Wolf Pack (2023)
There is potential for season 2
The characters are very bland. Basic. But because of that, they all have potential. Blake runs away from her problems at every turn, Everett is now free from his anxiety and depression because he is now a werewolf so he is embracing it, while Harlan wants to stick with the normalcy that he's made for himself and Luna is struggling with accepting that the romanticized version of being in a pack and being a werewolf that she's been holding on to for so long is just not reality. All of this is very obvious and not at all surprising, but that just means that the characters have more than enough room to grow and evolve. I like that even though the creator also created Teen Wolf, Wolf Pack is not at all the same kind of show. Sure, there are some similarities, but not too many. There are different rules, it's a different world. I've not read the books that this show is inspired by, but I doubt I will need to since the show is trying to stand on its own. There are more than a few problems with the show so far, the pacing and the dialogue and some of what the characters have done are a bit too unrealistic or just very dumb teenage behavior, but the main storyline is solid, and the season ended interestingly enough that there are questions that need to be answered like who the man on the phone is and what will happen now when Ramsey turned out to be the original arsonist and wants the pack for herself as a replacement family and I know that people who gave the show a real chance, like myself, are curious of what season 2 could bring.
Wednesday (2022)
A masterpiece.
What Chilling Adventures of Sabrina COULD'VE BEEN. (i'm joking obviously)
It's like Tim Burton watched Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Part 1, the only part of that show that's worth watching) and said to himself "I can do A LOT BETTER!" And he SUCCESSFULLY did.
The similarities are as follows: Pilgrims. Witches. And pilgrim witches. A look into a strange past involving pilgrims burning witches. Visions. Visits from spirits. Ghosts. A boarding school in the woods for supernatural students. Outside a small town that is mostly toxically patriarchal, filled with small-minded town folk who just want to appear accepting in a shallow way, while covering up/just forgetting their history with teenage boys being bullies and causing problems. A strange and mysterious destiny that seems inescapable to the female protagonist who believes they are evil or might become evil in the near future. The female protagonist has a very supportive family. The female protagonist has a complicated relationship with their mother (or mother-figure). The female protagonist has a teacher that is even more supportive, telling her whatever she wants to hear in an obviously grooming her kind-of-way. The female protagonist rejects "normal" and has no real interest in s*x/physical relations in the way her family has taught her. The female protagonist likes to do things and handle problems ALONE, but will put her friends/loved ones in mortal danger. Takes her loved ones/friends for granted a bit. She likes to challenge authority. Witch hunters. A love interest that is a normal boy who helps her although he doesn't know much about the supernatural, what she's planning and is also somewhat afraid/spooked of the supernatural with a dead mother and strained relationship with his father, and for whatever reason seems to be interested in the female protagonist. A semi-love triangle with normal boy (who wears a lot of plaid) and a boy who's not normal, immediately interested in the female protagonist, popular, strange and suspicious. A mean girl who has a history with the supernatural love interest, is in choir and whom becomes an ally. A best friend to the protagonist who has her own struggles but is mostly positive and is also supernatural. In the end something supernatural happens that makes the protagonist "fall out of love"/walk away from the plaid-wearing love interest and returns to strange and suspicious love interest who is "more her kind". Oh, and a brother (or brother-figure) that the female protagonist is close to. And a sidekick who will help her with whatever, especially spying, and is not human.
End of joke.
LOVED this show. I was surprised to see that Morticia Addams was a little less darker than I'm used to, and also she doesn't speak French. And the whole family is Latino (?) I think.
The whole cast is very talented. I do hope that this isn't one more show that Netflix goes "oh the cast isn't completely/mostly white? Well we can replace that with something else, we're sure it won't be missed." THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE SHOWS LIKE THIS ONE. For the sake of the baby goths of the future generations (joke) but no seriously, I really hope there will be a season 2.
The only real flaw was that it wasn't longer (felt a bit rushed near the end), but Netflix rarely gives more than 8 episodes to something with a big budget like this one. I CAN ONLY HOPE THAT SEASON 2 WILL BE PICKED UP QUICKLY, and maybe contains more than 8 episodes this time.
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.
Thunder Force (2021)
Cheesy, a bit cringy but it's entertaining if nothing else
The future mayor uses fear plus supervillains to be elected, the crab is a villain/henchman that goes semi-good at the end, having a romance with the superhero. The silly superheroes are both "big" women and seeing them become superheroes from scratch... All things I liked. The cringy parts, like the raw chicken thing... Went on a little too long.
But it was solid entertainment. Like I managed to turn off my brain a bit when I watched this, and I needed it.
There were some moments when I felt this movie was kinda SNL-ish but still, entertaining, and at the end of the day, that's all it needed to be.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018)
Strong start, sad finish
This show needs a reboot.
Enough said. The dark concept worked in the first "season" but after that it was a little too much about relationships, and there were a few too many time jumps. There were some things that just were wrong (like the lynching) and couldn't be easily explained. The aesthetic & the "popular love interest" was what made the show loved. But that doesn't mean that it's good. Near the ending the show just lost it's "vision" and became very hard to enjoy. A lot of "fan service". And too much like it's sister show "Riverdale" and not in a good way.
The best thing would be for the show to get a reboot. Similar to what happened on the sister show, just begin years later. It would be more interesting.
Riverdale: Chapter Ninety-Nine: The Witching Hour(s) (2021)
good to see Sabrina again
Sabrina Spellman was only on screen for like 3 scenes, her being the reason many non-riverdale fans decided to watch this episode in the first place, and sadly she mentioned that "happy sad endings are the best". Which is bulls*it.
Obviously a reference to the (not really planned or really wanted) "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" ending scene of Sabrina with her mentally unstable and/or mentally broken pet warlock/boyfriend in the sweet hereafter/Hecate witch afterlife? After he had killed himself to be with her > because suicide is "romantic" for witches who don't really die... They just transform.
But pretend, that in the world of RiverVale and a Greendale with witches playing softball that really "happy sad endings are the best". Because sometimes that's all that you get. Even if you were expecting, and promised better.
And so it's better to pretend.. Better to believe the pretty lie, than it is to face the harsh ugly truth.
Other than Sabrina's appearance and confirming her horrible ending, the Riverdale AU storylines with Cheryl, although not very understandable, were very entertaining and sweet. Another win for RiverVale. Lots of Choni/Cheryl fans got what they wanted.
The Prince (2021)
Not the best show but also not the worst
There have been other shows that have been parodies of the British royal family before, and they went on for a while. This one just happens to be animated.
If The Prince got a chance, I'm thinking that it could go from satirical humor & just being a pure parody and venture into something heartfelt & realistic like BoJack Horseman did with several topics.
This is not political. It's not a message. Please don't see the show as that. Not everything is political.
It's just a comedy show that's trying to find it's voice. Maybe not yet having found it, but getting there.
And it does have some interesting storylines.
Riverdale: Chapter Ninety: The Night Gallery (2021)
Not a crossover with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (like the rumor said)
Other than a mention of an "angry eldritch terror" at the end, there's almost nothing that suggests that this episode is any kind of crossover with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. There was a rumor that it might be.
Very disappointing.
Good episode, I guess. I stopped watching Riverdale at some point but I might start watching it again.
The Good Doctor (2017)
A very "interesting" show
As someone who has been around people who are considered "special" and know that they are told that there are certain things that they can't-do, I can say I'm happy that this show gives them a little bit of hope.
To feel "limited" is not easy. And it's not something anyone should ever have to feel. Just because some things are more difficult for you than for others, does not mean that you should just give up on your dreams.
...Yes, it's obvious that the creators of this show want to exploit the audience, making you both feel sympathy for the main character because of their "condition" and also feel proud that the creators of the show would approach the subject of autism.
But for those of us who do struggle with having people look at us... Differently, when they find out that we have a diagnosis that "limits us" in our daily lives, this show is actually quite inspiring.
Personally, I can't wait to see the next episode.
Barely Lethal (2015)
Pretty great movie
SPOILERS! If you aren't into the whole "this is about a serious topic and yet it's funny" then this isn't the movie for you. This is another one of these typical teenage movies where you would think it's a Disney movie if it wasn't for all the swearing and sexual innuendos.
However, there is no real action in this movie, even if it's about assassins. It's more about a girl trying to be normal. Like a lot of other teen movies.
But still pretty good, and for those who have been raised by foster families, this movie might hit them a little to close to home. But still, this movie about assassins and there is no actual killing or blood, nothing really violent.
I do wonder, as do those who enjoyed this movie and waited the extra minute and a half to see the ending scene after the credits, if there will be a sequel? One where Meghan goes to college, and has to fight her nemesis again? It would be a chance for the movie makers to have a new chance. The sequel can be better than the first one. I don't know any movie series where that's true, but I believe in optimism.
