Room (2015)
But you are Ma
Imagine you spend your first five years of life in a small room, you don't know about outside world, you think that the room is the whole world. What do you do when you get out into real world?
Room is obviously the one of the most touching and inspiring drama I have ever watched. It is a story of five years old Jack and his Mother, Ma who live together in a room. Young actor Jacob Tremblay played the role of Jack. He was tremendous, he acted like everything a five years would do. He is happy kid, with lots of interests, loves his Ma and gets angry sometimes. His Mother told him room is the world and there is no outside when he was young. When he became five, she revealed and tried to convince him about the existence of world.
Jack got out and amazed by the outside world. He became attached to his Grandma, her friend and their dog. But his mother needed some time to adjust with all the changes. Actress Brie Larson did so great in portraying Ma character that she won an Oscar award for her role. She is the most deserving candidate, the emotion and attachment she showed for her son was impressed.
The direction, story-lines and acting of all the casts is great, so is the background music and cinematography. A must watch movie for everyone.
Westworld (2016)
You are not real
I had so my expectations from this series, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy actually fulfill it. The storyline is amazing, sound score is classic, the aesthetic scenic beauty of Westworld and acting of all the casts remains so real.
Westworld is a theme park where hosts are androids who do not have ability to kill something alive, not even a fly. And there are newcomer guests who come to the Westworld by a train. They can enjoy there by riding horses, killing hosts by guns, visiting to whores and exploring. They pay for coming and they can always come back.
Everyday, hosts are reboot automatically and they forget everything what happened earlier when they wake up in the morning. They don't realize that they are not real. However, problems start to occur when creators install a new software to make the hosts more real, more showing human emotion. In first two episodes, some hosts were acting and remembering small memories which effect their normal daily activities. We can see that Maeve Millay a beautiful madam remembered her past life, her daughter and how a man in black killed them. She thought she was dreaming, so she tried to wake up and revealed something unexpected.
Dolores Abernathy seems to be like the most important host in this fantasy world. Actress Evan Rachel Wood did a great job in creating this character. Her expression, beauty, calm voice and sweetness helps to forget that she is not real. Her father told her something in the ear which effect her memory and activities. She killed a fly in first episode, she told something to Madam Millay which also had serious effect on her.
Each episode is giving us new information from which we can learn more about Westworld. Eagerly waiting to see what comes next. What is the role of the man in black, why the hosts are acting weird, will the hosts be able to protect themselves from the guests, what is in the deep level? Hope to learn about more in upcoming episodes.
Outlander: Faith (2016)
one of the best episodes so far
First season was very promising; casting was great, storyline was magnificent, Scottish highlands added the beauty of the series. To me, some early episodes of season 2 seems a little bit boring. But the series has turned into its track from this episode.
It is a very touching and emotional episode. It starts with Claire and her daughter in Boston in 1954, another timeline. But then it goes back to 1744 when Claire lost her baby, her husband Jamie was in prison, she had to make hard choice to release him from there. Actress Caitriona Balfe who portraits as Claire deserves many nominations for her role. Her grief, her conversation with Jamie about her stillborn daughter made me cry.
And finally they are going back to their home: Scotland. I don't like the politics and artificial beauty of France. Hopping to have another good season.
Marco Polo (2014)
Ignore the negative comments, it is enjoyable
Marco Polo is a great, promising and enjoyable show. This contents a lot of twists, fighting, violence and politics. I was really impressed by the scenic beauty of locations. The huge budget has been spent to develop the show which can clearly be understood.
Actor Benedict Wong portrayed as the great Mongol king Kublai Khan, this acting was marvelous. The title hero Marco Polo was portrayed by young actor Lorenzo Richelmy. Since it was his first English show, it reflected in his ascent. The vision of Marco Polo will amaze the viewers. His vision and passion to prove himself loyal to king Kublai Khan helped to conquered the Song dynasty. He loved Blue Princess, a privileged guest of king Kublai, but their romance showed lack of passion.
Among Chinese characters, I liked Mei Lin most (portrayed by Olivia Cheng). She was a fearless mother, who would do anything to protect her child. Her Kung Fu was magnificent. Hundred Eyes played by actor Tom Wu was another of my favorite character.
I think, it is an underrated TV show and have fewer viewers than expected. Obviously it is compared to Game of Thrones but it should be remembered that GOT is fictional while Marco Polo is based on real history of Mongol and Chinese. Netflix should really consider more seasons.
The Last Kingdom (2015)
great story, good show
First I thought it is another TV series which tells us Vikings stories. But I was wrong. The show was more focused on the victims of Vikings or in this series popularly known as Danes. However, I liked it. It might not have lots of twists like Vikings or Game of Thrones but it has shown a lot of potentiality. I liked the development of characters. The lead character Uhtred of Bebbanburg was born as an ealdorman of England but raised by a Dane family. For this reason, he was stubborn, reckless, and fearless and possessed for characteristics of Dane than an Englishman. He helped King Alfred to save Wessex, the last kingdom of England from Danes. First his relationship which the King was not good, their relationship has been developed later. I liked the show because it did not only just focus on Uhtred. Acting of the characters was good enough. Though in the first two episodes acting of Alexander Dreymon (Uhtred) seemed expressionless, it was improved significantly in later episodes. I liked the character of King Alfred, Brida, Leofric and Beocca. The location and cinematography was awesome. Highly recommended for those who liked Vikings, Marco Polo and Rome. Eagerly waiting for second season.
