The Boogeyman (2023)
Why just why
The first 20 minutes or so we both were scared. I even had goosebumps. We don't know the King story so we had no expectations. It started off really well and then they made the same mistakes that many directors make... the movie got ruined for us because of this. The Boogeyman lives in the dark - none ever turns on the light despite knowing this. The girl is scared of the dark - and happily plays on the dark with the tv running. Boogeyman kills from what I understand - just not the girls. Daddy is absent - why just why. Girl is scared in bed - how about screaming for sis and dad? Boogeyman lives longer than mankind and apparently couldn't be killed - so why now? It had potential. And it sucked. 5 stars for the goosebumps in the first 20 min.
Harry & Meghan: The Complete Story (2022)
Don't get the point of this documentary
I've watched the first episode and i won't watch the rest. We get a lot of Diana, again, ans a lot of complaining, again, and lots and lots of comments on how difficult life as a millionaire is. This is not the "whole truth", this is trashing you family.
They want to be out of the public eye? Then why stay in it?
This documentary comes across as very staged, i seems perfectly arranged with very "pro Meghan and Harry" interviewees.
And what is this "H" and "Haz" naming? First i thought we talk about heroine but it's Meghan's nickname for harry - okayyyyy. What was the purpose of including this? Looking more down to earth?
I give 2 stars for production. It's very good and lots of effort was put to create this. Sadly the content deserves 0 stars.
House of the Dragon: The Heirs of the Dragon (2022)
Very nice first episode
I liked this more than I feel i should after what happened with GoT. I don't want to get too attached and then get disappointed again. But this first episode is exactly why I fell in love with GoT. I really hope that the director is as invested in this show as the cast and the fans are.
I'm already looking forward to e2.
Cinderella (2015)
Love love love it
I would rate this movie higher than 10 if I could. It has become my absolute favorite movie. It's beautifully shot, the music is superb and the actors do a great job. Even the narrator's voice matches the atmosphere of the movie. It's what I would call the perfect classic (!!!!!!!) Disney fairytale.
However, if you look for a modern, independent Cinderella that tells the prince goodbye for whatever reason, this movie is not for you. This is made for people who never grew old of the old classic fairytales of good vs. Evil where good always wins and gets the prince and lives happily ever after.
11/10.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
A must watch for fans of the potter universe
We just left the cinema and what can I say: I loved every second of it. The acting was brilliant, the plot was convincing, the music and the animations were superb. Can't wait for #4!
The Wretched (2019)
Turned it off
I give it 4 stars because the visuals and the acting were quite alright. However, i was unhappy about the story, particularly the fact that some things just remained "unnoticed" by the characters!? Maybe I missed some essential parts (i did not fall asleep though) and i know that "forgetting" played a role in this movie but i just can't watch illogical movies (where it was obviously not about forgetting) so we turned it off after 45min because the atmosphere poofed.
The Big Bang Theory (2007)
My absolute favorite tv show
What to say, i love this show so much, i am rewatching it for the 5th or 6th time. It has so many laughing out loud moments, it's relatable, the characters are exceptional and the last episode makes me cry everytime. My favorite characters are Bernadette and Sheldon, but i truly love each one of them. 10/10.
Vivarium (2019)
Genuinely hated it - don't waste your time.
I don't usually rate 1 star, i usually just turn off a movie when I don't like it and i move on. However, with this one, the husband wanted to know the ending.. so we kept watching and we hated every minute of it. In the first half, we wanted the kid to die a most painful death. The second half was tediously boring. And the end felt unsatisfactory. Overall, it was one of the worst films I've ever watched, it was the worst horror movie i ever watched.
Kitz (2021)
Liked it a lot
My partner and i binge watched this after release because we had to know how it ends. And it ended in a way that was not expected. We also liked the scenery, the characters were interesting and we are hoping for a season 2. I give it 9 out of 10 for all this.
Little Women (2019)
Didn't make me feel anything
I admit that I am biased because I loved the book, the cartoon version and the 1994 movie version. And these are the reason why this movie was just not for me. I didn't like that the age of the sisters didn't seem to matter. Emma Watson confused me so much as Meg because she never looked the oldest. Beth seemed to be non-existent. Amy i just couldn't grasp. And Jo, while the performance was great, i missed the passion of Winona Ryder every second. I give it a 5 because, while the above mentioned is personal preference, the back and forth jumping was just aannoying and it didn't help the movie at all.
Sex/Life (2021)
Great show
I don't get all the hate comments and 1* reviews. I liked the cast a lot and the story too. I could relate. I know how Billie felt. And i felt the chemistry and attraction between Billie and Brad when I watched the show. And from the start i could tell (from my own personal experience) why both will never work out even if they would get together again (don't know if they will or not, haven't finished the show yet). This is a show about the one that got away and at the same time it's about toxic relationships and how hard it is to leave these people behind. It's also about people who believe their partner will change, this time. It's actually a tragedy if you look past the surface. And the most tragic character is Billie.
Heilstätten (2018)
Ignore the negative reviews
Being from Germany i am happy to see that we are making horror movies as well. That being said, German movies are different from other, for example american horror movies. The acting is not poor like some other reviews criticized. In contrary it's very good, the actors depict German influencers very well (yes, the influencers here are really LIKE THIS). I liked the story and the creepy atmosphere. Hope this movie will receive better ratings in the future. An overall 4/10 is not what it deserves.
Titanic (1997)
Don't get the low rating
The low rating makes no sense to me at all... This movie is magnificent, so well made, the acting is superb. Anything below 9 doesn't do it any justice.
The Pyramid (2014)
Horror went wrong
It's bad when you and your partner are starting to joke about the unfortunate events that take place in this movie while you're still watching it... The stupidity of the characters, the complete lack of empathy or care for each other (shown in what they did or did not do while one of them got hurt, pit scene anyone?!)... That was really astonishing.
Still Alice (2014)
So heartbreaking
Rated it 10/10 because it made me cry, I hurt as much as alice did. Outstanding movie. Julianne Moore definitely deserved that Oscar.
Indian Matchmaking (2020)
If you don't judge other cultures you will enjoy this show.
I really liked this show a lot and I do want every single one of the singles to find love and marriage. They are all special, it's an entirely different culture to mine (western European) but I loved to learn about this. It's entertaining and heart-warming. 10/10
Le Bazar de la Charité (2019)
Watch it!
It got better with every episode, the final scene left me in tears. Loved this show, and although I know it's a mini series that ended with episode 8, I would love a second season just to find out how my now beloved characters will go on with their lives.
The Witcher (2019)
This is not game of thrones!
This show is awesome, the cast, the atmosphere, the music, the dialogues. I've watched game of thrones and this show is entirely different. It's darker.
Sure, it's a fantasy series, it contains magical creatures, and God forbid the Witcher is wearing a wearing necklace and someone jumped out of the window in episode 1. And of course, there's lots of sex and nudity. But that doesn't make the show a game of thrones fake.
Be open minded, people, and you will watch the best show of 2019. Much better than got this year.
The Princess Switch (2018)
Loved it
Maybe it's predictable, maybe it's cheesy, maybe it's what has been done a dozen times before. But I still loved it. It's a great Christmas story and just wonderful for a Saturday afternoon. 10 of 10
Fack ju Göhte (2013)
Loved it
I am German but I usually don't watch German movies. However, I really love Fack ju Göthe. It's a clever and funny movie about how German teenagers of the lower social classes are often perceived by Germans. It plays with all the stereotypes we Germans have about teenagers whose parents are immigrants, on welfare, alcoholics etc. Not only the language used but also the names of the characters portray this very well - both are a reflection of German reality, not made-up for entertainment. I laughed tears throughout the whole movie but I also cried, and then I laughed and cried at the same time. Would watch it over and over again. 10/10
