The Photograph (2020)
Not what I expected
The description sounded like a bit of a mystery film as a backdrop to a love story,
There is no mystery unless you are brain dead. The acting was ok but there was no there there. Really slow. It needed more oomph. It's a shame.
The Good Liar (2019)
It Wasn't Our First Choice
We saw the Good Liar because the timing worked out better than a few other movies with better ratings.
Having read the scathing NY Times review we were not expecting much.
However it was a wonderful ride with great acting, timing and fun plot twists. Never slow and a lot of fun. The only negative is that it is a bit convoluted. We did thoroughly enjoy it tho.
The Sun Is Also a Star (2019)
Acting ok - movie not so much
If they take out all the scenes of the skylines and them staring into each other's eyes or buildings the movie would be about 40 minutes.
The main actors are pretty good and attractive. But come on if you look up sappy in the dictionary this movie would be listed.
Rampage (2018)
Just fine for what it is....
We went under duress. A friend really wanted to see it. Perhaps it was because we had low expectations but this was a fun ride. The rock was great as usual. The movie checked all the boxes. It was fun, had good acting, humor, thrills and great special effects. No this isn't an Oscar contender but we had a good time. Isn't that why we go to the movies?
Red Sparrow (2018)
Piece of Junk
Jennifer Lawrence was totally miscast and this role with the nudity and thin acting requirements was beneath her. She and most of the actors walked through their roles. Hard to follow storyline combined with fake accent and deadpan expressions were just the frosting on the cake.
Hopefully this role doesn't tarnish J Laws future prospects.
Gravity (2013)
Sexist snooze
I don't get it. OK the CGI is fabulous but one could watch a lot of movies/shows with great CGI and special effects.
Sandra Bullock plays a doctor/scientist who is good enough to work on a special project in space. She has baggage, who doesn't? The film portrays her as a ditsy doodle. She talks about how she crashed in the simulator, won't follow command instructions and when she gets into trouble has to dream up a tip from the dead commander to get out of it. The lowlight came when she was in the Chinese station and didn't know which buttons to push so she goes enny meenie minie mo... Oh come on
This kind of sexism should have gone out years ago. Of course Sandra is perfect for the role. No wonder they had to go down the list of actresses who either turned them down or managed to escape from this mess.
To make matters worse they had to tie this up with a big Hollywood bow and have her survive.
