The Final: Attack on Wembley (2024)
Englands 6th January 2021
Firstly i'm not a football fan, i stopped supporting football about 35 years ago when it became more about the money and politics rather than the so called beautiful game.
However i do have an interest in Football hooliganism ( call it macabre ) but my view is if someone was a true fan of football why would they become a raving loon involving 22 grown men kicking a piece of leather up and down a grass filed in there underwear.
What got me was the way the producers made the ' hooligans ' out to be the good guys and the security and Wembley staff out to be the bad guys, and the guy with the neck tattoo who claimed he did it because he's been climbing the walls at home through the Covid lockdown was about as thick as the interviewer who asked him the question.
Personally the so called football fans who were interviewed and seen causing damage should have been bought up on charges and banned from games.
The Irrational (2023)
I enjoyed it - Renewed for a 2nd season
When i read the premise to this show i immediately thought The Mentalist / Elementary, two of my by gone favourite shows ever.
Alec Mercer is a world-renowned behavioral scientist who helps law enforcement to solve crimes ( bit like Patrick Jane and Sherlock Holmes ).
The show has promise and has been renewed for a second season however i'm not sure about Mercers sister being a part player and how the second season will cope without the whole 'catching Mercers bomber' sideline.
Personally i'd like to see more 'Hostage' episodes a bit like the opening scene of episode 1 of season 1 and if Mercer and his ex wife will get back together.
Looking forward to season 2.
Road House (2024)
Glad we had this Road House Version
So before i start i read a while back that the original remake of Road House was meant to have Ronda Rousey as the star and her be the daughter of Dalton and Liz Clay, naturally thank god this was scrapped years ago ( though we did have 2006s Road House 2 ) and so now we have Jake Gyllenhaal's Road House.
I'll admit i was looking forward to this film however i was a bit disappointed, i did find a lot of scenes funny and though i'm not a fan i found myself laughing at Conor McGregor's scenes.
I also heard they are making a sequel to this film and hope we see both Jake and Conor in the next however they need to go back to the original concept of Road House.
Alert: Missing Persons Unit (2023)
Not sure why all the hate
I have to admit i was excited when i heard Scott Caan was making a new show and reprising his role as a detective ( See Hawaii 5-0 ).
The first season of Alert had promise, okay the idea had been done before but it started off well, Scott and his ex wife had to find missing persons and as each episode went by it was there son who become the shows focus, firstly finding he was missing then to have him returned, the whole was he their son or not had you thinking but when the 1st season ended i thought ok that is another 1 season wonder.
How wrong i was and i was excited to see a 2nd season, and personally i think the 2nd season is miles better then the 1st with lots of change and new ideas, Scott still has his Detective Danny "Danno" Williams mannerisms.
Excited to see where this season goes and do not read into what the people who rated this show less than 6 stars.
Napoleon (2023)
Mixed feelings
I had been waiting a while to watch this film after hearing about it last year, as we know Ridley Scott did a fantastic job with Gladiator.
It had Joaquin Phoenix ( Commodus in Gladiator ), Vanessa Kirby ( The white widow M. I films ) and Rupert Everret ( Name of the Rose ).
As i said i was looking forward to this film but disappointed at the melodrama love story of Napoleon Bonaparte and Empress Joséphine, yes ive read history books and know of the turbulent love affair of both but i wanted more action Gladiator style.
The battle scenes between the French and The Russian/Austrians and The Battle of Waterloo were magnificent and we know the story of Napoleon and his fixation of war and the losses he incurred.
It was an ok film but not 2 hour 37 minutes ok.
Poker Face (2023)
Why is rated high on IMDB and RT
For the life of me i cannot understand why this show has been so highly scored even before it was aired.
I watched the first episode and it was a borefest, not one character is likeable and i cannot understand how they got Joseph Gordon-Levitt, David Castañeda, Adrien Brody, Tim Meadows, Simon Helberg, Nick Nolte, Ron Perlman and Luis Guzmán to name a few.
Storyline is terrible, a casino worker who goes on the run, the casino head of security chases her across the country whilst she meets certain types and solves crime? Shes a croupier who thinks she can read people and situations whilst solving crimes.
I don't know who thought of this but they need to go back to school and relearn the art of producing and directing.
Deputy (2020)
Snowflake haters gonna hate
Don't read to much into the 1 and 2 star snowflake haters. This show is really good. Reminds me of another show years ago with Dennis Quaid called Vegas.
Batwoman (2019)
Time for the bats to fly far far away.
I like the CW 'Arrowverse series' ( Arrow, The Flash & Supergirl ), but why oh why did they decide to make a Batwomen of all DC franchise is not just beyond me but also Batman fans.
I'm not going to go into all the ideas behind the series and the actress, plot and acting/dialogue because its all been said. Giving it 1 star is 1 star too many and we all know this show will be cancelled soon rather than later looking at the figures.
Hurricane (2018)
What a load of. .
Some months back I saw that we were expecting two WW2 movies in September, one being Spitfire, the other Hurricane. Now seeing as I'm a collecter of WW2 artifacts & being a big fan of War movies I looked forward to both movies, Hurricane is the first or the two to air & all i can say is I hope spitfire is miles better as hurricane is one of the worst movies I've ever seen...
The Condemned (2007)
Don't bother
I don't know why but i was so looking forward to seeing this film, i'd built myself up mainly because i love films like this where someone or something has to escape a purpose built complex whilst others or something is trying to kill them/it also i'm a big fan of both Steve Austin and Vinnie Jones........ BUT WOW how disappointed i was with this film and the acting, so wooden, so rushed, so lame, it was if the whole film was rushed from start to finish and that the writers wanted everyone dead within the first 5 minutes of entering the island to leave the other hour odd for our hero's story to come to the front and have him kill the main bad guy.
I've only given it 4 out of 10 because i felt in a good mood.
Spider-Man 3 (2007)
Oh dear what was that!!!!!
I was really looking forward to Spiderman 3, i loved the first one and enjoyed the second one so i was waiting for the day Spidey 3 to be released, i got my copy and sat down with so many expectations.......... they didn't come, i was so disappointed with this film and everything was so rushed, the writers should not have had so many story lines and villains in this one film, they could have easily got 2 hours plus out of Harry's and Peter's feud with MJ as the sideline, three villains and so any gaping story lines just dragged this film on and on and on.
For me the whole MJ/Peter romance dragged on, Venom should have been put to one side and done as a complete 4th film, Sandman should not have been made to be a bad/good/bad/good guy and should have been killed off at the end. Also the whole crane scene was badly done, okay spidey rescued the girl ( Gwen ) but what about the crane, the guy in the crane and the falling bits of office block, plus what did Harry say to MJ to turn her off Peter, the whole scene where peter was taken over by the bad suit and he was walking down the high street to music was watching something from Saturday Night Fever, oh and where in good's name was Spidermans spidey sense's? surely he would have sensed half the things that were about to happen in this film.
I'm sorry but this was a waste of a good superhero film.
Drive (2007)
An exciting adrenaline packed show.
Well i've just watched the opening pilots to this new series and i'm already waiting for the next episode.
As i said i wasn't sure what to expect, the first minute started with Nathan Fillion being chased by the guy in the black car i thought hey could get used to this as i love car chase movies but then i thought surely they cannot have a full series of just car after car chasing each other, then we started to get into the thriller aspect of things, okay you could say this show is a TV version of the movie Rat Race but without Mr Bean.
BUT there's more than meets the eye with all the participants and we've already touched on most if not all the racers have a deep dark secret from each other and the viewing public, the only people who know are the race organisers.
A great pilot and second show, hopefully will keep us all on a who done it edge of the seat adrenaline roller coaster.
The Unit (2006)
The Unit............ Fired Up!
As i live in the UK i've just come across this new series which started about a week ago and have to say i cannot get enough of this show.
When i first saw it advertised i thought 'another American drama series that will last 10 or 12 episode's and it will be thrown in the bin, anyway i gave it a chance and surprise surprise i was so hooked by the first episode ( First Responders ) that i managed to get my hands on the USA Region DVD box set and watched them back to back, in fact though i've watched the full first series and also caught the first two episodes of the second series i decided to follow it again on UK TV because i'm so gripped.
I have to admit that all the actors are new to me and though i've seen some of 24 i did not recognise Dennis Haysbert, the only star i knew was Robert Patrick, looking at the rest of the cast they've starred in American programs like Numb3rs, CSI, 24, The Shield etc which i've never watched but they all seem to gel together.
The story lines are fantastic and though we don't get a battleground episode each week they are still edge of the seat stuff, it's good to see one week have the team protect some high ranking official rather than go into some eastern hot spot to blow up a missile site each and every week, also though i'm a guy i am liking the way the story writers incorporated what happens to the wife's, girlfriends and families of these men when there away on missions and how the wife's know what they do are not allowed to know where they go and what missions there on.
All in all i am a very big fan of this show and hope it carries on for another 5 seasons.
Las Vegas (2003)
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas
I don't usually comment on films or TV shows but had to post a comment about Las Vegas.
Naturally here in the UK we are about 2/3rd's through the 3rd season and though i have managed to watch the last series of season 3 ( via other means ) i'm still glued every Friday at 9pm.
From the very first episode of season 1 i have been a big big fan of this show and own all 3 seasons on DVD, yes i cannot wait for season 4 to start in October.
So why do i love this show so much, well i have to agree with the last poster.... James Caan, i know one person cannot make a team but Big Ed Deline was made for Caan or maybe it was the other way around, i read that the producers were considering Martin Sheen for Ed Deline.... Do'h no way!!! i also agree that Caan's character is getting very soft, i also preferred the tough take no sh*t Big Bad Eddy D that we saw in season 1 & 2, he seems to have mellowed out.
As i said no one person makes the team by themselves's and of course the other cast members Josh Duhamel/Danny, James LeSure/Mike, Vanessa Marcil/Sam, Nikki Cox/Mary, Molly Sims/Delinda all contribute well, even outside cast members such as Cheryl Ladd as Jillian Deline, Harry Groener as Gunther, Dean Caine as Casey, Mitchell Longley as Mitch who may feature 6 or 7 times during a season can fit in just as well as if they've been in every single episode from day one.
This show has everything, drama, action, suspense, laughs, romance, glitz's, glamour and big time celebrity's who often play themselves's.
Many may disagree but this is one of the best shows on digital TV and i hope it may long continue after season 4.
King Kong (2005)
Disappointed
Okay so we're all not the same and as my old mother used to say options are like arseholes ' everyone's got one ', so my option on King Kong or KK as I like to call it ( Krappy Krappy ) wont appeal to everyone, especially those who loved it and put it as one of their best films of 2005, but for me the film let me down on so may levels, okay so I wasn't expecting a complete remake on the original and knew the producers would keep the basics, monkey meets girl, girl try's to escape from monkey, monkey gets girl again, climbs to the empire state building only to fall to it's death, but what with todays CGI Technology I was expecting much greater things, jeez even Godzilla with Matthew Broderick had better CGI and monster affects than KK and that was 7 years ago.
Why the dinosaurs? Was this to prolong the film and make Kong look more fierce when fighting them, okay we have an overgrown ape on a remote island in the 1930's but why dinosaurs who where supposed to have been wiped out millions of years beforehand, also what was with all the 'slow-mo' footage, was it to add to the suspense? Why have slow-mo in films.
This film had a 3 hour 7 minute duration and for me it was 1 hour and 37 too long.. Deeply deeply disappointed.
