The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)
Great movie
This is a great movie. As mentioned by many others, it is a collection of several short stories and despite the brevity of each, the writers and director (and especially the talent) did a truly astounding job of making the characters come to life, and it's almost as if you know their entire past just from a few minutes of dialogue and acting.
Every single story is a real delight. They vary widely in plot and some people might appreciate some more than others but personally I liked every single one of them. You can't really classify the stories in any specific way, as they all include elements of action, comedy, and historic accuracy, plus just a little dash of (spectacular) historic inaccuracy to spice things up and help the stories along. You can watch it multiple times and the stories are detailed enough that every time you watch you see more details.
I hope the do another film of more stories similar to this. I will be lookup up other stories by several of these actors and definitely by these directors.
Well done!
Bright (2017)
Yet again, the idiot critics prove definitively that they have no clue what is good
This is just another of the many, many, many movies that the idiots who call themselves "professional film critics" graded poorly. This film was awesome. The premise is far-fetched, but actually BELIEVABLE. The three lead cast members truly brought this modern day fantasy world to life. The action was nonstop and easy to follow. I like that they introduced the characters for a bit but didn't overly focus on back stories. They way the delivered their introductions made it very relatable, and contrary to the idiot film critics who wanted an SJW film, I liked that they didn't saturate the entertainment with a bunch of liberal agenda-driven drivel. They kept the movie entertaining and that's what I like. I don't watch movies to have some gay acceptance, race imbalance, or gender empowering garbage in my; face. I watch movies to relax and be entertained. I am really looking forward to the continuation of the story with Bright 2.
The Tick (2016)
Dam you Amazon for cancelling this awesome show
This show is awesome! Bringing comic book stories to life has proven difficult for many directors, but this show is definitely on target. I loved it. How in the heck did Amazon make the decision to cancel this show?? I'm pretty annoyed about it. I wish there was more we could do to bring it back.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)
Too much story line for one movie
There was way too much story line for this single movie. They should have split it into part 1 and part 2. I felt as if there wasn't enough character development, which wasn't so much a fault of the director but moreso a byproduct of cramming so much into a single movie. You were really left having to use your own imagination in several areas in order to fill some of the holes. This has some real potential as a multi-story franchise, but I feel a bit sad that they kind of opened and closed it all at once. What was the war about? Who was involved, and why? I want to know more about that floating city. Imagine all of the episodes they could make about things happening in the city. They've alreasy spent so much money building the world -- and I really must say WOW did they do an amazig job of bringing that city in spce to life. Start with a nice 2 hour movie to get the story like flowing, then release several episodic 1.5 hour movies with different adventures and misadventures, etc. With that said, I enjoyed it overall and would definitely watch a sequel to this movie.
Gravity (2013)
Overly beautiful CGI can't compensate
The CGI was beautiful (too beautiful to be realistic, in some cases) but that couldn't overcome the ridiculous movie. By the middle of the movie I wanted to slap the character. By the time the movie was over I found myself hoping she drowned. She was clumsy and incapable of anything. All she did was cry and moan the entire time. The kind of people that become astronauts must be highly trained, physically strong, and mentally stable. This character wasn't any of those things. Not only was the premise of the story too far-fetched to be believable, but even Interstellar was executed in such a way to make it more likely to happen. I know "it's just a movie" and it's just "meant to be entertaining", but I found myself groaning far too much to be entertained.
Seven Pounds (2008)
Wow.. Drama hater here... But wow
Hiow did the critics miss the mark so badly with this movie? I don't even watch dramas, but it was on TV and I just casually watched because I like Will Smith. What a great movie. I am having a hard time believing how much I liked it. It just goes to show that "experts" are rarely experts in anything more than title.
She's Out of My League (2010)
great great great movie
Honestly I watched this on FIOS mostly because I like Jay Baruchel. I had never heard of this movie despite it being nearly 7 years old. That said, it was a GREAT movie. It's a typical cliché he meets she and she's out of his league movie. (Oh hey, isn't that the title? LOL) As expected, they ignore the odds and get together. You'll have to watch the movie for anything more but I guess I'll just repeat a few times that it did exactly what I expected and it did it well! Will definitely watch it again. I have to write ten lines about the movie but that's a pretty ridiculous requirement just for a quick review. No wonder there are so few reviews except for those ridiculous long reviews that nobody is going to read. People just want to know how you feel about a movie. If you want details about the movie you read one of those novels that people with no life write, but if you want the simple truth -- watch the movie and you will love it.
Cowboys & Aliens (2011)
Awesome and underrated movie
Okay I really don't have a clue why this film's rating is so low. It was awesome. Without giving any details of the movie and messing it up for anyone let me just say that despite a very few slightly cheesy points, overall the movie was very exciting and in fact, thought-provoking at some times. The special effects were absolute great. Usually CGI leaves me for wanting but they did a really good job of making the aliens come to life and look very very real. If you like westerns, you'll like this movie. If you like sci-fi, you'll like this movie. If you like explosions, you'll like this movie. If you like a bit of romance, you'll like this movie. If you like being thrilled, you'll like this movie. I don't care that It's not your typical down-to-earth, realistic movie. In FACT, that's why I love it (and have watched it several times, thanks to DVD!) If you are addicted to PBS, but hate everything else... that's the only time I could see you not liking the movie. I hope they release a Cowboys and Aliens 2. I'll definitely watch it, as long as they don't flub it up with 3D and force people to waste 5 bucks renting uncomfortable 3D glasses. The theaters are so expensive as it is.
