WWE Backlash (2008)
Backlash 2008
1. US Championship - MVP vs. Matt Hardy The crowd was really into this match, which helped make a good match even better. These two worked at a nice pace with some good spots every now and then. Hardy's win was a real feel- good moment, it seemed like he just won a word title. 7.5/10
2. ECW Championship - Kane vs. Chavo Guerrero Well this was a lot better than their Wrestlemania match, which only lasted a few seconds. Surprisingly, Chavo had most of the offense in this one, working on Kane's injured leg. Good psychology, but it ended out of no where. 6/10
3. The Big Show vs. The Great Khali I didn't expect much from this match, so I wasn't too disappointed. A lot of punching and kicking here. I'm confused why they made it seem impossible to lift Khali, when Cena and Kane have done it before. 4/10
4. Guest Referee: Chris Jericho - Batista vs. Shawn Michaels I thought this was a very good match, best of the night so far. It was interesting to see Jericho involved here, actually calling a fair match. There was some more good psychology from both men here. I wasn't sure if Michaels actually hurt his knee or was just playing possum, but he nailed Batista with the sweet chin music to get the win. 7.5/10
5. 12 Diva Tag Team Match A lot of divas and a lot action, but nothing worth watching. 2/10
6. World Heavyweight Championship - The Undertaker vs. Edge This was a rematch of their main event encounter at Wrestlemania, which was also an amazing match. These two have had a great feud so far, and this match only added to it. Very entertaining, near 20 minute match. Very cool ending and post match beat down to continue the Taker/Edge feud. 8/10
7. WWE Championship Fatal 4 Way Match - Randy Orton vs. John Cena vs. Triple H vs. JBL This probably would have made more sense to be just Orton vs. Triple H, but making it a four way elimination match made it a little more interesting. A lot of action at the start which lead to two quick eliminations. After that though Orton and Triple H put on a great match that went back and forth until the end. Good main event. 7.5/10
Backlash 2008 was a very good pay per view, and a great follow up to Wrestlemania. The Taker/Edge match was the best on the card, but the main event, HBK/Batista, and the opening match were all very good as well. This was one of the best Backlash pay per views in awhile.
WrestleMania XXVI (2010)
Wrestlemania 26 Review
1. Unified Tag Team Championship - The Miz & Big Show vs. John Morrison & R Truth This match had a lot of potential as it started out fast paced. It was starting to build momentum and ended out of nowhere. Way too short at just over three minutes, but it was a decent way to open the show. 4.5/10
2. Triple Threat Match - Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiase The first half of the match was Legacy double teaming Orton. It started to get boring but things became interesting again when Rhodes and DiBiase attacked each other. Nice finish with a punt to the head of Rhodes. 6/10
3. Money In The Bank Ladder Match - Similar to the rest of the ladder matches, only in this one there were ten superstars. I prefer less wrestlers in these matches so there aren't as many bodies just laying on the mat outside the ring, but this one had enough nice spots to make up for it. Better than the first two matches, and I liked the finish even though Swagger couldn't get the briefcase for awhile. 7.5/10
4. Triple H vs. Sheamus First singles match of the night, and this one wasn't a disappointment. Sheamus actually looked like a main eventer here, with the help of Triple H of course. There were plenty of near falls which lead to a finish that happened out of no where. 7/10
5. CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio The straight edge society were involved in this match early. I was disappointed at how short of a match this was, around six minutes long. But, this was very fast paced with plenty of nice reversals from Punk to counter Rey's high flying. Nice finish as well but this should have been a bit longer. 7/10
6. No Holds Barred Match - Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon McMahon has had some pretty entertaining no dq matches at Wrestlemania in the past, but this just felt like a long promo. The Hart family surrounded the ring after being introduced by Vince, but turned on him and the rest of the match was a slow beat down. Not worth a watch. 2/10
7. World Heavyweight Championship - Chris Jericho vs. Edge I remember when the winner of the Royal Rumble got a main event title shot at Wrestlemania, but I guess they changed that somewhere along the line. This was a very good championship match. It was a little slow paced for awhile, but towards the end there were many near falls which lead to a screwy finish, but it worked. The post match beat down was also memorable. 7.5/10
8. 10 Diva Tag Team Match I skipped this one, I had a feeling this wouldn't be Wrestlemania worthy. N/A
9. WWE Championship - Batista vs. John Cena This was another fun championship match. This match also had its slow moments but they all lead to some nice spots. The crowd was split and pretty hot towards the end of this one as well. I was disappointed Batista didn't get the win here, but both men worked hard to put on a good match. 7/10
10. Career vs. Streak Match - Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker This years main event was a memorable one. This was a rematch of the last year's Wrestlemania classic, and it lived up to its expectations. The pacing was great in this one, and even though it didn't go a full half hour, these two worked hard for 23 minutes. There were some sick spots, one including the announce table. The finish was also very memorable. Great, great Wrestlemania main event and a way to end Shawn Michaels' career. 9.5/10
Wrestlemania 26 was an excellent pay per view. There were 8 matches worth watching, with the only disappointment being the Bret/Vince match. The three main events were all great matches and worth the purchase of the DVD alone. 8/10
WWE No Mercy (2006)
No Mercy 2006 Review
Gregory Helms vs. Matt Hardy - I'm kind of surprised these two opened the show, but it worked as they were the hometown boys. The crowd was really into it and made it even better. Some basic wrestling that lead to some very close near falls towards the end. Great opener. 7.5/10
WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London & Brian Kendrick vs. KC James & Idol Stevens - London & Kendrick really made a great effort in this one. The challengers also looked pretty impressive, and I'm surprised they never got pushed after this. Another match with a lot of near falls until the finish. 7.5/10
MVP vs. Marty Garner - I remember how disappointed I was when this match happened. I expected something better than this. Just a squash and waste of time. 1/10
The Undertaker vs. Mr. Kennedy - I really liked this match, and feel that it is underrated. Kennedy dominated a lot of the match which helped build his credibility. It did have its slow points but it was still an entertaining match. For as long as this match was it did have a pretty lame finish, but it is still worth watching. 8/10
Falls Count Anywhere Match: Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero - I really didn't like this feud. This was a different than I expected from these two. They brawled into the crowd and still used some high flying moves. There were plenty of nice spots. Very entertaining match. 7/10
William Regal vs. Chris Benoit - This match was made during the show, and as i expected from these two this was the match of the night. It was very different than any of the other matches on the show. It was a very stiff and technical match. This reminded me of their match at the Brian Pillman memorial show. What a match. 9/10
Fatal 4 Way Match for the World Heavyweight Championship: King Booker vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Batista vs. Finlay - This was originally supposed to be just Booker and Lashley, with Batista and FInlay a separate match. I would have preferred that but these four put on a pretty good main event. It had a good pace and was very hard hitting. There was also some blood. Good ending to a very good pay per view. 7/10
I was surprised by how good this pay per view ended up being. There were many quality matches at No Mercy, especially during the first half of the show. But the best match wasn't even scheduled before the show. Benoit & Regal stole the show. I would definitely recommend No Mercy 2006.
Extreme Rules (2012)
Extreme Rules 2012 Review
1. Falls Count Anywhere Match - Kane vs. Randy Orton Despite the stipulation, I didn't enjoy this match as much as their Wrestlemania encounter. But the match was pretty entertaining with the action going backstage. It also had a pretty good finish. Not a bad opener. 6/10
2. Dolph Ziggler vs. Brodus Clay I never really enjoyed Clay's matches, but Ziggler put up a good fight and made this almost watchable. I would still skip this one. 4/10
3. Tables Match for the Intercontinental Championship - The Big Show vs. Cody Rhodes The action was pretty decent, but the match was ruined by an abrupt and pretty lame ending. The match is short enough to be worth a watch though. 5/10
4. 2 out of 3 Falls Match for the World Heavyweight Championship - Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan These two were finally given a decent amount of time to have a great match-up. So much better than their 18 second Wrestlemania match in every way possible. These two showed that they are main event worthy superstars. Bryan deserves another title run and this match shows why. 9/10
5. Ryback vs. Two Jobbers Squash match in between two great title matches. Skip. 1/10
6. Chicago Street Fight for the WWE Championship - CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho The third Wrestlemania rematch on the card, and in my opinion the best one. Very different style match than their previous encounter, but it was hard hitting and dramatic. Either man could have won this match, as the worked well together and put on an awesome match. 9/10
7. Divas Champinship - Nikki vs. Layla Nothing special here. Skip. 1/10
8. Extreme Rules Match - Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena Wow! Lesnar absolutely destroyed Cena, busting him open with nasty elbows early on. This was a very different main event than I'm used to seeing. It was very violent and somewhat slow paced, but everything worked. I was disappointed by the ending, as it was the typical Cena win out of no where. But good main event. 8/10
Extreme Rules was a good pay per view overall, with a couple of duds but the two championship matches and the main event make the DVD worth the money.
WrestleMania XXVIII (2012)
Wrestlemania 28 Review
1. World Heavyweight Championship - Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus This was a very disappointing start to the biggest PPV of the year. Only 18 seconds long while these two deserve 20. 1/10
2. Kane vs. Randy Orton This match actually surprised me. I was very entertained by the action throughout, and the pace really quickened towards the end. Good finish as well. 7/10
3. Intercontinental Championship - Cody Rhodes vs. The Big Show This was just too short in my opinion at just over 5 minutes. It wasn't a bad match but it could have been better if it was given a few more minutes, 5/10
4. Eve & Beth Phoenix vs. Kelly Kelly & Maria Well this could have been worse, still not worth the watch. 2/10
5. Hell In A Cell Match - The Undertaker vs. Triple H Shawn Michaels was the guest referee for the match,, which really added to the drama. These two put on an amazing, main event worthy match. This one topped their fight at last year's Wrestlemania. It did get pretty slow but that would probably be my only complaint. Great hell in a cell match. 9/10
6. Team Johnny vs. Team Teddy Nothing special here, they kept it short so it never got boring though. I found it funny that Team Johnny captain Otunga never actually saw any action. 5/10
7. WWE Championship - CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho This was another match that was main event worthy. Great action from start to finish. There were a few cringe-worthy spots as well which really added to the match. There was a great sequence at the end of the match as well. Awesome title match. 9/10
8. John Cena vs. The Rock The match that we all waited a year to see, and it truly lived up the hype. These two put on a great show for over thirty minutes. The crowd was really behind The Rock here. It was a very fitting end to this year's Wrestlemania. 8/10
While the undercard wasn't anything special, the Hell in a cell, Punk/Y2J and Rock/Cena matches all made the pay per view special. I would recommend the DVD for those 3 matches alone.
Summerslam (2001)
Summerslam 2001 Review
This year's Summerslam had a lot of build up, continuing the WWF/Alliance feud.
1. Intercontinental Championship - Lance Storm vs. Edge This was a great opener, as both men worked very well together. The action was fast paced and never got boring. I feel this match is underrated, as the match was good from start to finish and also helped start a new feud. 8/10
2. 6 Man Tag Team Match - The Dudleys & Test vs. The Acolytes & Spike Dudley I honestly didn't expect this to be a good match but it turned out to be an entertaining one. Everybody worked pretty well together, and there was a pretty sick spot in the match. I wouldn't skip this one. 6/10
3. Cruiserweight Championship - Tajiri vs. X-Pac Another fast paced match where both men worked hard. I was disappointed at how the match ended but that doesn't take away from a great match from the smaller guys of the WWF. 7/10
4. Chris Jericho vs. Rhyno I enjoyed the storyline with Stephanie McMahon wanting someone to take Jericho out. This was also a very entertaining match. It had its slow spots with Rhyno taking over and punishing Jericho, but both men's styles made an entertaining match. 7/10
5. Ladder Match for the Hardcore Championship - Jeff Hardy vs. Rob Van Dam I might be the only person that didn't think this match lived up to its expectations. Don't get me wrong, these two worked hard and put on a good ladder match, but I thought it would be more "hardcore". There were some botched spots but still a fun match to watch. 7/10
6. Steel Cage Match for the WWF & WCW Tag Team Championships - Undertaker & Kane vs. DDP & Kanyon This was really a squash match. Not horrible but it was still pretty disappointing. I'd skip this one. 4/10
7. WWF Championship - Steve Austin vs. Kurt Angle This was an awesome, hard fought battle that was really marred by a screw job finish. The crowd was really behind Angle throughout the match, and a win from him would have made them erupt. He took a beating early in the match, but came back and appeared to have Austin beat. Great match none-the-less, I would highly recommend watching this is you haven't already. 9/10
8. WCW Championship - Booker T vs. The Rock While not as good as the previous championship match, the ending was much more fitting to close the pay per view. Both superstars worked well together to create an entertaining main event. Thankfully the finish was solid and sent the fans home happy. 7/10
Summerslam 2001 was a great pay per view from the WWE. There was only one bad match, while all of the rest were worth watching. The opener and Austin/Angle matches were both awesome. I highly recommend this DVD!
