The Omen grown up
9 December 2014
I saw this at AOF and really enjoyed it. It reminded me of The Omen. Except instead of Damien being a small boy, it is an attractive and unusually captivating woman. All the pieces line up to her past for her being the spawn of evil. As it delves into demonic possession and dark magics, Jordyn uncovers her past. The story was fairly straight forward without much subplot, which I would say is the main negative. But the acting and cinematography made it compelling to watch. Some of the dialogue was over the top, but that added to the films charm. It had a lot of unusual-ness to it, making it different from the norm of horror. But still worth the watch if you like obscure horror films.

Character driven zombie film
9 December 2014
I saw this at a festival. Not knowing what to expect other than a zombie film with a romance film title, I was pleasantly surprised. The film shows the characters and their emotions during a zombie outbreak. You really feel for the characters. The subplots and character development make you cry with them.

I thought the dialog and use of emotion in what is normally a zombie driven genre made this film unusual. Kind of like the first season of The Walking Dead, you follow the group members, not the chaos which is secondary. You don't know whether to root for the pacifist or the zombie hunter. I would have liked to see some more zombie slaughtering, but I see the direction the director took, focusing on the individuals more than the situation and think it paid off. It was well directed and written, although some of the scenes were shot a little dark.

Overall, it is an enjoyable character driven zombie film. If you are looking for heads exploding this isn't the film, but if you are looking for well thought characters and character development, this is the film.

Quality doesn't need cost
9 December 2014
Studios spend tens of millions of dollars to distract us with explosions, effects, and big names. The Hit men Diaries doesn't have that. What it does have is strong writing, great cinematography, powerful acting, and some names from actions films of the 90's. Raymond Barry does a great job as the lead, playing a ready to retire gangster.

I saw this film at AOF and everyone was at the edge of their seat at the gritty dialog. A well evolved film that shows us, a good script and good acting, makes for a good film. The story drew in the audience. The duality of the character intrigued. The director did a great job retelling a classic style heist film. All the pieces came together for this.
