Persuasion (2022)
I took it at face value
Not being a big Austen fan, I am not in a turmoil at this version. As a rom-com it works perhaps better than most. NETFLIX thank you. I would perhaps wish it again.
Reacher (2022)
Wooden delivery
It is difficult to believe that these are a seasoned director and actors. It all seems that they are reading off of a script. By comparison, I miss the previous episodes.
Best Sellers (2021)
Publisher?
Five minutes into this and I can't grasp that a vague 20 something is in charge of a publishing house. I also have problems that Caine got involved in this disaster.
The Human Solution (2021)
Everyone is over 30 forever
Everyone is over 30 forever, very odd casting. Could have done as cinema, rather than theatre. For me there is too much overacting.
Mind you, the theatre is straight out of the Scandinavian tradition.
Solos (2021)
Should I continue?
Currently watching ep 1. Eeeesh. Hathaway went to a acting school somewhere along the line. I don't need to arch this.
Xtremo (2021)
Ammunition, no problem
Handguns with no limit of ammunition. A drug dealing sidekick taken under the wing. 2 stars is generous.
Enola Holmes (2020)
Feels like it was made for television
Great sets and costuming. However, I found the acting straight out of acting school. Becomes a "young adult " movie very quickly.
The Last Word (2017)
Meh
Had some very strong moments and some very weak. A forgettable film.
Da 5 Bloods (2020)
Flawed
I don't know where to begin. Are we forgetting that the victims of the Vietnam War were the Vietnamese? They were invaded by foreign powers. This is an American tale, with good ole' boys going after the loot. And shades of Rambo and/or John Wayne , every bullet kills two of the enemy.
What year is this set in? We seem to have French leftovers of the regime still wondering about. I haven't picked up why this was shot in Thailand with only city scenes in Ho Chi Min city. What was the Vietnamese governments view of Spike Lee?
Bad Grandmas (2017)
Just awful
Gave up watching after 10 minutes. The acting and dialogue were television bad. Even with "name" actors this only added to this cess pool of a movie. I am sorry that I gave Amazon the 3.99 to rent this.
Making the Five Heartbeats (2018)
Dry as a bone
Townsend reads a book with snapshots. Could have used outtakes etc. from the movie.
Love Wedding Repeat (2020)
A train wreck
A fairly terrible movie. The reviews promised a much better film.
The Edge of Seventeen (2016)
Mentally ill passing as a coming of age
Being quirky and not fitting in is one thing, however flipping back and forth and not making a right decision when you 17 (not 14) is another thing. A Hollywood ending, where the character in 5 minutes has both feet on the ground and everything is just fine doesn't ring true.
The End of the F***ing World (2017)
Like watching a train wreck
A train wreck. But I did watch it. Perhaps I will learn to forget it.
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
Glaring and Smirking
By the 3rd season, we are down to two reactions; glaring and smirking. The producers should have well enough alone.
Men in Black: International (2019)
Spare me
Any movie with a sidekick less than 6 inches high, is going to get less than a 5 from me. This said, despite the SFX, the acting got on my nerves. Cute only goes so far.
Catch-22 (2019)
A good watch for a Memorial Day weekend.
This version is much darker than the 1970 film. Yossarian is presented as a tragic and not a comic figure.
Quaker Oaths (2016)
Thought that this was going to be a dud
However, the characters are well drawn and it takes a number of interesting turns.
Watership Down (2018)
About 3 hours too long
Stupid Rabbit. I remember the book being much better.
The Lady Vanishes (1979)
A screwball comedy
Just finished watching the 1979 and 1939 versions. Hands down the 1979 version . I believe wins. The acting sparkles and I am a great fan of Cybill Shepherd. As screwball comedies go, this is of the first water.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
Confusing and boring
Did all the people with reviews above 5 go to the same movie that I did? We seem to be thrown into a plot which never seems to explain itself. There is by far too much needless dialogue. Even the D-Box seat I was in did little to jolt me awake.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018)
Read the book
Rather disappointing. The Ashton character is a rather naive git.
