Army of the Dead (2021)
Barely Watchable.
I only give it a five just because I'm a huge fan of zombies. This film is a major letdown. Black summer is a far better zombie product than this and Zacks Dawn of the Dead is much much better.
Forgettable characters. Bad lines.
And the cinematography? Who's bright idea was it to shoot with 50 mm lenses? You can't even see anything around the actors; just soft focus nothingness.
Does each character starts to die off it only made me realize the film must be coming to an end. Two and a half hours later it finally does.
I suppose it was watchable for a lazy Sunday afternoon, but it's forgettable mostly.
Can't they just make a regular exciting zombie movie? And what's with the super zombies? Jeeeesh.
And the daughter? I don't even know why she was in the movie and how on god's green earth does she walk away from a helo crash without an injury?
Crap film.
The Happening (2008)
A 5 only for my love of doomsday material
This is one of those films you watch and you try to like it much more than you do and you keep trying to find reasons to like it but you really just at the end realize you just don't like it at all.
the acting has been mentioned countless times it's some of the worst acting I've seen by alleged a-listers. Zoe runs around the entire film with this blank expression on her face asking stupid questions.
Marks performance is seriously something to fathom. This is a major star. He sounds he can barely get his voice out a d always ends with what sounds like he asking a Question.
The plot if just bad. One would rather not have any explanation at all after listening to the movie trying to tell you what was happening (M does that a lot with his films; exposition is so unnecessary) and frankly I'd rather take the approach of we don't know what is happening.
For doomsday and apocalyptic themes I was able to sustain it and the score is very nice.
But just the entire plot the science behind why and what is happening and the atrocious acting just kills it. Betty Buckley probably gives off the best performance in the film, but her character alone is just wackadoodle.
If not for the score, the always competent directing from M and the vibe of apocalypse, I have seen worse, but this is unapologetically just completely bad.
Steel Country (2018)
Fantastic.
This is filmmaking. Better than most everything coming out of Hollywood. Haunting, heavy, superb cast. A perfect film. Blown away and so happy I stumbled across it.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Tarantino owns it
Once upon a Time in Hollywood
Tarantino does not disappoint. I think Brad Pitt turned in one of his most fun roles of his career; I often feel like his career is bookended by great performances and the entire middle part when he was with Angelina Jolie is just when he was playing celebrity. He was so likeable in this film and natural.
and Leo is his usual awesomeness. Pure comedy in his performance. Played straight.
Tons of Pop references as expected and if you're into filmmaking and acting you're going to really enjoy the atmosphere.
I was wondering where it was going to go in the end and I started to get an idea and then it just went completely left and it was a joy to watch.
Awesome film. Tarantino is just so grounded in this film. I felt like it was his most complete film since Jackie Brown.
Tarantino is a legend. A true visual master and storyteller. Nothing seemed wasted in this screenplay.
if you're not familiar with the timeline of events regarding the Manson murders, take some time to intimate yourself before watching, it becomes extremely tense before the left turn.
Loved it. 10/10 IMDb
P.s. a new genre is being born. Revisionist history.
Black Summer (2019)
Back to the basics.
Finally. Zombie horror the way it ought to be.
If Left 4 Dead was a movie and the spirit of 28 Days Later.
This series is everything TWD/FTWD should have been. It's scary, tense, dreadful.
I love for the very reason that it's gone back to the bare bones of the genre. No gimmicks, no exposition, no babbling back stories. Just one adrenalized roller coaster of the apocalypse.
If you like the genre, you'll dig it.
I want more.
Red Water (2003)
Not as bad as I thought
I've seen bad shark after bad shark movie and this one is not even near that level . It's a B movie that exceeds in climbing to B+ .
Am I the only one who caught the About Last Night references?
If a movie can make me feel like I'm in their world, I'm pretty forgiving.
Way better than I thought . If you love movies, want a shark horror/thriller, watch it .
Don't expect too much. But I didn't feel like my time was wasted.
Better than JAWS 4 . On the same level as JAWS 3 .
And I ask again, the About Last Night homages .
