Coming Home in the Dark (2021)
Good for a first film effort, on a low budget
I think you would have to read the short story to get a better understanding of this film. There are two moments in the film where one of the bad??? Guy's washes & shakes his hands dry. As if, washing away his sins. And he does not actually murder any of the victims in the film. It seems that both men were abused at the facility they lived in when they were boys. The father character, either was apart of this abuse or just stood by as it happened. To the two men, this does not seem to matter, as long as they seek revenge. One man is psychotic, while the other is disillusioned & lost. At the end, they take the father back to the abandoned facility, where the man who has not murdered anyone, finally makes his own moral statement.
Didn't mind the mumbling of the main character, it didn't matter so much, why he was doing it, in words. His action was loud enough to see.
Acting was good, visuals were great, a tense psychological thriller\horror on a low budget, that was worthy of its Sundance spot.
The Shallows (2016)
Mainly entertained for 83 minutes
The beginning had me thinking, oh no not another undernourished bikini clad actress. As for the shark & action scenes, I thought it was OK for a 17 million dollar budget. And I loved the cinematography & location (only finding out that it was Lord Howe Island after watching the Blu ray extra's) & what a beautiful beach it is. And hey, people bang on about realism in film but really, its an American action, horror, thriller film. Do people really have to tear apart a script that after all, it is there actually to entertain us, not give us a thesis on accurate shark behavior etc. And I didn't no Blake Lively before this film, but apparently she worked hard to get fit for the role & did some of her own stunts. For 83 Min's I was mostly satisfied & entertained. And I don't mind people bagging films like 'Prometheus' because of the over-inflated budget & previous success, so you would naturally expect more. This film has grossed 117 million dollars from a 17 million dollar budget, so obviously deserves credit.
