Middlemarch (1994)
Perfection
Just loved this series. As a lover of British period drama this is one of my favourites. Some fabulous acting to boot. Can't believe someone said the actors were too old, Rufus Sewell being 40 when this was made. Not true, he was 27. Quite an exaggeration considering it was made 28 years ago. I would much rather some great acting by established actors than more age appropriate cause it fits the narrative more. Definitely not old by any means. So many wonderful characters in this, that it's hard to pick a favourite but I do really like Dorothea who the series is based on. Quite a fan of George Eliots novels. Can't fault this production.
Love Actually (2003)
Actually awful.
With such a great line up of actors, I thought this movie would be worth a watch. What an absolute disappointment. Can't believe I wasted 2 hours of my life on this mess. Don't get how so many gave this a 10. There's no accounting for taste.
Call the Midwife (2012)
Fantastic viewing.
Absolutely loved every minute of this great show. It never disappoints and all the characters are wonderful. For once there isn't one character I disliked. I could go on and on about how amazing this show is but all I can say is just watch it. Only one reviewer had some criticisms(can't understand why)but the rest give it the credit it fully deserves.
The Time of Our Lives (2013)
Wishy Washy.
Even by having some really good actors in this doesn't make for a great show. The most annoying and miscast of them all is Shane Jacobsen. Not a fan to start with but he really test your patience in this. Overrated as a singer, songwriter in the show, you/I can't warm to him at all. Sanctimonious and full of himself, he just doesn't pull off the character at all. Stephen Curry as the comedian is not one bit funny and is he suppose to be some stud muffin? It's like the woman are cueing up for him. There's nothing interesting or appealing about him. Chai Li the adopted sister is also quite unlikeable. After a failed marriage which doesn't even get of the ground as the groom leaves her standing at the alter she then proceeds to flit from one guy to the other, hard to know whether if it's for being rejected or for some quick gratification. Ironically ends up with Stephen Curry's character who was like the not quite adopted son of her parents as Chai Latte(as I call her)was actually adopted by these people. All a bit confusing, as close to incest as you can get without them sharing a drop of blood. Luce(Jacobson's daughter by his first relationship is so wooden that from the beginning of the show till the end her voice doesn't change in pitch or delivery. One of the most monotone voices I've ever heard. As for the rest of the shows characters, well they probably saved it from being a total flop, just. The characters don't really develop at all which you then ask yourself, what's the whole point of this show. Watch it if you're more into soap operas than good quality shows like Love my Way.
The Other Boleyn Girl (2008)
Too Hollyweird.
Don't like Johanasson and Portman. Couldn't they find two great British actors to portray the Boleyn sisters? Inaccurate of course. Like Eric Bana but even he was miscast. Boring!
The Boy Next Door (2015)
Dreadful!
All been done before. Terrible acting. Jennifer Lopez couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag. Don't waste your time.
Reign (2013)
Ridiculous!
Basically this crap is for teenage girls who know nothing about Royal History as the writers didn't either. Rubbish!!!
The Duchess (2008)
Lady Elizabeth Foster versus Camilla Parker Bowles.
Enjoyed the movie, but wanted to punch Lady Elizabeth Foster. This movie parallels the life of Diana Spencer and their lives were uncannily similar. An emotionally constipated husband and his mistress who ended up marrying after Georgiana's death. Men of different times but similar in so many ways. Diana's great, great, great Aunt also ended up having an unhappy life.
Mary Queen of Scots (2018)
Terrible.
Hard to even give it a 1 it was that bad. Everything about this movie was just awful. Won't waste my time on commenting on all the reasons why.
Poldark (2015)
Season 5, very disappointing.
Loved the show and was eagerly awaiting for Season 5. Totally disappointed. Perhaps should of finished with Season 4 cause it just ran right off the rails.
The Woman He Loved (1988)
Pretty Awful
Anthony Andrews is terrible as Edward V111. Wooden, emotionless and unconvincing. Jane Seymour was just okay. Seen a few versions of this story and this was definitely the worse.
The Forsyte Saga (2002)
One of the most nauseating female characters I've ever watched.
All I can say about this series is that it should of been called The Irene Forsyte Saga.
