The Transformers: The Movie (1986)
A milestone of an animated sci-fi classic.
There are no words to describe how awesome this movie is. Me and my brother have grown up with the Transformers toys, the Michael Bay movies and the cartoons and we remember watching the movie for the first time around in either 2006 or 2007, when the first live-action Transformers movie was released. Nonetheless, this is the first animated Transformers movie from 1986, which was 30 years ago.
One of the things we love about this movie is the stellar voice cast, especially for the great Orson Welles in his last film before his death in 1985 (rest in peace) and Leonard Nimoy as the almighty Galvatron, who is, by far, the best performance of his career since he was Spock in "Star Trek".
Probably the emotional scene in the whole movie is when Optimus Prime dies earlier in the movie, which had my brother in tears just by watching it the first time. And here's the best part: the soundtrack. The soundtrack was phenomenal. Lion's rendition of the Transformers theme song, Stan Bush's "The Touch' and Weird Al's "Dare to be Stupid" are all great music we can listen to.
Overall, Transformers is a great film, and if you haven't seen it, shame on you because me and my brother highly recommends it to anyone who is a Transformers fan like us or just a fan of animation like I am.
I would give this a 10 out of 10, but since this is more than meets the eye, I'm giving this a 11 out of 10. To quote Nick Fury, "'Nuff Said!"
Trail of the Pink Panther (1982)
Now, don't be mad at me, because, in my opinion, I actually loved this movie.
You've probably read my "Pink Panther" reboot review, but I love the Pink Panther movies and cartoons. I grew up with them. And when I heard about "Trail of the Pink Panther" getting terrible reviews, I was like, "OK, I'm surprised, but I haven't seen the movie yet." I actually thought that to myself one day before I watched it.
During the title sequence (although it was funny), I just quietly read this title: "To Peter. The One and Only Inspector Clouseau". When I saw it, I was like, "Wait a second, Peter Sellers have died?! What's going on in it?!" Then I then noticed something, a montage of Sellers as Clouseau. People were like, "Are you serious?!", but for me, I basically just let my laughs all out. I don't care what everyone says, but I enjoyed "Trail of the Pink Panther" a lot. It was basically a tribute to Sellers, which Blake Edwards did a good job with.
So, overall, this is basically the king of guilty pleasures. Watch the movie. It's hysterical and is definitely a great tribute to Sellers. So I am giving it a 10 out of 10.
Bring Me the Head of Charlie Brown (1986)
My review of "Bring Me the Head of Charlie Brown"
Wow. Wow! What can I say about it? It's just a "Peanuts" cartoon with a twist! Out of all the parodies I've seen, this is the best one out there. The only thing that made me skeptical was that Jim Reardon was one of the people involved with "The Simpsons" before I even watched it.
After I watched it, I was like "Whoa! That was so brutal!" I've watched it a bunch of times it actually influenced me to write an animated short that spoofs "Zootopia".
Anyway, before I start ranting about the cartoon, let me just make this clear: I absolutely love this cartoon. It's so violent and so hilarious I don't even know what's going on yet until the climax. That was hysterical. This pays tribute to Sam Peckinpah who directed "The Wild Bunch" and other movies he directed.
Not only does this cartoon parodies the "Peanuts" specials, it also spoofs "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia", "Commando", "Rambo" and more in particular. Come on, it's Charlie Brown going on a rampage on the Peanuts gang, and you know, I'm a huge Peanuts fan.
One of my favorite part in the entire thing is the climax. The first time I saw it, I was just not only blown away, but also laugh-out-loud to the max! And my favorite quote? "Happiness is a warm uzi!"
So, overall, if you're busy looking for the perfect satire of a movie to watch, this is the best example. So I'm going to give this a 10 out of 10.
Antz (1998)
My review of "Antz" (1998)
What do you get when you have an all-star cast (Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Gene Hackman, etc.), an original concept by DreamWorks Animation and some of the funniest moments in film history? If you say "Antz", you are positively correct. "Antz" is one of the movies I actually grew up with. When I was real young, I remember having the VHS of the film and I used to watch it every single time.
Now, 16 years later, "Antz" is still part of my childhood, behind "Peanuts" and "Looney Tunes". I still love this movie from this day forward, besides Pixar's "A Bug's Life", which that movie and "Antz" are compared back in the day.
That lead into a feud between DreamWorks and Pixar. No joke. Anyways, this movie is outstanding and funny in every single way. My brother hasn't seen it, but we have seen it just last night.
Overall, I'm giving "Antz" a 10 out of 10. It deserved it.
The Pink Panther (2006)
My review of the 2006 reboot "The Pink Panther".
First of all, let me just start be saying that I absolutely love the "Pink Panther" movies. I love every single one of them (except for "Son of the Pink Panther" which was...ugh). The only ones I haven't seen are "A Shot in the Dark", "Inspector Clouseau" , "Revenge of the Pink Panther" and "The Return of the Pink Panther" I will say, "The Pink Panther Strikes Again" is my favorite out of all of them. Peter Sellers is perhaps my favorite Clouseau out of all of them.
Here's one thing I can say about the Steve Martin version: funny. I'll say it again, it's funny as heck. I enjoyed the movie all together. My brother hates Peter Sellers' Clouseau in the originals but he likes Steve Martin's version. To all those critics who hate this movie: Shut. Up. About. This. Movie.
It's hilarious and completely stays true to the originals. Overall, "The Pink Panther" is a hilarious comedy. If you haven't seen it, go check it out. It's worth watching, in my opinion. So I'm going to give this movie a 10/10.
Seriously, go watch it. That's all I can say.
