The Truth About Jim (2024)
The Truth About Jim Review
The subject matter of this documentary is a Sociopathic, cruel and violent man who dominated and hurt multiple generations of people through three different marriages over 4 decades. They family members themselves provide believable testimony to his cruel, sadistic and violent ways and former students collaborate on how he bullied and raped young women while is a position of authority as their teacher. For anyone who has studied sociopathic behavior, it is very evident that Jim Mordechai who is a former local football star and appears to be an upstanding citizen has a very dark and violent side to his character. The sheer number of relatives that describe him this way is too many to dismiss. From the video footage and photographs, it is also evident that there is anger and evil lurking behind the facade he presents. Whether he was a killer is less evident although there is a lot of circumstantial evidence presented that tie him to the areas and times when many murders took place. If I was a betting man, I would bet that his progression of controlling, violent behavior led him to murder and that his families instincts are right. Worth watching with an open mind.
Succession (2018)
Best TV Series Since The Sopranos
There is a lot of great television being made these days. Great actors, scripts, characters, scenery make this a golden era for Television. I had not watched any of Succession until two weeks ago and now I'm entirely caught up and enthralled by this incredible TV series. The episodes are comical at times, abhorrent at others but all the while the brilliant script writing and acting make this fast paced series something to behold. Reading reviews from people who can't get past the first episode show me that the series may not be for everyone but at the same time they don't know what they're missing. So give it a try. You likely won't be disappointed.
The Women and the Murderer (2021)
A interesting documentary about a murderer and the people who brought him to justice
Besides a look at a criminal investigation, this documentary provides a very insightful look at how the French deal with serious criminal cases and how their humanity shines through even though it so painful for all parties to do so. I don't know if this happens all the time in France but it seems a more humane and socially mature approach to dealing with criminal justice than what is practiced in North America. There is a great message and a lot to be learned here.
Suburra - La serie (2017)
Great crime series
The cinematography is amazing especially in 4K. An interesting take on crime groups in Rome involving various criminal factions, politicians and the Catholic church. Great character development and plot twists take place over three action packed seasons. Definitely worth the time to watch from beginning to end.
Line of Duty (2012)
A New Style of Cop Drama
Such a great series. So well written, acted and shot. A totally gripping drama with great character development and plots. I love the way the first three seasons have different investigations but are linked though a continuing narrative involving a supposedly resolved crime from season one. I've really developed an appreciation for the main characters acting skills.
Capone (2020)
Love Tom Hardy but ....
What a waste of a great actor and historically interesting character. Kept waiting for something interesting to take place. I guess watching a man die from syphalis isn't a great movie idea.
Who Killed Malcolm X? (2019)
Very well researched and troubling documentary
This story of the end of Malcolm's life and the forces that conspired to end it is not known by many. This well researched and well presented documentary is taken from the perspective of a man who was just three years old when the assassination occurred but has made it his life's work to find out the truth about who wanted him killed, and who committed the act. Wherever you fall on the man that Malcolm X was, you will be troubled to learn about how the government wanted him taken care of and the conspiracy of silence that still surrounds his murder today.
