RRR (Rise Roar Revolt) (2022)
Top entertainment. I had a blast
Had this on my list for a while. A rainy Saturday afternoon gave me ample time to watch it. And it did not disappoint. Don't expect a philosophical movie containing THE MESSAGE, but an over the top action packed movie about friendship and loyalty.
The two main characters are outstanding and have good chemistry. Ram and Bheem are more superheroes than revolutionaries and the English are one-dimensional baddies, but who cares? It is not a movie of nuance, but one of fun, action and of course song & dance.
If you want something to please your brain watch Banshees of Inisherin (thoroughly recommended) if you want to be light hearted entertained for 3 hours nonstop, watch RRR.
Shantaram (2022)
True enough to the source material
I love the book! So I eagerly waited and dreaded the series. First of all the casting for Prabhu (especially), Karla and Khader Khan is spot on.
Even as a non-native English speaker Charlie's accent just sounds weird to me(is he from Birmingham or something?). The scenery, music and overall vibe is good (at least what I imagine Bombay would feel like).
To me it seems they stayed as close to the source material as possible in an adaptation.
Not sure if this is season 1 or the whole book in 1 season, but the stage is now set with all the characters for the story to really turn it up. Looking forward to episode 4.
Formula 1: Drive to Survive: Tipping Point (2022)
The clear bias made it all the more satisfying ...
... knowing that Lewis lost in the end. Nowhere was mentioned that Lewis was 100% causing the crash and got a lame ass penalty. It was clearly his "mistake" (I never bought that a talented and experienced driver like Lewis didn't know what he was doing). And poor poor Lewis for being bullied when he was young and now says "no more" 😂. This episode is a joke but Max had the last laugh. How does the narrative work for you woke Netflix now the bully won in the end?
Mr. Robot: Hello, Elliot (2019)
Ne me quitte pas
A brilliant series with an ending that makes you feel happy, melancholic and satisfied.
Storyline, cinematography, score and acting was all top notch. For me up there with my favs: Sopranos, Peaky Blinders and Breaking Bad.
Love how a US series uses one of the most beautiful songs (from Belgium) ever, not sure how well known it is in the US.
The Blacklist: Rassvet (2019)
Great episode - But me thinks it's a Red Herring (sorry I couldn't resist 😬)
Excellent episode one of the best in the series that spins us in yet another way. Good acting and an engaging flashbackstory on the origin of Red. However.....
I don't buy it that Ilya took his place. In one of the earlier episodes we see Red with heavy burn scars while he was changing clothes. I can't Imagine that Ilya asked Dr. Köhler to add those as well. As someone else wrote in the review Red has flashbacks of the burning house. I just love these kind of twists. Keep 'em coming!
