Body at Brighton Rock (2019)
Wasted time
I watched it on Hulu. WARNING: SPOILER ALERT AHEAD. Picture of a bear and described as an inexperienced park ranger must guard a body overnight.
It's low budget immediately. Her peers don't really look like ranger material so cast struggles are obvious. Late for the meeting she swaps assignments with her friend and heads out hiking to post signs. Here come the problems. Why is she listening to music? Another ranger scares her without trying. Obviously, she needs to hear a bear and mountain lion approaching in a high risk area. She's supposed to be a ranger! Finds a body and gets scolded for moving it to check on him. Gets scolded for checking his campsite. Sleeps near body instead of in tent nearby. What was the burlap sack of blood in the tree? Fyi, branches don't look like a person walking around the tent either. Meets a man who creeps her out in the middle of nowhere and then never concerns herself with getting his name, his campsite location, or if he'll hurt her. He's gone from her mind. But not the dead body, who she hallucinates about randomly and sprays her pepper spray at nothing. Falls rock climbing a place she shouldn't be climbing. Gets slow motion attacked by a grizzly. And we find out the guy was his ghost because he had a phone just like the corpse's and the knife was there. His attack on her was a warning about the bear? Wth?
72 Dangerous Animals: Latin America (2017)
Decent Nature Series That Educates
I've learned a lot about wildlife in other areas of the world. I don't always agree with their rankings, but the rankings aren't the point. The point is just seeing the different wildlife in the area and getting a snippet of that specific animal or insect in under an hour (seems most episodes are in the upper 40 minute range).
Looking at other reviews on this I'd have to say that maybe animal activists shouldn't watch this type of program, or basically any nature documentary on Discovery, Animal Planet, etc., as none of them are really designed to your agenda. I applaud the program for simply telling why people should stay away from dangerous animals. But I would like to point out that there have been several examples in the series where they play advocate to animal rights causes and discuss abuse or endangered aspects of animals. I'd also point out that no one on the series advocates harming any of the animals, even those who have been attacked.
Once Upon a Time (2011)
OUAT fizzles out
SPOILER ALERT: This series started out great. But each season has gotten worse. Each season has weirdly, catered more toward kids in special effects and story lines, while keeping adult themes present (like the romance angles). Season 1 was original and fun. Unlike others, I didn't mind the introduction of new season themes like TWOO, Frozen, King Arthur, and Hades. But the constant flashbacks and forwards are a stumbling process to say the least.
The CGI got out of control as well. I liked the idea of Regina controlling hearts as cheesy as it looked. But then everyone was yanking hearts. Why do that? Why take a theme one season and use it like crazy? So we get that dream catchers have powers. But then it is a major plot hold. Everyone is stealing memories with a dream catcher (like the hearts) to fumble through the increasingly weak plots and character development.
Speaking of characters: why can't the core have more development instead of constantly introducing new cast members? Some new ones are fine, if we are introduced to Frozen it makes sense to get Frozen characters. But do we need the odd bailouts like Mulan, Brave, etc. in the middle of it all? Do we need Hook's brother and their ridiculous backstory to move things forward? Do we have to go to a different world EVERY season?
What started out as an 8-10 scale show has fallen to a 1-3 rating overall. On the upside, Gold/Rumple holds the show up and is easily the best character.
