  • A sensitive and luminous autobiographic epic of three generations in the Sicilian little town.

Nostalgic and beautiful picture set in Baaria, Sicilian slang for Bagheria, where Tornatore was born n the 1920's and this is an autobiographic epic of three generations in the Sicilian village .Giuseppe "Peppino" Torrenuova works as a shepherd to help his father. He belongs to a poor family but Peppino always finds ways to get a little money and all along developing an agreeable love story between an innocent young boy and a beautiful girl. The film is set in the small town from Sicily, in pre-WWII, the rise of fascism, during WWII, and the subsequent political movement, developing an analysis of the emergence of the Italian Communist Party of which our protagonist Peppino Torrenuova (Francesco Scianna) is an important member and making a critique of Christian Democracy, including urban corruption. Meantime, Peppino, falls in love with a girl, Mannina (Margareth Madè), faces the opposition of her parents, but finally manages to marry her, has children and all along a lot of social and political events .

It is an interesting celebration of childhood, youth, family, politics and the everlasting magic of the films. A nostalgic and bright picture with thought-provoking drama , ravishing cinematography and moving musical score. ¨Baaria¨ is supposed to be a semi-autobiographical account of the ancestors of director Giuseppe Tornatore himself, in fact Bagheria is a small town close to Palermo where Tornatore, the film writer, was born and grew up. Retelling Baaria's life, there a child lives, he grows up and developing an adolescent-coming-of- age story, including an enjoyable romance and subsequent marriage to Mannina: Margareth Madè and after that, forging himsef a political career as a communist councilor.

The picture contains drama and nostalgia in equal parts, completely wrapped in wonderful images and attractive soundtrack. The movie gets a sharply social critical about village customs, Sicilian habits and political events. The story is narrated with great sense and sensibility, the intelligent screenplay is by Giuseppe Tornatore himself. Slightly overrated but excellent all the same time , the picture is enjoyable and entertaining , but overlong. It contains a glowing cinematography with scenarios colorfully and splendidly photographed by Enrico Lucidi who reflects the marvellous exteriors from Bagheria, Palermo, Piana degli Albanesi, Sicily, Italy, and Tunis, Tunisia where some outdoors were shot. As well as rousing and moving score musical by the veteran master and prolific Ennio Morricone who won a deserved Academy Award for ¨The hateful eight¨(2015). The motion picture was well directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, although at times it makes somewhat episodic with some incidents that suddenly and without explanation are cut off. Tornatore is a writer and director, known for making similar nostalgic films including good actors , such as ¨Malena¨ with Monica Belucci , ¨ The star maker¨ with Sergio Castellito , ¨Baaria¨ with Raoul Bova ; and ¨La Leggenda del Pianista Sull'Oceano" (original title) or "The Legend of 1900" or "The Legend of the Pianist on the Ocean¨ with Tim Roth . Being his English-language debut feature titled ¨The professor¨ with Ben Gazzara . Tornatore made a similar nostalgic film, his big hit and excellent ¨Cinema Paradise¨(1988), Giuseppe's intention was that this movie should serve as an obituary for traditional movie theatres and the movie industry in general. Rating Baaria: 6.5/10. Better than average, well worth watching for exceptional cinematography , first-rate acting and marvelous score .

  • Ultraviolent and gripping sequel full of noisy action , crossfire , and fights in a video game style.

Thrilling and nail-biting follow-up with violent combats and very high body-count. We know what happened from the original John Wick (2014): an ex-hit-man comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that killed his dog and took everything from him . With the untimely death of his beloved wife still bitter in his mouth, John Wick carries out a criminal spree. Nowadays, in the beginning of the film John Wick is at the desert (the same as Lawrence of Arabia (1962) was shot) and he uncovers a path to defeating The High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes. High Table member Marquis Vincent Bisset Dee (Bill Skarsgård) summons New York Continental Hotel manager Winston (Ian McShane) and his concierge Charon (Lance Reddick's final film, including a dedication card to be added to the end of the credits) , where he explains that the High Table has given him unlimited resources to kill John (Keanu Reeves) and chastises Winston for previously failing to do so. Once again, John Wick discovers that a large bounty has been put on his life. The hitman will find himself dragged into an impossible task in the heart of Berlin and Paris' secret criminal society, as every killer in the business dreams of cornering the legendary Wick who now has an enormous price on his head . In this fourth entry John Wick 4 Parabellum (2019) , blind with revenge, and for his salvation John will immediately unleash a carefully orchestrated maelstrom of destruction against those attempt to chase him . An army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail an everywhere. The legendary hitman will be forced to unearth his meticulously concealed identity and to carry out a relentless vendetta . Along the way, in "Porte des Lilas¨ Paris subway station John Wick meets the Bowery King (Larry Fishburne) and Winston (Ian McShane) who help him. Now, only blood can quench the boogeyman's fourth for retribution .Baba Yaga. No Way Back. One Way Out. Don't Set Him Off! . Revenge is all he has left. You want peace, prepare for war . Don't Hunt What You Can't Kill. Tick Tock, Mr. Wick. Everyone Is Waiting. For John Wick Every Action Has Consequences. This Friday, Wick is Back . Its the World Vs. Wick. Every Action Has Consequences.

Extremely violent follow-up with lots of killings , thrills , frantic action , suspense , sword-play and shootouts . It's an action-packed film with an interesting mingle of intrigue , martial arts , sword-play , ancient rituals with bizarre codes and bloody combats in comic-books and video game styles. The plot is simple and plain , as John Wick being forced into action to save his life and steadily butchering his merciless enemies, while inching ever closer to the long-awaited bloody final reunion. This a rousing thriller with plenty of sigital visuals, ustoppable action , including impressive fighting with a lot of blood and gore. It's a mindless but enjoyable for thrillers and martial arts aficionados of the old style , but adding some new technical being made by means of digital computer generator as well as expert stunts. Abundant shootouts, as well as fists fights as swords struggles in which arms and body parts are slice off here and there and limbs are slit open everywhere or blasted apart . Of course , highlights of the film are the breathtaking and groundbreaking fights with lots of blood dropping here and there. Keanu Reeves is nice as John Wick , the expert former assassin , in which drenched in blood and mercilessly hunted down, he can surely forget a peaceful retirement as no one can make it out in one piece . Due to extreme violence, it was dramatically cut for its original theatrical release in some countries , which still garnered '18' certificates all around the world. The unrated version of the film features an extremely bloody splatter .. The reason for the cruel and savage murders make only recommended for those adults no squeamish .

It packs colorful and luxury, though dark cinematography by cameraman Dan Laustsen. As well as moving musical score by Tyler Bates and Joel J. Richard. Both of them, musicians and cameraman, are regulars in the saga, which is why both the photography and music are similar in all the entries. The motion picture was professionally directed by Chad Stahelski . This craftsman has made the ¨John Wick trilogy¨ formed by the following ones : ¨John Wick I¨ 2014 by Chad Stahelski, David Leitch with Michael Nyqvist , Alfie Allen , Willem Dafoe , Dean Winters , Adrianne Palicki . ¨John Wick: Chapter 2¨, 2017 with Riccardo Scamarcio , Ian McShane , Common , Claudia Gerini , Lance Reddick , Laurence Fishburne , Tobias Segal , John Leguizamo , Bridget Moynahan. ¨John Wick III Parabellum¨ with Halle Berry , Ian McShane , Laurence Fishburne , Mark Dacascos , Asia Kate Dillon , Lance Reddick , Tobias Segal , Anjelica Huston , Saïd Taghmaoui , Jerome Flynn . And this : ¨John Wick: Chapter 4¨ with Keanu Reeves , Donnie Yen , Bill Skarsgård , George Georgiou, Laurence Fishburne , Hiroyuki Sanada, Clancy Brown, Marko Zaror, Aimée Kwan and the recently deceased Lance Reddick. Rating: 6.5/10. More of the same but entertaining enough.

  • Penny Marshall's first dramatic effort based on the true story of a good doctor.

Dr. Sayer (Robin Williams) is a pioneering neurologist who is experimenting with the drug L-dopa to cure people with rare and very serious diseases. He wants to take a risk and give his patients who suffer from encephalitis a drug used for Parkinson's Disease. Sayer tries it out on one man who miraculously wakes from his perpetual catatonic state. Sayer discovers that one catatonic patient Lucy Fishman (Alice Drummond) responds when Sayer drops her glasses, and she moves her hand to catch it mid-air. Other doctors dismiss it as a reflex action. The hospital staff includes Dr Kaufman (John Heard), Dr Tyler (Bradley Whitford), Nurse Margaret (Mary Alice), Nurse Eleanor Costello and others. Sayer learns from Mrs Lowe (Ruth Nelson), mother of a catatonic patient called Leonard (Robert De Niro) that young kids communicate with their parents through actions and not words There is no such thing as a simple miracle !.

A heartwarming and heartbreaking film with great interpretations, being based on the book by Doctor Oliver Sacks himself and interesting screenplay by prestigious Steven Zaillian. Focusing on the first patient to be awakened , Leonard, agonizingly and miraculously performed by Robert De Niro. Dramatically , the movie is hampered by some overacting and the fact that its high point, the 'reawakening' itself, happens half-way through the story and the downbeat aspects set in from then on. Robin Williams is terrific by offering a subdued and moving acting as the upright, stubborn doctor. While Robert De Niro playing the youngest of the group is heart-rending. But there is still much to admire and touch the emotions throughout the movie. Other important support cast are Julie Kavner as the faithful nurse, John Heard as the sceptical chief of medicine and there are painfully poignant portraits from many of those playing other patients, including secondaries worthy of being highlighted such as the veteran Ruth Nelson, Penelope Ann Miller, Alice Drummond, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stormare,Max von Sydow Judith Malina, Barton Heyman, George Martin, Anne Meara, Richard Libertini, Laura Esterma and even the jazzman Dexter Gordon.

In Awakenings, Randy Newman's sensitive and engaging musical score stands out splendidly. As well as the appropriate and atmospheric cinematography by cameraman Miroslav Ondrícek, although except for a few exterior scenes, most of the film takes place inside the Hospital. The motion picture was competently noticeably directed by Penny Marshall. She was a notorious actress/producer and fimmaker Her film debut came from her brother Garry Marshall, who put her in the movie ¨How Sweet It Is!¨ (1968) . After that, Penny played ¨The Odd Couple¨ (1970). She also performed Mary Richards' neighbor, Paula Kovacks, on The ¨Mary Tyler Moore Show¨ (1970) and ¨Happy Days¨(1974). His film debut in film direction was ¨Jumpin' Jack Flash¨ with Woopi Goldberg. Later on, Marshall went on achieving numerous hits as producer, actress and director, such as ¨Renaissance man¨, ¨Preacher's wife¨, ¨Awakenings¨, ¨A league of their own¨ and his huge success: ¨Big¨. She directed two actors to Oscar nominations: Tom Hanks (Best Actor, Big (1988)), and Robert De Niro (Best Actor, Awakenings (1990). Rating: 7.5/10. Above average. A highly recommended film for Robert De Niro and Robert Williams fans.
