History of the World: Part II (2023)
Ignore the haters, I'm laughing to the bank! 😂🤣😁⭐⭐⭐
Yes, I'm a HUGE Mel Brooks fan!
Yes, some of the skits land a little flat (The Shirley skit doesn't fit..)
BUT, this show is very entertaining! Everyone needs to come off their high horse, and enjoy some low brow, slapstick, raunchy comedy!
Nick Kroll does a lot of heavy lifting in this show, and he does a fantastic job! Lots of calls back to shows/movies, these skits are over the top, AND THAT'S THE POINT. I know comedy has taken a hit the past 5 years, but it's time people relax, take a look ourselves, and laugh!
Really enjoyed the Jesus Christ skits, perfect simile of the Curb your Enthusiasm. I'm enjoying the Civil war skit. The Russian Revolution was pretty funny. I think you need to do two things. One, remember this is Mel Brooks, his comedy is always in your face, so let it be and enjoy it. And two, you got to know your references and pop culture, or some callbacks/jokes won't land. That's the name of the game.
Is it as good as part I, no, but I'm enjoying the insanity of it all, and so should you!
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Watch it, but know there will be flaws.
So, Obi-Wan and Darth Vader/Anakin a fantastic in this show. And I emphasize SHOW because somehow with all the technology and money Disney has (And all the amazing work they did on the Mandalorian to make everything looks amazing) this show feels like a show, not like a movie at times. There are some boring set pieces, cheap looking aliens and corners cut...
Let's get the bad out of the way. Little Leia is annoying and doesn't listen... Like to the point of prolonging the plot just for the sake of filling in run time. Reva is not believable. She always looks like she wants people to believe that she's a bad guy, but it comes of timid and fake. Her whole ark is unnecessary. This show needed to focus more on Obi-wan returning to the force, but instead it's about everyone else. Plenty of boring/bad dialogue and acting. And last, we know that Obi-wan and Vader can't die. So, theyor fights can't have any edge you want in a duel, because neither one will die. So, since they can't die, this show makes up dumb ways for them to break it up before anyone dies...
Okay, the good! Ewan and Hayden haven't lost a beat. They are amazing. Their performances hold this crazy show together. The Organas and Luke's Aunt and Uncle do a great job as well. (It's like all the actors who were in a Star Wars movie understand and do a great job acting in these films/shows...) Even though the Asian Inquisitor and the Grand Inquisitor don't do much, I enjoy their acting.
So, it's a flawed show with lots of pointless fillers and bad acting from some and boring writing, the people you came to see do a fantastic job. ✨✨✨
Fargo (2014)
Oh boy, what a doozy!
Fargo is one of my favorite television shows of all time. Being of a younger generation, my parents would occasionally quote the original movie FARGO when talking about their favorite movies. The only thing I knew about the movie was that poster of the murdered cop lying in the snow. So when I heard it was being turned into a show, I took the opportunity to watch the season premier. I was instantly hooked. I was intrigued. I was horrified. I knew I was going to be in for an emotional, crazy ride.
I don't like to write reviews that are all positive, but I really don't have anything bad to say about this show. Each episode is a 50 minute movie the progresses the plot. Even with 1 or 2 slower episodes, every episode is crucial for the finale. The character development is amazing. The acting and writing is spot on. The music works perfectly to keep you on your seat. Billy Bob Thornton just became one of my new favorite actors. FARGO keeps the drama and thrills to the very end. You don't watch FARGO, you are apart of it.
If you are looking for a show that is deep, thought provoking, and thrilling, FARGO is the show. It will make you think about society and crime. It does not spoon feed you. You have to make the decision. What if they are wrong, and you are right?
Interstellar (2014)
A space odyssey of immense power
Lets wrap up this space odyssey in one word: Powerful. I was able to view this movie on opening night and I completely enjoyed it. I would suggest to viewers to watch 2001 A Space Odyssey before viewing this movie. Running at 2 hours 40 minutes, you hardly feel time go by. Every moment in this movie grabs you and doesn't let go. The cinematography was beautifully done. The angles make you very claustrophobic which works perfectly for the space scenes. The ending is classic Nolan film. I'm not going to spoil it, but for me it cleans things up to fast. But I don't think it distracts from the overall experience. Go see Interstellar, and be prepared for a powerful ride.
