Shadowland (2022)
They walk among us
It never ceases to amaze me how many complete and utter dinlos exist out there. It is actually quite sad, as most the individuals appear to have their heart in the right place - that is they want to help others. But their thinking is just so distorted and extreme, and in some cases result in their prosecution. They see themselves as victims or martyrs. They are victims - not victims of the system as they perceive themselves to be - but victims of the very nonsense they peddle out in the first place, brainwashing others after being brainwashed themselves.
It is both sad and disheartening to watch this series, but it does provide an eye opening account into the backgrounds and motivations of the conspiracy cults and people involved in these.
Encanto (2021)
Dreadful
Dreadful film. Dreadful soundtrack which I am subjected to on a daily by a partner who is obsessed with it. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because is has John Leguizamo in.
Disney what have you done?
Finding Alice (2021)
Codswallop
Absolute load of codswallop.
The only reason it gets two stars is because of the cast. The way ITV have built this up you would have thought it was their flagship programme of the year. So disappointing.
Game of Thrones (2011)
What has TV come to?
I remember days when good TV involved decent actors producing serious performances that gave you hard-hitting drama and kept you gripped. Fast forward 10-20 years and I'm seeing Hollyoaks rejects playing Dungeons and Dragons and ending up higher ranked than a show like The Wire. The world has gone mad.
Dark Heart (2016)
Distinctly average
Average acting, unbelievable characters, never grabs hold of you like half-decent shows do. The most annoying part of it is that it is all filmed in a ridiculously dark way, perhaps for some sort of effect (which doesn't work). The police station looks like some old primary school from the war that has never been updated. Why do we keep seeing these? Go back to the good old days of The Bill (before they did the same to that) and have police stations that look like police stations. When first watching this I actually wondered if it was based in the 60s but evidently not as you watch further on. Another poor drama from ITV who seem to be struggling to keep up with the dramas on offer from the BBC.
Collateral (2018)
BBC drama going down the pan
What on earth is going on at the BBC? Perhaps we have been spoilt with the likes of Happy Valley and Line of Duty, and have now set expectations too high. Collateral, on paper, and with a great cast, gave me much hope, but it was just so boring and dull. The script was terrible and, yet again, the BBC disappoint.
Furthermore, I am getting tired of the BBC ramming their PC messages down our throats. Whether it is the news, their soaps (an impassioned rant about immigrants on Holby City springs to mind) or these flagship dramas, they just can't help themselves. It feels like they're trying to atone for previous mistakes and scandals and make sure that everyone knows they are at the forefront of political correctness and anti-discrimination. I support anti-discrimination and anti-oppression, but hate the way the BBC force propaganda on their viewers at every opportunity, no doubt alienating and angering the viewers their messages are aimed at.
Just get back to concentrating on providing good, quality entertainment please!
Love/Hate (2010)
A Must See
Quite simply the best drama I've ever seen. Came across the first series by chance on Channel 5, and thought it was alright.
From then on it just gets better and better. The Wire was my favourite, and I appreciate how much more complex and entwined The Wire is, but Love/Hate genuinely gripped me from start to finish. I have seen all 4 series, and certain things could have been done better, without giving too much away, but it still delivers pure suspense and something UK residents can relate to, as opposed to The Wire. If you enjoy crime dramas you HAVE to see this, you won't be disappointed. Brutal, thrilling, gripping drama. Well done RTE.
