Fool Me Once (2024)
Lots of filler, yet hundreds of plotholes & unanswered questions
Admittedly, I have not read the book (yet), but there seems to be a lot of glaringly obviously plot holes and the ending is not satisfying at all. A lot of screen time wasted by having the characters ponder and pace around. Easily could have been a 2-part drama, but producers dragged it along for EIGHT long episodes.
There are a lot of suspicious characters (the football staff) who behave strangely, by hiding and sneak around (Shane), with no explanation as to what they were actually doing. As for the hidden cameras and car tracking being a plot device, some of the zooming in and lingering camera shots were totally unnecessary.
A lot of the speech throughout the script were clearly used purely as red-herrings for the audience's sake. E.g when Lily shouted "Dadda" at a bush.
Why did Judith give critical information to Maya about the rehab clinic when she knew that Maya was searching for Christopher. Judith knew that he was unstable and would have cracked to reveal the truth to Maya. So why did Judith write everything out, when she knew that Christopher's confession would ruin the entire Burkett Legacy.
The big reveal about Nicole was glaringly obvious from the start, since Kierce never received a single response from her. His supposed "Partner, Sponsor and Bestfriend" who never answered any text messages and she was never shown interacting with anybody else. It was not a plot-twist but an over-used trope to showcase Kierce as being "deranged".
The repeated sub-plot with Claire's exboyfriend did nothing to progress the story, since he only interacted with 2 characters who didn't even help to conclude his arc. His son was used as a prop, which he didn't even need to be used anyway. The headmaster clearly knew that Claire was faking and lying the whole time, yet he gave her the information she needed, so the son didn't need to be there. How did Claire know about the school in the first place?
Luther: The Fallen Sun (2023)
Yet another Netflix Flop
The plot is literally pulled straight from these TV episodes...If you've watched Black Mirror episode "Hated In The Nation"/ Misfits (any of the episodes involving "Jimmy Cisco"), you'll know exactly how the Luther film ends. The storylines are near identical, but this time around are executed much worse, in comparison to the Black Mirror and Misfits. Despite being more than 2 hours long, a lot of scenes have clearly been omitted to save time, at the expense of the audience's comprehension.
The only saving grace to this, is the beautiful cinematography to distract you from the awfully over-used plot with missing details.
Leave the World Behind (2023)
Plot holes & no conclusion
Heavily political: pro-USA but anti-anything else. (As of early 2024) This is a relatively new film, yet it has already aged incredibly badly. Full to the brim with product placement. The acting throughout the constant bickering scenes involving Amanda was so stilted & wooden.
There was no answer to the big mysteries that popped up within the plot. A lot of issues & problems occurred yet none of them were resolved. The only laughable moment was the ending with Rose's addiction to the show "Friends "
The blood imagery with the teeth was completely unnecessary & there was no explanation either.
And of course, a boringly predicable gun scene.
The Office: Broke (2009)
Underdog episode
This is such a delightful episode.
It is quite a bit of an emotional rollercoaster with just the perfect amount of humour sprinkled in too.
In my opinion this is the 2nd best episode of The Office. Very nearly perfection.
In particular the scenes with the Michael Scott Paper Company's delivery van. There are some very funny and light-hearted quotes that got me re-winding so that I could watch the clips again.
I would 100 percent recommend this episode to anymore.
The storyline is bittersweet and charming, likening it to an underdog-style tale, with a great closing scene, making reference to a previous episode.
The Office: Stress Relief (2009)
This has to be the best The Office (US) episode
I'm so glad that I didn't see (many) spoilers for this online (despite me being very late to finally getting round to watching it)!
Everything is beautifully written, perfect comedic timing & fantastic plot.
This is definitely the episode that I'll think about a lot in the future. Adorable, funny but also educational.
This definitely deserves to be crowded as the best The Office (US) episode. I'm going to rewatch this many times. It's an absolute treasure.
I believe this episode single-handedly is the key as to why it's such a popular show and remains a strong contender for having a long-lasting legacy.
A Song Called Hate (2020)
Beautiful & thought provoking
Awe-inspiring and educational.
Hatari are a deserving award-winning art performance group. Their words and messages show eye-opening scenes.
Highly recommend, brought a tear to my eyes
Hatrið mun sigra.
Remember to love.
American Song Contest (2022)
Nil Points
Why is this even a thing?
Oh of course, because American's are so desperate to make everything all about themselves.
Please just leave this alone. Eurovision for a sanctuary for Europeans. Nobody asked for this.
Americans always get jealous and have to ruin it for everybody else.
I love Kelly so much, but it's obvious that she's not getting pay enough. She clearly doesn't care. She knows it's gonna be notoriously bad.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Mild homoerotism with zero "on-sceen" plot. Boring
Pretentious empty symbolism. Annoying repetitive music motifs that will undoubtedly be stuck in your head.
Lots of very long, slow pointless scenes where the footage was just focusing on flies buzzing around or people stepping in muddy puddles.
The plot would suddenly skip a whole chapter and audience members are just expected to know everything that happened, with no context or clues as to what actually happened.
There was not enough dialogue to grasp what the situations were. It's a struggle to comprehend as the acting was wooden and subtle.
None of the actors showed any facial expressions.
Costume was incorrectly dated. The clothing choices were far to modern to have existed in the supposed era. It's also full of prop historical inaccuracies which completely destroys the immersion of the film
Why did it take several chapters for Phil to braid one rope? Obviously there was "symbolism" there but whatever the meaning of it is supposed to be, doesn't make any sense. It literally takes about 20mins to make a braid. It's not that deep.
Stop trying to make a metaphor out of it. It's a rope. Go and hang yourself with it.
The Rose character development was so predictable and shallow.
As a non-boomer I had to ask several people why the cowboys were laughing about Peter's trousers. Apparently there we're "baggy" which supposedly is justification for bullying and harassment.
The scene were Peter clearly cannot ride a horse even after 3 weeks, is only put in in the film to get the plot moving, no other reason. Yet he miraculously is able to ride on ride own a few minutes later. What?? Impecable logic.
The final scene is full of bible cringe.
Just throw the whole film in the bin.
Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
Worst "adaption" ever
Awful stilted acting, made me want to curl my toes. I watched it broadcast on television (December 2021) and the audio was badly synched with the footage. So there was a delay.
The costume and set design was very plastic-looking.
The Last Airbender (2010)
Marginally better than TLoK
ALL of the actors mis-pronounce the names of everything and everyone.
The fight scenes are painfully slow.
The whole cast is ugly and none them even look like their characters. Costume design looks cheap and bland. Appa is nightmare-inducing. Zukko's ponytail is missing.
The whole plot doesn't make any sense.
The only good point is that considering their budget, the special effects are okay.
Overall: Felt like it was a porn parody.
The Legend of Korra (2012)
I would have been an Equalist
I gave up watching, after only 6 episodes.
Korra is just a stroppy teenager with angst and an attitude problem.
Korra is supposed to be The Avatar, yet instead she's just a bully and an adulterer.
The Whole Nine Yards (2000)
Weird "Modern-Day" Film Noir
Absolutely riddled with mistakes and errors.
Everyone somehow instantly becomes smitten with Matthew Perry's character. I didn't get understands at all, found it very annoying how literally everyone was obsessed with him and thought he was a perfect guy.
The acting is awful and cringy. MiRaCuLouSLy every single white character survives in the end... yet every POC is killed. Main character falls in love with the pretty blonde woman... *Yawn*. Could it be any more basic?
The plot was was bizarre and the characters' actions were very cartoonish. I don't know why this is listed as a "Comedy" because there weren't any jokes in it.
Easily forgettable film.
Strappare lungo i bordi (2021)
Difficult to explain without spoiler but wow.
I nearly cried like 5 times. One of the best things I've watched in recent years.
It's like the narrator's brain is a tiny glimpse into the sort of stuff that goes on inside my head too.
It's like paranoia, anxiety & depression in a cartoon. There was a few weird moments but pretty much all of it was relatable.
I could easily watch it over and over again. I've just finished watching it dubbed in English, but I will be watching it in Italian from now onwards.
Did not expect it to be so thought provoking.
Soundtrack was perfect too.
There's only 6 episodes, so it's easy to watch.
Paddleton (2019)
Emotional Platonic Male Friendship
Every "Pro-Life" and "Anti-Euthanasia" Advocate should watch this.
One of the most eye-opening endings covering the topic of assisted suicide.
It's amazing. I cried.
The way it was filmed just made me feel like it nearing the end of life was such a relief. All the pain was leaving his body and it just looked so peaceful.
I think it's the first time I've watched something and thought, "Wow. It's not scary at all."
The soundtrack was beautiful and the scenes were humorous yet heartfelt. Overall production was such high quality.
Having only 2 main characters meant that the audience could delve deeper into the development of the story.
I would 100% watch it again. Definitely unforgettable.
Seven Pounds (2008)
Overrated
Slow, loooong scenes that drag on.
Pointless establishing shots and unnecessary close up zoom shots with no purpose other than to waste time. Boring soundtrack, cringe script writing, everything bleak tinted.
Will Smith's back must still be aching after literally carrying this whole production.
The F**k-It List (2020)
Filled with cringe
Completely missed the mark with trying to be "relatable and edgy" with the teenagers of this generation.
Acting was awful, and the script writing was embarrassing.
The survival effects and driving scenes were unrealistic.
Character development didn't seem to go anywhere?
Sixty Six (2006)
Delightfully Quaint
Fantastic acting in this Jewish British coming of age story. Brilliant story that keeps the audience's attention without them needing to be football fans.
Wild Target (2010)
Cringe Remake
Zero on screen chemistry. The whole plot was more bizarre, rather than "wild". This film did not need to be remade.
The foot-scene was vomit-inducing.
Why did she keep asking people how much they weigh?
Hansel, Gretel i Agentstvo Magii (2021)
"Charlatan"
What's so bad about being a charlatan? The constant accusations get annoying very quickly. Literally ruined the whole movie. Plot was weird and their pronunciations of people's names were wrong "Greddel" & "Barbar Jaegar" instead of Gretel and Baba Yaga. It's just cringe when it's featuring classic characters, yet they can't even say them correctly.
Stowaway (2021)
I lost brain cells after watching this
Don't even get me started on the fact that the producers made Daniel Dae Kim look like a weak unprofessional wimp.
I kept waiting for a storyline to happen but the film just ends. The whole story drags on very slowly, which could have easily been a 15-20min short film instead.
It's filled with plotholes and I could come up with a million possible solutions to their oxygen problem.
They never even addressed why Michael was there in the first place.
Zero character development, scientifically inaccurate, with no closure.
Very predictable and abrupt ending.
Kimi no na wa. (2016)
Yearning
Goosebumps, shivers and tears. This way absolutely outstanding and mind-blowing. Emotionally tugging. This had been on my viewing list for ages, but I only just got round to it. I wish I'd watched this sooner, as soon as I finished it I watched it again. I will 100% be watching it again and again, over and over.
It's one of the only films that has ever lived up to the hype.
A Long Way Down (2014)
Obvious plot with obvious ending.
Glamourising suicide by making a pack and then becoming super mega best friends yaaaaay.
Other than the awfully boring storyline, it's supposed to be set in London but it's filled with factually mistakes.
Disappointing overall, considering that I was initially interested due to the cast, but the whole storyline and script let them all down.
Skins: Pure: Part 1 (2013)
Weak and weird
Not sure why the producers insisted on having another Gen 1 character come back. I never particularly liked Cassie, I always found her quite boring. This episode's storyline could easily have replaced Cassie with LITERALLY any girl from a Gen 3 instead.
All of her actions are bizarre and completely out-of-character. With zero explanation as to why she even came back from New York.
Sweet Tooth (2021)
Exceeded Expectations
Absolutely blown away by how brilliantly created this is.
The synopsis is misleading as, before you start watching it, you'd assume it's got something to do with bestiality, but it's not.
Cinematography, script and acting are so superb.
Masterpiece.
I would like to know more about the mysterious flowers.
Rick and Morty: Rickdependence Spray (2021)
Tacky & Uncomfortable
Basically Morty messes up again. Because he got horny.
That's the whole premise.
And Summer tried to help.
Rick is weird.
Jerry is Jerry.
Beth watches.
That's it. That's the whole episode.
Recycled sex jokes and a reused plot, plus incest.
