Zhou (2022)
GARBAGE.
I'd like to thank all the positive reviews for making me believe this movie would be good, and wasting my time. (written in sarcasm) Not scary. Not original. Cringe. Boring.
Brimstone (2016)
Amazing!!
This was quite grim, yet beautiful at the same time. Which, I think is really hard to do. I'm actually shocked at some of the below 6 reviews, because this is almost a perfect movie. So glad I saw this one, I'm so impressed.
Pet (2016)
Was okay.
Not a bad little thriller. Better than average, IMHO. One review said it was a "masterpiece". NO! Also a few 1 star ratings. NO. Plot and script were a little predictable and cringy at times. That said, the acting was pretty good. Not perfect, but I'm not mad at it.
Better Watch Out (2016)
Fun Christmas horror.
Home Alone meets American Psycho with a nostalgic vibe, is the best way I could describe it. If you like horror and are in the holiday mood, I'd suggest this one. I enjoyed it. Just don't take it too seriously.
Coming Home in the Dark (2021)
MEH.
Okay, so it's 60/40 for me on this one. The acting is good. The 'gore' and shock factor is great (if that's your thing) All of the technical aspects are okay. That said, after watching it I thought to myself, *WHAT WAS THE POINT?* I don't want to include spoilers, but I found the plot itself very frustrating and unsatisfying. Would I recommend a watch? If there's not a lot else out there... sure. But I wouldn't go out of my way for it.
I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
PRETENTIOUS.
I have no idea what I just watched or even how to feel. I just know I didn't like it. Acting was great. It looked great. Sounded great. (1 star for each of those things) Aside from that, however, it was just a mess of randomness trying to be profound. I'm so confused, and especially annoyed that I watched 2 hours of this thing and have no clue about... ANY of it.
Escape Room (2017)
NOT terrible.
I was interesting in this one a long time ago, but kept putting off watching it because of the terrible reviews. Finally decided to give in a chance tonight, fully expecting garbage. It wasn't. I'm convinced that the majority of IMBD reviewers are either, 1) really negative for "fun" or 2) have never seen an ACTUAL bad movie before. Was it original? NO. Was the acting awful? Not really. Bad effects? Boring? Badly shot? All NO. I thought it was pretty cool for the most part, and glad I watched it. It's not winning any Oscars, but to give it a 1 or a 2? That's just misleading people. It's pretty good at best, and okay at worst. I'm not mad at it, and it kept me entertained.
Arctic (2018)
Meh.
For what it is, it's a fine movie I guess. The acting and premise are good. I just found it to be very boring, and to be honest, that doesn't happen a lot. It just felt lacking for me. I don't know... B-
The Wilds (2020)
BRILLIANT!
I don't buy the bad reviews. PLEASE ignore them! Especially the ones that said they "couldn't make it passed the second episode" or whatever. Every episode gets better and better. It's reminiscent of Lost, but focuses on young women... I don't want to give too much away, but it's very deep. I thought it was amazing, and I need a season 2 ASAP.
Gerald's Game (2017)
Interesting.
I'm not really sure how to rate this movie. The acting was very good. Actually, most aspects were very good. The ending however... I don't know. It seemed to go in a VERY strange direction in the last 10 minutes or so, and I feel you'll either love it or hate it. I didn't care for it myself, which took my rating down a solid notch or two. It's DEFINITELY original, which I can always appreciate.
Intrusion (2021)
I enjoyed it..
I don't understand some of the hate towards this one. The only real negative part about it, is that it's very predictable. Other than that, it's a good movie, and certainly doesn't deserve a rating lower than a 5. I mean.. giving this a ONE? Have you ever even seen an ACTUAL bad movie? The acting was great (Logan Marshall-Green is always awesome), and it held my interest.
The Sinner: Part VIII (2020)
AAMZING!
I don't know what version everyone else watched, but the last few episodes (especially the conclusion) of season 3 left me in an emotional mess. It was EASILY the most brilliantly acted in the series. Like, 5/10?? I can't wrap my head around that kind of low-rating nonsense.
Cinderella (2021)
Yikes
So.... the mice were cute. And Camila Cabello is a much better actor that I ever would have guessed. That's it. That's the only positive things I can think of.
Aftermath (2021)
WHY the bad reviews?
Okay, before watching this I saw all the crappy reviews and thought, "uggh, this is going to suck, all these people can't be wrong..." BUT THEY ARE! Have you people ever watched an ACTUAL bad movie? Because this doesn't even come close. Is it perfect? No. But it's better than average, so to give this a 3 or a ONE rating? WTF? I'm glad (once again) I decided to watch it anyways. I really liked it.
Time Trap (2017)
PURE. GARBAGE.
SERIOUSLY? I wanted to watch this movie because, 1) I'm a HUGE fan of Ben Foster, and 2) Reviews were good enough. Five minutes in I really wanted to shut it off, but thought, 'give it a fair chance'. I wish I'd listened to my first instinct. I don't want to go too far into this because I've already wasted 1.5 hours of my life that I desperately want back. That in mind, terrible acting. BAD script. Weak effects. I literally hated every aspect about this thing, and am borderline angry that so many people made be believe this would be good, when it's a steaming pile. Like, WTF!?
Landmine Goes Click (2015)
ATROCIOUS!
WTF was that?! The fact this thing got over 50% ratings on here is SHOCKING! I'm all for depravity, B-movies, low budget, cult classics, etc.. this was just BAD. Bad acting, terrible script, scenes lasting 4X longer than necessary, the list goes on. I almost shut it off after 10 mins, but kept thinking, *the ratings aren't that bad, it has to get better* Well it didn't, and I feel like lashing out and the reviewers that said this movie was anything worth while.
The Neon Demon (2016)
WTF WAS THAT?!
Okay, I have to start out by saying that I generally love weird, artsy movies. This however, was just awful. It's trying way too hard to be 100 things, but it's honestly nothing! I'm amazed by the good reviews here. Acting was good, that I'll give it, but that's IT. It's too long, boring, pretentious, has scenes thrown in simply for 'shock value', and has the worst ending possible. If you can even call it an ending. I really wanted to like this, especially based on the reviews, but I'm just angry for having wasted almost 2 hours of my life on this garbage.
The Vanished (2020)
Solid thriller.
I really liked it. I was reluctant after reading some of the bad reviews, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. I think anyone that didn't like it either didn't understand it, or didn't watch all of it. It's one of those movies that makes you guess, then second guess everything until the end. Then you finally think, 'AHHHHHHHHH". This doesn't deserve anything less than a solid 6.
The Village (2004)
LOVE IT.
I don't care what anyone says, I LOVE THIS MOVIE, and everything about it. Period.
Alone (2020)
GREAT MOVIE!
This one seriously kept me on the edge on my seat, which doesn't happen that often. It's a pretty 'simple' movie, in theory, but extremely well done. Anyone giving this a rating under 6 is just being jerk for no reason. Solid movie.
Open 24 Hours (2018)
Not too shabby.
I think this deserves better than a 5. Okay, so it's not the most original movie I've ever seen, but it was still done pretty well. The acting was great (Brendan Fletcher is terribly underrated IMHO) and it kept me entertained. Also some really good gore, if that's your thing.
The Nightingale (2018)
Disappointing.
I wanted to love this movie. It had a lot of good aspects to it, mainly the acting of the main heroine (Aisling Franciosi), and some suspenseful, although unnerving, scenes. That said, I would say 60% of the movie was either unnecessary or dragged on and on. It took a LOT for me to stay awake after the first hour of this thing, and that is RARE for me. I kept hoping/thinking the "climax" would make up for the rest, but it never did. Just a big dud for me.
Bullet Head (2017)
Really good! Don't believe the negative reviews.
This is a solid movie. I honestly don't understand what's not to like about it. It's interesting. Different. Suspenseful. Touching. I'm trying to find some flaws, but there aren't many. Adrian Brody and John Malkovich are always amazing and this is no exception. Rory Culkin has become one of my favorite indie actors in recent years, and if his part in this movie didn't choke you up, you're void of emotion. This isn't a run of the mill "action-packed thriller". This is something much more deep.
Cabin 28 (2017)
Weak.
The movie description says, "based on the true life murders which inspired The Strangers". I knew it would be a lower quality rip off, and it was, but I still expected better. Everything about this movie was mediocre at best. The pacing was really off, which felt like the cinematography version of an 'awkward silence'.
The characters are so dumb and pathetic that you don't even care what happens to any of them in the end, which is sad because these events actually happened. And what is going on with the Mothers accent?? Cabin 28 is empty, lazy, and neither pays tribute to, nor is a great representation to this real life tragedy.
