A Single Woman (2008)
Ruined Project
Never trust extended family with your project. I was warned by multiple people - beyond many of our relatives, several actors, some production people, hair, makeup and wardrobe people and others. Didn't realize the director, my cousin, belonged to a cult! Learned after it was far too late that she has no ethical code to speak of. Scapegoated me, somehow tricked me into giving her my copyright and made an absolute mess of the film. Then proceeded to alienate me from my son and daughter-in-law in law and grandson. Managed to actually destroy their marriage. That's long over with, thank GOD! The play on which the film is based is indestructible. The bond between my son and me is likewise indestructible, ultimately. Lopez continues to make garbage and celebrate herself as an "award winning filmmaker." My life is long since back on a magic carpet ride. Karma always wins. 😊
Equal Means Equal (2016)
Unwatchable
Dreadful, as is everything Lopez has directed.
Good documentary requires unbiased, curious investigation. This film is an exercise in confirmation bias, at best and is an hysterical rant at worst. Not worth the price of admission even at the free screening I attended. After the showing rather than discussing the film's subject, the audience spent 45 minutes groaning over the poor craft and the blatant narcissism of the filmmaker.
It's a shame that such important material wasn't treated by someone more interested in exposing the truth than making herself the story.
Disappointing and obviously not recommended.
