Masters of the Universe: Revolution (2024)
That was really good!
Now the first 3 episodes finally got me what was lacking in Revelation (which I liked anyway): real emotional connection with the characters. I also really enjoyed the last 2 episodes, but felt them to be a bit too rushed. We finally got the kiss, we all wanted to see since we were kids, but it was too quickly cut short with humor. Still it was really good.
The cliffhanger got me excited again. Considering the fact that we saw a glimpse of Adora being kidnapped as a baby and not showing the face of the female horde soldier who saved Hordac in the end, I have high hopes for it to be her. Making Adora the next new villain of the show - oh that would just be it. Bring She-Ra in to this, please!
Tenet (2020)
Great idea - told mediocre
The idea is great, the plot points should work for most people - but it's told in a too confusing way. And I love complex stories! This just wasn't written very well. The special effects were great, of course, but the heroes goal was missing and the reason why we should care for him. It was all too confusing - I couldn't remember the characters or their stories, I didn't get most of the connections ... and that's coming from someone who loved a truly complex story like Dark. What looked extremely promising, turned out quite boring - my husband fell asleep at the end, because he couldn't follow anyway anymore. I say it's worth a watch - because the idea was great after all.
The Dragon Prince (2018)
All 4 seasons werde good so far!
Season 4 was good so far - but it felt like it was stopped in midpoint and not at the climax of a season arc. I guess the next season will be the actual end of this seasons arc? I was surprised by how quickly I loved Terry - and I pray nothing will spoil him, he is such a great character. I was confused at first why Reyla had been away and thought I had missed something. I really loved her and Callum together and I hope sparks will fly again next season. The elves vs. Human conflict is a bit tiring. All in all I am looking forward to the next "season" or rather the end of this story arc, including a surprising plot point 2, an actual climax and THEN a cliffhanger.
Surviving Summer (2022)
Nice watch, but weak story
The title might make you believe, that the main character is Summer. - Nope. She seems like a side-character at times. The opening scenes with Summer/New York and Ari/Australia might make you believe this show is about them. - Nope. The focus jumps from one character to the next. You might even think it's a romantic show ... - Nope again. It's a surfer show.
So everything I turned this show on for - wasn't happening. I did like Summer an Ari though, except when they were being obviously stupid just to get a (weak) plot point. Why 8 stars? Because I liked it. With a better story, a second season could be really fun to watch. Just decide on which story you actually want to tell, dear writers, before mashing bits of everything together that will not truly satisfy anyone.
The Sandman (2022)
First two Episodes
I was really looking forward to watch this, because the trailers looked so good. What should I say after watching two episodes? They were badly written, absolutely boring. And I like slow or dark shows! I really don't know, if I will continue to watch this. The only thing that makes me hesitate are a some good reviews here, but that should've been the writers job in the first episode ... Why are comic based movies always so badly written??? I don't get it.
Elvis (2022)
Oscar worthy
I didn't know that much about Elvis, except some of his songs, but this made me a fan - a fan of Austin Butler at least. His performance was truly outstanding - if he doesn't win best actor, there is something wrong. My husband also enjoyed the movie very, very much. I definitely recommend watching it! And yes, I would pay for a concert of Austin playing Elvis, too. He was absolutely believable. I could instantly understand the fan craze. So well played!
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
CGI can't compensate bad writing/directing
I really liked the trailers, so I went in, however it was not worth the money. Yes, there were some fun parts in it and I really liked the (underdeveloped) Jane Foster arc - but the plot overall was too messy, confusing, relying too much on cgi, completely forgetting a truly cinematic story. The last series I watched was Stranger Things - and the quality differences in writing, directing, cutting etc. Are astounding. Can't Marvel do better? I'm a bit bummed to write this, because Thor would've had so much potential. It's mostly ridiculous now - and unfortunately not in a good way.
Naeil (2022)
A Soul Becomes a Star
Episode 6 made me cry in ways I didn't expect. Sad but great. I also liked the other ones, they were good, but this one was truly heartbreaking. End of review. Have to type more, so that I can send it.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Don't look away
I didn't like this movie. It's supposed to be comedy, yes ... but it's not. It's way too realistic to be funny for me. I hope some of the people it parodies actually get its message.
The Unforgivable (2021)
Truly touching
This movie made everything right, it's truly touching and more than worth watching. Sandra Bullock was simply great. I recommend it for people who aren't scared of getting in touch with their own emotions.
Hannibal Rising (2007)
Movie was meh, Actor was prrrrretty
If this movies goal was to make me see Hannibal as a monster - it failed tremendously. Actor Gaspard Ulliel was waaaay too attractive for that, PLUS, of course, he had a very good reason to go on his vengeance campaign. I rooted for him until the end. Unfortunately I (like any other viewer) always knew there was no real danger for him, because he would grow up and become the famous, much less attractive version of Antony Hopkins. I have to admit though, I tried to watch the original and thought it was horribly boring (even though I like slow films) - so I probably didn't get as much from it as a true fan. Gaspard Ulliel however got my attention.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation (2021)
Part 1 - Great for old fans
So there are people out there claiming they're the only true fans and therefore have the only acceptable opinion on this show ... Well, I am a true fan as well, grew up on watching He-Man in the 80's and loving the show so much, I immediately was excited for this continuation. Did these five episodes leave me thirsting for more? DEFINITELY. GO WATCH IT. DON'T LET OTHERS RUIN IST FOR YOU. Unless ... you have trouble with strong women. Then leave. Because Teela takes the lead in three out of five episodes. And I love her, always did. She was of course a strong character in the Filmation series as well (as true fans should know, only her hair changed a bit - which seems to be enough to set a certain type of people off). It is as "woke" as was the original show in the 80's for its time, some just forgot that. The only "complaint" I have is: I wished Adam/He-Man was in all the episodes, because it's him that I care for most in this show. I do hope that in part two this wish will be fulfilled, even though the cliffhanger --- well, you have to see for yourself. I give the first and the fifth episode 10 stars, the other three 8 stars, and that's a very personal rating, because all the episodes are good. Also this part 1 makes me wish there was an Adam figure. #moremotu.

Words on Bathroom Walls (2020)
Better than I thought!
I expected your typical American High School drama, and it sort of is, but also surprises with real depth and emotion. It would've been a ten for me, if the ending had been less corny. Nonetheless I have really been moved by it.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
It's a good show
Watch it, it's satisfying and refreshing, with a great lead actress, that defies female stereotypes. The story arc itself, the plot points and the ending unfortunately are nothing new and pretty forseeable - but still satisfying enough to make it a good show overall.
Dune (2021)
Now that was GOOD
I have neither read the book (yet) nor seen the old movie, but this one was really, really good. It felt like a realistic, dark and yet beautiful story-world, emotionally intelligent, suspenseful and visually stunning. I did read other reviews before watching this and saw several that called this film "emotionally hollow". Honestly, what movie did they watch??! Or is the problem rather that those viewers themselves were emotionally hollow? I think it was emotionally rich. Just Beautiful. Makes me want to read the book next. Go watch it.
EDIT: I have read the book now - it does it justice in all the right places and the few changes were wise choices (eg. The multiple visions of Chani and making Kynes a black woman - the book IS old after all and women or people of colour need more representation). So - well done! Very well done!
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
A nice watch
Not a men hating movie, nope, just an a-hole hating movie, so I guess, some a-holes might feel triggered. Nice fighting scenes, story okay, your typical comic book turns movie stuff, not great, but a nice watch with very likable heroines.

Fear Street: 1994 (2021)
I really don't expect much from movies like this one ...
... but I absolutely hate it, when people simply act dumb in movies. There were too many silly decisions and plotholes. How does a story like that get approved from Netflix? I think I will give the second movie a try out of curiosity, but unfortunately I can't really recommend this one. The visuals and the actors were good, so I still give it 5 stars.
His House (2020)
a good film, way better than it's rating
Classic Horror mixed with real horror and a message. For people who are able to reflect life.
Annabelle Comes Home (2019)
Better than the reviews try to make you believe
I really, really like it. It was very suspenseful, a little frightening, had good characters and a very unusual end for that kind of film genre. I'm giving it a 10, because it is definitely better than this poor 5 star rating. My guess: Grunting men rating down the emotional parts in this movie, as always. I hope there will be more!
Fate: The Winx Saga (2021)
Didn't expect much and was well surprised
I wanted something light to watch and got something surprisingly good instead. It took me a while to really warm up to the characters, but know I'm hooked and want to see more. If you're into books like "The Mortal Instruments" this is just for you.
Supernatural: Carry On (2020)
A great ending
It was a great and very, very emotional ending. Really good in my opinion.
Alien³ (1992)
Watch movies 1 & 2 - forget this one
I watched those movies when I was a kid. While I loved movies 1 & 2, I didn't like this one. Later I forgot why. Now, watching it again for the first time in more than 20 years, I know why. Sigourney Weaver is a great actress, but this script is truly horrible. So is the directing. There is absolutely no suspense, because all the characters are so horribly stupid and unlikeable, and because scenes are cut apart way too often. The dialogues are painful. The special effects bad. Too many things don't make sense. How did this movie happen? I don't understand it ...
Dark (2017)
One of the greatest
Finally a series that dares to be very complex. And it does such a well job with that. Season one was intriguing and suspenseful, season two was such a joy to watch, because of all the connections finally starting to come together, season three was extremely complex, mindblowing even, and dared to go deeper into physics and thought experiments than any other show I've watched so far. The plot is very well planned, there are surprises all the way along, the characters are complex and very likable, the actors were spot on, the music well chosen - it's just all so, so good. My recommendation: Don't binge watch this. Take your time. It's so worth it.
