Sorcerer (1977)
Zzzzzz
Get to the point. Gave up after 25 minutes of nothing to begin the movie. People don't watch movies to have a bunch of pointless build up. People a lot of the time use movies to escape. You don't see other well reviewed movies of this time using that format. I understand a little bit of build up but not when it extends past the twenty minute mark. Apparently this tells you who the characters are but personally. I started watching this on criterion because I originally heard about it as a deep cut movie. More like deep butt. Roy Schneider stick with Jaws cuz this set up didn't work in French Connection either.
Renfield (2023)
Pleasant Surprise
Nicolas Cage won't make you rage. He's amazing as Count Dracula. The only issue that I have with the movie is the execessive . They don't show much but unnecessary. Aside from that I am definitely happy with the pace, simple store line and characters. Renfield essentially lives by what his undead master asks of him. Renfeld has his own badass powers which makes the entire film. The comedy is also amazing especially when Renfeld finds himself in an AAA like support group for people dealing with narcissists. Every scene with this group is played out perfectly. I like movies that know what they are and this is definitely one of those. A campfire classic is slightly farfetched but better than the trailer tells you.
Asteroid City (2023)
Way to Wes it will leave you depressed
This is even too Wes Anderson, for Wes Anderson. The movie has its few moments of laughter or chuckling but no more than that. A stimulating set design is all you can hope for in a film that ultimately fails to deliver on an attempt to make a clever script. If you expect anything like his classics such as The Grand Budapest Hotel or Moonrise Kingdom you will be left disappointed. A great cast you would hope that works together. Cranston as the narrator is the best character in the film. So much hope and promise. My favorite part is the rolling credits with what appears to be a dancing road runner.
