Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
People are being disingenuous
I'm not going to go into great detail on this one. This is mostly to off set the flood of 10/10 reviews I have seen. It's absolutely not perfect. Major plot holes that could have been avoided. Forced humor. Character motivations that change on a whim. Introduction of meaningless characters. Bad writing.
The pros? Good special effects as always in these films. Acting is decent. But people really need to wake up. It's no 10. But it's also not a "1 because I couldn't give it a zero". Both sides are misguided. This film has major problems, and is a reflection of the culture and society around it.
Black Christmas (2019)
Kind of insulting
Not a well written movie. The acting from the cast is not performed well. The editing and writing is amateur. Major plot holes in the film. Typical horror movie "why did/didn't she do this or that" in the film. It's humorous at parts you know should be serious. The odd, out of place bashing of the male gender is shoved down the audience's throat from the very beginning. It's almost as if that one angry feminist in your class was given a movie budget with 3 days to write a script. Cringe scene after cringe scene. Laughably predictable. We were practically narrating what would unfold on screen as it happened.
Almost zero redeeming parts. At least the film doesn't go on too long. Don't waste your time on this one. I'm almost upset that my friends and I spent money on this film.
Bill Burr: Paper Tiger (2019)
"tOo mUCh LiKE a pOdCASt"
I'm sure you've seen the other reviews. They are gonna compare it to a podcast. It's bad analogy because of how obvious it is. All comedians have podcasts. But they also have specials. The difference is the audience.
It's Burr at his best, so if you like him, you'll love this. Good pacing and buildups. Jokes land almost every time. I was smiling the entire hour. We need more comedians like this, who are not afraid to go against the culture.
Escape Room (2019)
It's scary that some people are giving this 10/10
Don't get me wrong, the people who are saying "1 star, it's visual vomit" are being dramatic. But this movie is not good. It's beginning and half way point are somewhat decent, plot wise I mean. Acting and visual effects are lacking in many areas. But the second half until the end is horribly executed. The fact that it sequel baits you hard at the end is also a little insulting. Save your money. Do a real escape room instead.
