Silo (2023)
So. Much. Filler!
I've watched a lot of shows in my 66 years. You learn to recognize the 'filler', scenes that don't go anywhere, that don't move the plot, that pan over that set they just spent a lot of money on. This show has a lot of filler.
This show just doesn't come together. There's some clues and meaningless conversations and you keep waiting for a tidbit of meaning and it doesn't show up.
I got to episode 5 and I'm bailing. I was hoping it would work. There's always hope, right? Not in this case. Save your time. Do a crossword puzzle, clip your toenails, start your winter holiday plans.
I love sci-fi. This show is not worth your time.
Outer Range (2022)
Huh?
The screenplay for this show must be written before each episode. They barely connect. I just finished Season 1 and feel like I've been taken. Not worth it.
Invasion (2021)
So bad
And it keeps getting worse. Who greenlightwd this travesty? Shame on you. The characters are 2 dimensional, the plot line is, um, what? Yeah, right. There is none. Save yourself, and sell Apple stock now.
The Mosquito Coast (2021)
Lacking
I'm not sure what is wrong with this thing but it doesn't work. Overdrawn, heavy on b-roll, just lacking in real content. Sorry but I watched 2 episodes and ima pas.
In America (2002)
moving but not maudlin
I just saw 'In America' again, on the Sundance channel. I'd seen it years ago, remembered liking it, and it is still a very good movie to me. I'm not sure why, but it's a very moving film. I don't think it's melodrama or sentimentality. It touches a nerve in me about loss and grief and trying to move forward from that pain. It may not do that for everyone (and apparently doesn't, judging from the negative reviews). Also, the undercurrent of this 'magic' in the movie, a view that one of the girls sees in her life. It's a nice little theme (or plot line or ?) in the movie, a part that some may deem 'sentimental' but not a big enough part of the film to be anything more than the sweet look of the world through this girl's eyes.
Well acted, good story, nice soundtrack. Highly recommended.
