I used to live in an eighty procent Italian neighbourhood in Belgium so needless to say I experienced first hand how Italians live, eat and communicate. It's all a bit overly dramatic, certainly when they talk, either with words or gestures. But in all fairness their cuisine is the best, well that's only my opinion. In Nonnas you get a lot of talking about food and showing all these ingredients made me hungry for the entire movie. As for the story itself, even if it is categorized as a comedy, I didn't think it was that funny. They tried though but to me it's just a lighthearted drama, nothing else. Good cast, even if they were not all Italian, they could pass for one. The acting was good, the story okay, just good enough to watch once but slightly overrated though.
Drama, music, romance... when I saw the categories for this movie I wasn't too certain about it as those are absolutely not my favourite genres of movies but I like a good comedy and since the ratings were pretty high for The Ballad Of Wallis Island I gave it a shot. A shot I don't regret as it was a good lighthearted funny movie. Tim Key did a really great job playing his eccentric character, a real pleasure to watch. The rest of the small cast was good as well. As for the music, as usual I would say, it's not really my thing but it was bearable, certainly not cringing. I have a totally different taste of music, one that is almost never in movies. That said, this movie is a good watch.
Dramas are not really my favourite genre of movies but sci-fi is certainly one of my favourites. In The Assessment you get a mixture of both. A future where nobody is allowed to make kids anymore, only if they pass a test they will be allowed a child but not of their own. It sounds surreal but then again maybe not, as we are already suffering of overpopulation although some leaders can't seem to understand that and are even offering money to people to make more humans. Needless to say what idiot came up with that idea... It's the orange goblin... The movie has a very small cast, all good performances though. Seeing an adult acting like a spoiled brat is sometimes cringing to watch which was why I was going to score it a six but the ending was quite good and surprising which made me change my mind and score it a seven.
