The Tomorrow People (2013)
Flimsy Reboot
This is a weak reboot of the '73 and '92 series' with a modernized feel. They have stayed true to the original show in some of the aspects, but throw fast paced dizzying special effects at the viewer leaving you with a bad taste of a jumper sequel.
The characters are bland, with no real back story. The plot seems like it wanted to leave hooks every couple minutes to draw the story in multiple directions, but the show feels like it will ultimately hinge on nostalgia from older viewers.
The original shows had been more intent on being for a younger audience and their intent was almost Scooby Doo and the gang mystery solving.
This show leaves me searching for the remote.
Whose Line Is It Anyway? (2013)
Gimmicky, Gaping Hole of Unfunny
The new incarnation of Whose Line is a reminder to everyone familiar with the old series of how much of a bore Aisha Tyler is to the series. Each episode starts with a rather tame introduction of the cast and then a long-winded explanation of how the show is set up. It gets to the point that it begins to feel that they could add an entire extra scene to the show with how much time she takes up.
Things just don't flow as smoothly on the show. Bringing in guest stars takes time to introduce them, but took away the audience interaction. Some of the better scenes I can recall from the Drew Carey edition was the audience sound effects. Quack Quack anyone? Instead we get dull actors to promote the shows that either you already watch, or you don't. They don't add anything to the show except the gimmick of tying in to another show.
The twitter hash tags are unnecessary. I want to see the show succeed after the long absence, but I don't feel we need to tweet about each skit on the show. I don't care if someone on the show caught a piece of popcorn in a skit.
There is no winner to the show, and no involvement for the host that it requires them to be funny or even present. Just get a voice over announcer and get on with the show.
