Maggie (2022)
Cute little comedy
A real pleasant surprise. I normally not very much like comedy, but this one is sure a very nice surprise. Perfect for spending an afternoon or two in the sofa. Not so much Sci-Fi, but that is OK. And I do like Sci-Fi.
Legacies (2018)
Three episodes in ...
After seeing three episodes I'm not fully content.
* There is a plot, yes.
* There is some supernatural, yes.
* There is beautiful young people / things that has "young people drama" and rivalry.
* There is acting, yes - but not the best.
Say it like this - there could be better acting, better editing, better directing, better cutting and so on. But it is not the worst I have seen.
I will continue to watch it ... for now.
I put 5 stars on it but ... It's probably not worth it technically but the genre appeals to me so that's why it gets as much as five stars.
Quantico (2015)
It started out good ...
When the series started, I was pleasantly surprised. I liked what I saw.
Season 1 and 2 were actually really good. When the season 3 started, I became a bit confused, it seemed as though they were losing interest in writing something that was held together. Still worth seeing - you do want to know how it ends - but not as good as the first season.
Now that all the seasons are done, I've seen them and the series is over, so I have to say: I do not regret seeing them. Would definitely do it again.
I gave the series an 8 in grades but ... it's probably the first season wich get an 8. The second would probably have a 7 and the third will be down at 6.
Overall I liked it and watched all episodes. That I dont do if i'm getting bored.
Travelers (2016)
A promising start
I have so far seen three episodes and it seems very promising. I am looking forward to watch the next episode.
This is not a fast-paced action. It is more of a slow and thoughtful series with some depth. It is undoubtedly not something that a person who just like quick cuts, simple action and a lot of running, shooting and screaming will think is good. This is more challenging, especially for the brain. It requires a little thinking and you have to be capable of doing that. Not everyone likes low-key, thoughtful series. However, it is not only slow and quiet. There is some action, however, we may not get to see it until it's done - you have to imagine it.
If you don't have imagination this will not be the best series for you.
So far, I think the acting stakes are high quality. They are credible, and no one seems to be doing a poor job. I hate it when the acting is stiff and unnatural, when it is more like they are standing and reading from a screen without the feeling is there, and when they do not mean what they say. Here it becomes believable.
Now I will see one more episode before I turn in for the night.
One and Two (2015)
A beautiful but a bit sad story
This is a slow but very beautiful movie. If you only are in to action then this is nothing for you. But if you like movies that will challenge and dare your mind and if you not are afraid of something more deep than a couple of men punching each other, then this is a film for you.
The film will get you in a state of mind that will begin to think, to wonder. Will this be possible? Can a father be like that? Loving and still so demanding and ... cruel.
And then you realize that it's the way people, mostly men, dictates their women and children to live exactly as they want them to do. It also shows how hard it is to break free from a family bond. Hard even if you don't want to be a part of it, if you do want to go. You can't go, there is too much holding you back. Fear, love, obedience even respect holds you back from leaving although you don't want to be there.
You know what you have but you don't know what you will get.
For me the film was not about their ability to "jump". It was about the fear of something new, something you don't understand, the will to have everything as it always have been. Their ability was just the unknown in the world. The film for me was also about breaking free and leaving old habits behind, leaving (killing) the tyranny, the dictatorship and seeking the freedom.
I liked the film and I will remember it a long time - maybe see it again in a month or two.
Covert Affairs (2010)
May contain some spoilers - not plot spoilers
I have just finished looking season 5 episode 16 and my thought was "Oh, but ... what ... I want to know".
I liked Covert Affairs, I liked the acting - well almost everything. It was a series with after thoughts, action, romance, sorrow, some sex ... well it had about everything you can expect.
I do become a little displeased with the fighting scenes. Why did all the men tried to strangle her? Every time? Isn't that a very difficult way to take out a opponent? Did the director have some special hangup with strangulation? Or is it consider special with a man strangle a female? Is it sexy or what? In my eyes it just is dumb. It is one of the first thing you learn to cope with if you have trained just a small amount of jujitsu for example - escaping a man trying to strangle you. And why should not a CIA-agent know those very simple thing ... They should be able to do something better than letting every man try to strangle her.
And the heals? And the sound of the heals when she is trying to sneaking toward a room or in a stairway? That is not very truthful is it? And when she did fight wearing high stilettos, why did she not put the heal in the opponent?
There was a lot of action flaws in my opinion but some how I really liked it. It was entertaining, thrilling, funny, sensitive and sadness (crying) - Yes, I do liked the series and I am a little sad that there was no more season.
A question - does the spy earn that much money so they have afford those shoes and those clothes? I don't think those are very cheap :)
Never Let Me Go (2010)
Beautiful but tragic story
A very slow going and deep history that unfortunately can depict a reality. A good or bad reality? It depends on who it is and which side the person happens to be at.
The slow pace is almost hypnotic and the music is so perfect for the drive of the story. If the pace had been any faster the whole movie would have been different and I think the meaning with it would have been spoiled. A perfect pace with perfect subtle acting - well done.
However, I think the old-fashioned production of environment, clothes and behavior is a little strange. I got the feeling that the film could play out around 1940-1950 but the story itself should be in the future. Or have we all been deceived and this already exist?
I really liked this movie, but one should have patience and not be on the lookout for an action movie. I really recommend this movie.
Satisfaction (2014)
Why oh why canceling this one?
One good, interesting and intriguing series and that one they cancel? What are they thinking with? The wallet of course, but why not do some better advertisement and give people a chance to learn something new and get rid of their wrong preconceptions.
I suppose the Americans have a little double standards in their thinking - they think its OK with violence, rape and drugs in movies. But when it comes to mutual accepted and agreed sex inside and outside the marriage THEN they are horrified and appalled.
They are like the three monkeys - see nothing, here nothing say nothing - then everything is OK and I don't have to learn anything new.
Or am I wrong?
The bottom line is - I'm sorry this series was canceled.
Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016)
Shall I really continue to watch this?
I am in two minds when it comes to this television series. Basically, I like this story, but the acting, the choreography ... it is absolutely abysmal. Should I really spend time keep watching this or is it better to read the books again?
The books win.
The "meaningful" silence that can be found in the dialogues are so contrived. Suddenly there is silence, all the actors standing still and looking strangely at each other. After an arbitrary moment they start talking again. The entire arrangement is so artificial.
The fights, which should be artistic and beautiful, are mostly just shameful and poorly executed gymnastics workouts.
And another thing (not just in this series, but all series and movies): How many girls can run and fight in high heels? In this series, it is not even particularly well done, even if they have film technology on their side.
I give it 3 out of 10 - and that will include 9 for the story ...
By the way, I saw the film that was made from the novel The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (Cassandra Clare) and that was way much better than this TV-adaption is. Why did they not continued with the film instead of totally messing this up?
Adding some info:
I have struggled with FIVE episodes. I have seen them and have sad to myself "OK it maybe will be better". But - Now I give up. I will not see the rest. Not until I really want to be irritated and angry.
I am really sad that it's not watchable. I do wanted to see this because I love the novels.
Alphas (2011)
Perfect way to spend a couple of days in bed
I have spent a couple of days looking at all episodes in both seasons. I'm sorry it is over. I would very much wanted to se more. I liked this.
I look at much during the days I have to spend my time in bed, and this one, Alphas, was very entertaining. Probably not the all time best series but still a very good one. I liked it a lot. I almost never give anything a 10 - neither a good 10 or a bad 10. This one got an 8, almost a 9.
If you have opportunity and time do spend some time with all the characters in Alphas - it's worth it.
