A Perfect Day (I) (2015)

A perfect day in an imperfect world
26 January 2016
"A Perfect Day" brings us back in 1995 and offers an interesting point of view to the last days of the Bosnian war.

The movie reveals a day of an international team of aid workers. It is a drama with a pinch of black humor. The movie shows the horror of the war, the pain of the local people and alludes the cruelty of religious intolerance. Most importantly it reminds the imperfection of the society and the black spot from the European history that should never be forgotten.

More than 20 years later, although I am also living on the Balkans, I still cannot figure out why this war started. A total madness that led to some many casualties and losses for everyone involved...

The music is great and so is the cast of "A Perfect Day". I always enjoy watching actors like Benicio Del Toro and Tim Robbins. Mélanie Thierry, Fedja Stukan and the young boy Eldar Residovic also played well. Olga Kurylenko, who you may remember as a Bond girl, performed excellently. Btw it is a bit sad that no matter what she does the "Bond" label will always be with her.

A masterpiece appropriate for Bulgarian audience only
25 January 2016
I enjoyed the movies when I saw it on cinema six years ago. I enjoyed it even more a month ago when I watched it again.

"Mission London" is a masterpiece but there are a couple of issues: you will not understand it if you are NOT living in Bulgaria and you will NOT like it if you are working for governmental organization in Bulgaria or another county in Eastern Europe. Clearly the movie is not for everyone but if you fulfill the requirements above you will have a lot of fun.

The plot is very good and the actors are well known in Bulgaria. There are a lot of hilarious moments and memorable funny quotes.

The Revenant (I) (2015)

A violent movie with a mediocre plot and brilliant actors
24 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
"The Reventant" offers mediocre, straightforward and predictable plot. The good guy, Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio), is a 19th century superhero who survives grizzly bear attack and revenges for the death of his son by punishing Fitzgerald, the greedy bad guy, played by Tom Hardy. As expected, there is a fierce struggle between the good and the bad guy at the end of the movie.

"The Reventant" is not for everyone. There are a lot of brutal scenes with violence and blood. It is a strange mix between the blood, the camera shots and angles from Tarantino's movies such as "Kill Bill" with the classical action movies about revenge, like the popular old title with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, or Liam Neeson.

The actors do a fine job in obviously difficult conditions. Unfortunately, the characters are not unique and the dialogs are not memorable at all. I do not remember even a single quote from "The Reventant" that stands out. There is no doubt that Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy are brilliant and deserve praises despite the poor scenario. In my opinion Will Poulter was fortunate to play the most interesting character in the whole movie and he also did a good job.

Boring and annoying
20 March 2015
A couple of mediocre actors and a complete lack of a screenplay. The only thing worse than the trailer of "The Trip to Italy" is the whole movie. For the first time in my life I saw most of the audience leaving the cinema far before the end of the movie.

There was nothing dramatic in "The Trip to Italy" and it falls flat on humor. If you have 107 free minutes and you want to see a British comedy with dramatic moments I recommend you to watch a replay of the derby Manchester United vs Arsenal (8-2) from 2011.

Please do not repeat my mistake. Do not waste your time with "The Trip to Italy".
