ratings . I for one hope they continue the series .
The Mandalorian: Chapter 16: The Rescue (2020)
Loved the ending but felt sad at the parting
I have loved the series so far . The ending to season 2 was a surprise but a good one . Still felt sad at the parting but felt they might just be re-united at some point .
Rebecca (2020)
Loved it
Great entertaining film with romance and suspense and it kept to the book . The actors were great . Loved Mrs Danvers and Jack in particular . Lily James was a big improvement on Joan Fontaine . Some lovely views in the film . A glossy Ben Wheatley film .
Radioactive (2019)
Interesting film
I found it to be an interesting film about the Curies and their discoveries . Rosamund Pike conveyed well the fact that Marie Curie was a strongminded woman . Sam Riley has her husband was excellent . Sometimes the scenes from the future did not come across well and spoilt the main plot of the film . It might have been better to put all that together at the end of the film with Pierre 's word about good and bad coming from their work .
Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
No memorable songs and forgettable
Disappointed . Emily Blunt was just not right for the part . No sparkle at all . The songs were pretty dreadful . The best thing were the cameo parts from the original cast of Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks .
Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears (2020)
Good end to the series
The series ended on a question mark and the film answers it . It was good fun and romantic . Loved her clothes. Enjoyable and entertaining film with a satisfactory ending .
Emma. (2020)
Different from any other Emma's and I loved it .
It picked out the major themes of the book and stressed them . It gave us an insight into the regency world . It was beautifully filmed . All the main actors performed well . The two that were not right seemed to be Emma's sister and her husband . Still it is the best version I have seen of Emma and I loved it .
The Souvenir (2019)
Awful !
Awful ! I like to be entertained . This was utterly boring . I think I am really nice giving it 1/10 .
Little Women (2019)
Spoilt at the very end .
The acting was good by all concerned . Some parts of the book were missed out and some parts were added from Alcott's other books . That was reasonable and fine but the ending was a step too far . It spoilt the film for me which I would have given a higher score . It highlighted the fact that the women's movement in the US is trying to change literature and history to suit their current movement .
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
Worst King Arthur film I have ever seen .
Utterly boring nonsense ! Nothing much to do with the legend . Just continual fighting . Actors deserved a better script .
Sometimes Always Never (2018)
It felt more like a play than a film
The flow of the film felt more like a play than a film . It did have a certain amount of charm though . I thought all the actors did a good job .
The King (2019)
Interesting portrayal of the young Henry V
I feel Henry V was portrayed as a drunk wayward prince who became an almost saintly king overnight . I enjoyed the film and found it very interesting . However I came away from it thinking Henry V's character was a bit unbelieveable .
Sanditon (2019)
Disappointed that it was nothing like a Jane Austen novel
Don't know where to begin really . The characters and their stories just didn't ring true . Just a bad script . Nothing like a Jane Austen novel .
Downton Abbey (2019)
Everything you would expect
The film had everything you would expect : good plot ,romance ,comedy, mischief, a little sadness, guilt about our past justice . This made for good entertainment . Glad I saw it .
A Star Is Born (2018)
Surprised by Lady Gaga
I thought Lady Gaga was excellent in the film . I supposed Bradley was also very good but I have the impression he is the same in all his films as though he is playing himself . The story line was familiar of course with a few changes to bring it up to date . Good overall .
La La Land (2016)
Prefer 30's to 60's musicals .This was disappointing !
The music was not memorable .The dancing was not inspiring . The story was not that interesting . How on earth this won awards I do not know ? Pretty Pathetic really .
The Favourite (2018)
Torture !
Went to see this with my grand daughter .She is a university student in her 3rd Year and I am a senior citizen . I would like to know why the films that get Best Film awards always seem to torture you . Think also of The Black Swan and The Danish Girl . This was grotesque ! The music gave me a headache and if it was supposed to be atmospheric it failed . The tale was sort of interesting but not enjoyable . The acting by the three women leads was very good and is why I give it 3 out of 10. Otherwise it would have had 0 points . My granddaughter who might have had a different view didn't .She thought it was really awful and almost stopped watching it . I really would not like to meet anyone who thought this was a wonderful film because I should suspect they had a screw loose .
Happy New Year, Colin Burstead (2018)
Kept my interest throughout and was amusing .
Excellent acting /directing . Really enjoyed the film and I kept smiling at events and comments to the end . Even loved Sam Riley's song though I have a soft spot for him anyway . I shall look forward to the series .
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
Kept my interest throughout
I was totally absorbed in the film as it was exciting and so much was happening that it commanded constant attention . As soon as it had finished I wanted to see the next one .
Christopher Robin (2018)
Enjoyed a great family film
Warm, touching and humorous . A tale for the family ,it is exactly what you would expect from Disney.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018)
A really enjoyable feel good film
Loved it better than the first . Lily James was impressive . Colin Firth and Julie Walters were amusing . The songs of course were great . Cher did a brilliant version of Fernando . Really very very good .We waited till all the credits were shown and saw the funniest clip at the end . The cinema had almost emptied by that time and there were only 7 of us who saw it .
