Dune: Part Two (2024)
Proper sci-fi epic!
Wow! Bigger and bigger compared to part 1, I wouldn't say necessarily better, there are a lot of things I preferred in part 1 especially the world building but part handled the action well, it's gripping. The cinematography is top notch and arguably is a step up from the first movie. Zendaya gets more screen time but you have to feel for her character Chani, she feels betrayed by Paul. Florence Pugh delivers, so does Austin butler and it was great seeing Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem side by side. Can't forget their cat and mouse game in "No country for old men" I think one of the interesting things about this movie is the relationship, how Paul reacts when he apparently sees the whole picture whatever that means and what exactly it is that has made him to become what he said he would never become. Finally the true villains in this saga are the bene gesserit, the way they move in the shadows causing entire empires to bend to their wills through deception, manipulation and coercion is incredible. It is subtle yet effective. I do wonder, is the Lisan al Gaib prophecy completely made up or is there some truth to it? Can't wait for part 3!
Entergalactic (2022)
It's basic, nothing exciting.
I see what they were trying to do on Entergalactic but it just didn't land.😐
I had to force myself to finish this, can't even count the number of times I paused and decided to do something else.
It's just another love story with a basic story, dialogue and scenes. Mostly sex, weed and vibes, the whole mr rager thing was kind of sidelined which was disappointing because I'm a comic guy and I really wanted that part fleshed out properly.
Jabari and Meadow's romance had it's cool moments and the animation looked good but that was just about it.
I saw someone in the reviews say the movie felt like a promotional video and I have to agree.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Might be the best and most beautiful movie I've ever seen.
Warning! Mild spoilers
Wow! Some things will live with you forever and this movie isn't one I'll be forgetting soon. Seeing Red and Andy embrace after reuniting is wholesome and nearly made me tear up. Andy went through so much, an innocent man giving two life sentences but he never gave up hope. Hope kept him going ( so did the little hammer and that poster lol ). In many ways Red meeting Andy in prison was the best thing that ever happened to him, he could have ended up like Brooks or worse ended back in prison. Sometimes it felt like I was on this journey with Red and Andy and seeing them win made me really happy. Throughout my two hours of viewing I thought about how I've lived and how I've related with people so far, family, friends and strangers.
That's the kind of impact this movie left on me, beautiful writing, two memorable lead characters and a wholesome story.
P. S Morgan Freeman is one of the best actors I've ever watched.
I had to say that.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Lots of potential
From the first episode you just know that there's a lot to come before the end. If the 13 dragons said to be making an appearance didn't give you reason to anticipate then maybe seeing Viserys and his court bicker or Daemon blatantly disregarding the crown should. Seriously there's no one on Viserys court that is trustworthy and the king well, he has so far proved to be a fool. Seems to be a recurring theme, first Robert Baratheon on Got and now Viserys Targaryen. Daemon and Rhaenyra absolutely steal the show and Emily D'Arcy hasn't even made an appearance yet. Daemon's rogue, arrogant, complicated, morally grey persona is fascinating and it'll be interesting watching him push for the crown. I like the fact that they went with smaller group of characters to focus on, focusing on a large group with no one main character worked well for game of thrones however they went a different direction on house of the dragon and it suits them.
Stay tuned cause we haven't even seen dragons fight yet! And they're 13 on this show! 13!
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Amazing!
First House of the dragon and now this, it's a good time to be a fan of the fantasy genre. This show is amazing, seriously what more you could you ask for? The visuals are stunning, the characters are interesting. Episode 1 takes a bit of time to fly due to introducing the characters and world building but it takes off in episode 2. This is a world you should invest in especially if you enjoyed the previous lotr sequels. Oh did I forget to mention the score! Bear mceeary handles it so well, at times it feels like youre in the show and you can feel the tension and evil that is coming. There are so many good things about this show already is the potential of more to come. Honestly there's so much to unpack with the teasing and references, the orcs!
Note: Ignore the review bombers, a fictional person's skin colour shouldn't affect you that much.
There's also a chance that the slow pace might get to you especially in episode 1 but if you ignore it and try to enjoy and understand what they're building at, you'll gradually see it pay off as more episodes release.
!Mild Spoiler Alert!
The man from the sky, is that Gandalf? Saruman or Sauron?
The Batman (2022)
The batman we've always wanted.
Months later after seeing it a couple of times this is my opinion.
The batman delivers and more! Right from the opening scene you're sucked in into this dark, gritty version of Gotham that leaves you on the edge of your seats and takes you on train ride slowly picking up the pace with every scene till it hits it's climax! The near 3 hour run time felt like a breeze. There was more Batman than Bruce Wayne and none of those fancy tea parties. This was detective Batman at his finest tackling the dark underbelly of Gotham. The Riddler is a compelling villain and falcone truly is the godfather of Gotham. Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman was perfect, Collin Farrell as The Penguin was spot on and The Batman/Jim Gordon duo similar to David Mills and William Somerset from se7en was fun to watch.
Note: This movie isn't for everyone, tbh no movie is for everyone however the batman is dark, gritty includes horror elements and is lengthy. Best to consider all this if you ever plan on watching it.
Encanto (2021)
Magical
I started encanto with little hopes of enjoying it... and the singing didn't make it better. Fast forward to the end and I'm all smiles, feeling much better. It is a magical movie, amazing plot and great characters. Only reason it's not a 10 is the singing.
Army of the Dead (2021)
A unique zombie movie with an impressive cast and great action!
Don't mind the negative reviews, it was good. Strong acting, impressive characters, a good plot, a mix of fast and slow zombies and a alpha like leader!!!. It ditches the generic zombie apocalypse central theme for a more materialistic slightly political one which makes it different and intriguing. Like any movie it had it's flaws but the good outweigh them.
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
It's perfect
It's everything i wanted from a monster movie. The fights were amazing and the cinematography was through the roof. This age long showdown between kong and Godzilla doesn't dissapoint one bit and they square up enough times to satisfy viewers. My only complaint concerns the fact that they didn't shed more light on certain things that were teased at the end of kotm or discarded them all together. However it's an excellent movie.
Aquaman (2018)
Jason momoa!
I watched it a day after it came out and after recently rewatching it I decided to write a review. Virtually everything about the movie is on point. Jason momoa made aquaman a hero fans can love and relate to.The visuals, the storyline, the acting, the humor name is breathtaking. Ocean master is an amazing villain, black manta is badass(so much potential with this guy) and I see aquaman 2 being much better than this one. Aquaman and mera's first KISS was delayed in order to tease the audience and it's one of the captivating moments in the film that would make you smile. Also Atlantis is a beautiful place.
