The Mandalorian: Chapter 19: The Convert (2023)
This episode made me quit following Star Wars !
I was there on 1977 and Star Wars was a marvel of a film to be treasured for the ages. What we are getting now is utter garbage! The people making the films and shows have no idea how to explore or entertain with George Luca's vision anymore. Now these people are using Lucas' Amazing idea to sell us their own political agendas. This episode shows that the people behind the franchise are lost and can't make anything worth watching. The toxic divided Star Wars fandom is divided and is not pleasant engaging in any meaningful discussions anymore. It's going to take a miracle to bring the magic of Star Wars back.
Sophie's Rules (2023)
A heart-warming film worth watching.
What stands out about the film Sophie's Rules are the strong script and the very good acting by the ensemble of the piece. I felt the film to be very entertaining and involving, making you care about what was happening to the characters on the screen. The standouts were the characters of Amber, Alice/Kathy and Sophia Haggard played by Maritza Brikisak who also co-directed and co-scripted the film. This is a feel good movie with a very poignant message of s people helping each other to find themselves in this crazy world. The story is told with a felt sincerity by everyone involved that makes you overlook its low budget limitations. While watching it I felt this film could easily be a pilot for a continuous dramatic series. If you are looking for a sweet dramatic film give this film a try.
The Lurking Man (2017)
Interesting psychological film
The film The Lurking Man has a lot going for it, especially a very strong performance by its lead actress Maritza Brikisak who truly immersed deeply in her character. It's a very impressive Performance. The male leads Daniel Lench and David Gregory in particular are very convincing in their respective roles. What appears to initially be a simple scary film is actually a deep psychological film of a Mother seeking redemption for past mistakes and the her final sacrifice for a loved one. The final scene is particularly creepy and effective. Based on a novel written by Keith Rommel the
film is never dull. The interesting and effective otherworldly imagery and the good and honest performances elevate the material beyond just a cheap scary movie. If you are looking for something interesting to watch with something with a deeper meaning then you might enjoy this film. A great effort. Recommended.
Firestarter (2022)
Speechless ... it's really a disappointing effort.
The bad reviews on this site say it all. This is a terrible movie! It's a Career killer film for everyone involved. When I saw the name Blumhouse I was excited to watch it. I thought it could be better than the original, but to my surprise it didn't take long for the film to go downhill. The pace, acting, special effects, dialogue is all wrong. It has so many cringe moments that you end up laughing rather than being scared. My main question is why the Blumhouse film company didn't ask John Carpenter to direct this film instead of scoring it?
The Stand (2020)
I liked it a lot!!!
Despite the fact that so many didn't like this adaptation of The Stand, I personally was captivated by its bold execution. I really enjoyed how it was made, going back and forth in time, to make the scope of the story work. The Stand needs to be read to be fully understood and experience, so no adaptation will suffice the reader whatsoever, regardless how it is made. People were very critical of the 1994 version when it came out, accusing it for the same reasons they accuse this version: The story pace and story choices and the casting. I was Ok with all these aspects because the show was very entertaining and the changes did not affect what the story was about. It was only a contemporary representation that in my opinion worked. The 9th episode was Ok if the makers wanted to continue with the story after the events of the book, and why not? It would be interesting to see what happens to them in the long run. What matters to me is being entertained by a show that is as ambitious as the book, and in my opinion the filmmakers succeeded in doing that.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
A very Good show
This show gets better as it goes along. I found the first episode just Ok, but the second one was very good. I can't wait for the next ones. I like the actors and it's feeling more true to the spirit of the original series. The production values are also amazing but most importantly is super entertaining. I feel it's going to get better as it progresses. I'm sticking with it.
The First Lady (2022)
Funniest comedy without a laughtrack !
I really enjoyed this show because it made me laugh a lot. Every time Viola Davis' lips appear you can't stop laughing and then when you see Gillian Anderson's jaw and you laugh some more. The only one serious in this show is Michelle Pfeiffer, she embodies the character quite well and you pay attention on what her character says, but as soon as the other ladies show up all seriousness goes out of the window and loses credibility. I will watch the other episodes because this is a great comedy without a laugh track.
The Adam Project (2022)
I tried to watch it but couldn't finish it... terrible!
This movie is so torturous to watch. Tedious. Cliché after cliché. Bad scripting, bad acting, bad CGI. It's all that's wrong with Hollywood these days. Sad.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor (2022)
Sorry
I really liked trying to like this show, but couldn't get into the characters. The appearance of the Mandalorian elevated a bit but not much. The directing by Roberto Rodriguez was not very good. I probably won't watch this series ever again. Disappointing.
No Time to Die (2021)
Didn't like it!
Sorry but this didn't feel like Bond film at all. Too long, badly written villain and a terrible ending. It felt like a vanity project for the actor Daniel Craig. Why people like this film is beyond me. Ah well .... At least we have have the classic films made a better Producer to enjoy!!
Yakusoku no Neverland (2020)
A really good effort!
I really enjoy this film! The three main actors were really good in it. Minami Hamabi was born to be a Star. The plot goes fast compared to the Manga and the Anime but it works well for the film and with what is trying to do. The cinematography is superb in the film and the Deamons are not very scary but that's Ok, they work for the story. I recommend reading the Manga after watching the film for more details to the story. Highly recommended film!
