Vozvrashchenie (2003)
Too minimalistic to convince
In itself the story is interesting: after 12 years father comes back.
But to keep interesting there have to be more than just some not so important storylines. Its amazing nowadays how much others want to see so much more in a movie than what going on in-also- this very simple story.
Again: many critics make interpretations of there own: want to see more than whats all about happening in a movie.
I get to many times the impression that when there are not really interesting film just one irs chosen to have the opportunity to give an award whatsover.
To say it very simplistic.
Gone with the Wind (1939)
Extremely bad dialogues in one of the most overrated blockbusters in filmhistory
To begin with: see my title of this review.
I never saw in my "filmlife" (about 2200 feature films I saw) such incredible bad and uninteresting and stuped dialogues: unbelievable!
What a pity for a movie with for so many with an interesting story and good filmactors/actresses........And with such beautiful compostions in pictures and soundtracks.....Also the the color-quality of the restaured movie is excellent....
How it is possible that even a critic by the BBC does not mentioned the bad side of the movie...
Years ago I spoke with a head of an drama-dept of the BBC at the I.B.C. in Amsterdam. He agreed when I asked him about the ratings given every year at the BAFTA: not what it was once...also too many times overrarting productions...
I think this movie became also famous by a hype as it is nowadays too much times....
This comforted me, also this time.....
Hope Springs (2012)
Typically american craftmanship: especially the ritm and dialogs are great!
Lets bring together a good actor (Lee Jones) and actress (Streep), give them a moving story in which people can recognise themselves: voila: you can get a good movie.
But only, finally, made by a convincing director, cameraman and editor.
You have to believe : its real, but you know its a movie, still.
The end is marvellous: so -again- convincing and moving. And: with such nice composition in pictures...Great!
Toni Erdmann (2016)
A very good example of an hype, created by some people who seems to have an interest in a film
First: I am very glad that ,finally, I read critics from many people who have really knowledge about what making a feature film is.
The film is very boring, too long, uninteresting characters, for most people the dialogs are moreover not interesting for most viewers. For example: most people will not be interested in conversations about commercial activities of CEO's.
There are some funny moments, yes.....
Really a movie to forget as soon as possible.
It made me glad that Cannes did not give any prize to this movie
Its therefor even more a shame that there was given the Prize of the international filmcritic: do the members of this "club" have also an interest to promote this film?
In Holland there are also some filmcritics who seem to have an interest to promote some bad films.....
Le fils (2002)
Not really interesting: the brothers missed this time grip on the story
The brothers tried to make an interesting story, but it was boring, too long about one person: the boy about whom anything is all about.
What sad to see a failed movie made by such outstanding filmdirectors.
It reminds me of what David Lynch made once: Blue velvet.
Afterwards he never reached this level of craftmanship again...
Fortunately after this movie they made every time a better and more interesting movie for the general serious minded arthouse admireres.
The Bridges of Madison County (1995)
This film remind us of the famous film Brief encounter (director Noel Coward)
Philips99us wrote a good review: I agree fully with his opinion.
What he noticed was just that what makes it a good film: interesting about what love can do to people in general. The dialogues, written by someone who knows his craft, are about what really matters in this film.
Technically very well made on all aspects. Special attention was given to the soundtrack with beautifull songs. You could think sometimes: were they composed especially for this movie?
Only one time I was amazed: why not a real kind of attention by the husband can be seen at the end of the movie to his wife when she (Meryl Streep) shows deep emotions in the car on the way home after seeing for the last time her love "for four days"?
Fascinating acting by Clint Eastwood, once played a cowboy in Rawhide in the sixties...
And also, as always, by Meryl Streep: what an art of acting: wonderfull!
Amantes (1991)
Lack of interesting dramatisation and stereotyped dialogs
Again I am really amazed of the reviews of other film revieuwers about this boring film...
Its not at all an interesting story, made by someone who has still much to learn
about directing a feature film.
Technically its ok, not more than that.
Again a good example that in a year (this time in 1991) that the filmfestivals could not find a better film.....

Szerelempatak (2013)
A moving documentary about love of elderly people
This documentary is one of the finest documentaries I ever saw in my life! Sure: the story interest me! For me it is always the same: if the story is not interesting (enough) I will not see it, also, because lack of time... What makes especially the documentary so nice is that there is an excellent cameraman who also succeeds to use compositions which closely are connected , so to say, with that you are watching at that very moment. Besides that: what a nice environment where it was made: makes the film also a joy to see. This I never saw before.... What amazes me most: still not to be seen on dutch television! Which reader has seen the documentary on television in his/her country? Email me and give your opinion and also what you think of my opinion of this film. Thanks in advance!
Mommy (2014)
Extremely bad feature-film
The director of this film seems does not know anything or does not want to know (even worser when so) about dramatisation. The story is very boring and uninteresting, for sure for the general public. Acting is awful, mostly "over the top"=overacting, you feel and see that the actors/actresses are acting (very bad when you got that feeling!) This film is one of the most bad films I have ever seen in my life(I am now 71) after seeing about 4400 films and of them most of all the films made by the famous filmdirectors in the world history of filmmaking, as is : Bergmann,Fellini,Kubrick Another good second very bad film is Paper soldier ( made by the son of the Russian filmdirector Herman) That this film has won so much prizes and admirers is nearly only by making a hype about a film which seems to be quite normal nowadays. It seems also because the voters in Cannes etc. cannot find another film to promote of its real values!
