Palm Springs (2020)
Root For Them?
I very rarely rate a movie related to time travel below a 7. However, this one bugged me too many times to be able to rate it higher. You're supposed to root for the main characters to get together, but who would wish that on the man? Lol. The man is nice and thoughtful, while the woman is just a bad person, is stubborn, treats him badly, etc.... Who would root for them together?
The Clovehitch Killer (2018)
Likethe Other Review Says...
The person who wrote the "Closure For Whom?" review said exactly what I was thinking. I was all prepared to give this an 8 until the ending... then knocked it down to a 7. Not that you must always get whatever ending you would prefer, but I was just so unhappy with it and also it was especially unfair to a particular character in it and that character didn't seem to care... Just being vague where I don't have to mark as spoilers.
Either way, I consider a 7 a great movie and I thought the acting was great, the story was great, etc...
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
Overrated
The effects were good for its time and the beginning of the movie was making me think I'd like it a lot. However, then it just starts dragging on and a big percentage of the movie is people making their way to a place and showing off the effects.
Splinter (2008)
Entertaining, but...
The movie was overall entertaining with pretty good acting and suspense, but some of the logic was pretty ridiculous. Something that seeks based on heat is REALLY going to be attracted to someone who is 1 or 2 degrees above the outside temperature AND with him being inside a car? That's some mighty good heat sending to be able to recognize that tiny difference in temperature surrounded by a car.
The Man from Earth (2007)
Hilarious Ratings
While watching this movie, I kept wondering how anyone could rate such a bad movie so highly. Then half way through, it finally became clear. The anti-religion rhetoric. lol.
There's no way any legitimate critic would rate this movie as good at all. The acting was some of the worst I have ever seen and it came off as some random non-actors sitting around talking awkwardly. And that's the whole movie... awkward acting, repetitive theme that religion is "hogwash", and throw in a climate change line, as well. I would rate it lower, but I somehow made it through the whole movie and I like to not rate anything a 1 or 2 if I can make it through it, regardless of how amateurish it was. :)
The Crazies (2010)
Decent At Best
One of those movies where I am confused how so many give it good reviews. I was tempted to give it a 6, but I am tired of doing that for movies like this. It's just like every movie where people are running from something. Just about constantly repetitive action and running. It felt like it was 2 and 1/2 hours, despite being barely more than 1 and a 1/2. If there were no other movies like it then I'd understand some of the good scores...
Quantum Leap: Mirror Image - August 8, 1953 (1993)
Letdown Finale
Another episode that I can't understand having such a high rating.
The setting was about as boring as there could be. Almost the whole show was him asking the same questions over and over in a boring tavern.
Then the end was rushed and not satisfying. Sam never returning home was a bad way to end the series... Helping Al out was good, but about everything else was bad in this episode. Most of season 5 was worse than the others because they kept trying to get all gimmicky
Quantum Leap: Trilogy: Part 3 - July 28, 1978 (1992)
Swiss Cheese
Anyone else watching these getting tired of them saying "swiss cheese" in so many episodes? Someone should make a game where they guess how long it will be before the next time it's said. lol.
Anyway, as for this episode and the trilogy... the trilogy overall I would give as 7 or 8 to, but this episode was only ok and I personally was wishing Sam would reveal some truths to Abigail about his situation.
Quantum Leap: The Leap Back - June 15, 1945 (1991)
Very Bad Episode
I like this show a lot and had watched most episodes back when they first aired, but I forgot some of the changes that took place starting with this episode.
First off, Al kept referring to Ziggy as a "he" up until now, if I am not mistaken. But now it's magically a female voice.
Second, Ziggy is very annoying.
Third, I forgot that they have her voice over the events in the past.... it distracts from the episode.
It's a very annoying episode and I can't believe it's rated so highly. I don't remember much about the rest of season 4 and 5, so I hope the rest of the episodes aren't this way. Such a shame because the third season as great.
Shocker (1989)
Entertaining... with some annoyances
Overall, it was a fun movie to watch and I love 80s movies. The concept as quite different than other horror movies. However, a few things wee annoying or ridiculous... First off, people would shoot and shoot and shoot without hitting the main guy, but would magically shoot other people on the first try. lol. Secondly, many times a character would just randomly say something in a harsh, bossy tone, despite the other characters not having done anything to deserve it. Lastly, the ending got flat ridiculous. They tried to get too creative with ideas and ended up with some nonsense ones.
That all said, I liked it and rated it better than Cast Away, which I saw the day before and was rated far higher on here...
Time Freak (2018)
Better Than The Rating
This was a very good movie. Good acting by the main three characters and a fun time travel movie. The ending was sort of abrupt, but I still overall liked it. It's one of those movies with a good "feel" to it. I've seen far worse movies, which had far higher average ratings. I do love most time travel movies, though. :)
The Isle (2018)
Mostly Boring Until The End
I was torn between rating this a 5 or 6. I barely decided on a 6... for now. Almost the whole movie was slow and boring (boring dialogue and events) and I was set on rating it a 5, but when the movie was mighty close to over, the explanations made for a good story of what had happened... So I'd probably never watch it again, but at least it left an interesting story in my mind, albeit not presented well.
House of Games (1987)
Could Have Been Better
The movie was overall entertaining, but it had some issues holding it back. I assume the characters talking very unnaturally (about like robots) was an intentional style choice, but it came off the same as very bad acting would. In other words, they may have been doing it intentionally, but it still sounded like bad acting would sound. And that also made one of the biggest supposed twists so obviously coming that it was too unbelievable that it could have happened. Basically the way of speaking and lack of emotion after some things happened made it obvious what was going on. I saw everything coming other than one twist of sorts.
Knives Out (2019)
Good, but not an 8+
The movie had a little good humor and some good acting, but also had some issues. First of all, there was only good character development for a couple characters and the rest didn't really do much of anything, such as Jamie Lee Curtis' character. Second off, the type of humor is mostly similar to Wes Anderson movies, where you think to yourself "hmm that was funny", but rarely laugh, which explains why it's rated so high... people thinking they got the humor that others didn't, which isn't the case.
At least it had a few funny scenes, though, and some fairly clever parts and also very good acting. I was originally falling asleep during it and thinking it deserved 6, but then got more awake and re-watched part of it and bumped it up to a 7. :)
Stranger Things: Chapter Eight: The Battle of Starcourt (2019)
Seasonn is overall very good, but a lot of annoyances as well...
I overall liked the feel of most of the season and the interactions between most characters. I even liked that they split them up into groups rather than just having them all together concentrating on one plotline. I don't even have a problem with much of the plot.
However...
1. it was kind of odd character development to have Steve finally say he likes Robin and then she's gay.
2. The sheriff character was very, very, very unlikeable (and mostly was in season 2) AND almost every scene with the adults was annoying.
3. Even those I could be ok with, but I just don't like how the final episode ended. They go through all of that and have a supposedly mostly happy ending, only to then show practically half the characters moving away??? People watch the show for their adventures in a small town, not for the drama of friends moving off. I guess they'll all come together in Russia next season.... which won't be the same.
Really I liked most scenes, though, and wish it had more episodes and more of them at their summer jobs and solving problems and whatnot.
