Drinking Made Easy (2010)
Pales in comparison to Three Sheets
Three Sheets this show is not. In fact, it's sometimes painful to watch sometimes due to how absolutely boring it is. The six six-pack challenge should be the highlight of each half-hour episode but I find myself fast-forwarding to see who wins. I think they've wised up and put it during the credits now. The show completely lacks character of any kind. The only bright side to the show is any carry-over from Three sheets (Pleepleus!) and even those are done halfheartedly. What hurts this show the most is the video editing and Steve McKenna. Compared to Three Sheets, which actually had fun and interesting snippets with "The Professor", the only "fun facts" in the show are pop-up balloons which challenge you to read a bunch of tiny text while trying to pay attention what what Zane and the crew are doing simultaneously - not a great idea since the show also doubles as a drinking game. Three Sheets also had a ton of great humorous sound effects, visual effects, and clever editing which made the whole episode that much more enjoyable and unique. This show has none of that. Like I said - complete lack of character. Now on to Steve McKenna. Remember that old saying that children should be seen and not heard? Steve should be mentioned, and not seen. When Zane would tell a Steve McKenna story in Three Sheets, it was actually funny. There's nothing funny about watching Steve. In fact, watching him down a drink that he's supposed to just taste is funny once - not every single time he's handed a drink. His beard (or mohawk/mustache depending on the episode) is just nasty. Everything he drinks/eats gets caught on it and either drips off or just lingers. He just takes the show a step lower and is completely unnecessary. In the end, my fiancé and I love Three Sheets and we've bought all four seasons on DVD. This show won't even grace our DVR.
WALL·E (2008)
PIXAR at it's finest!
It's truly amazing what PIXAR does with the two main characters. With as little as three words repeated occasionally throughout the entire film (two of them being each others' names), they create more emotion and personality than most actors ever could. PIXAR continues to raise the bar in this genre. The world, the animation, the characters, the story, the music, the humor, the emotion, and design were simply incredible. The films PIXAR creates have a habit of being extremely touching and this one doesn't disappoint. Not once, but TWICE I found myself tearing up. WALLE, EVE, (and MO!) are simply some of the best characters PIXAR's created since Finding Nemo. I can't recommend the film enough and if you only see one movie this summer, make it this one. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and finally sigh...when it's all over.
Transformers (2007)
And the Crowd Went Wild...Literally!
I'm just simply going to say that this is probably THE best summer blockbuster movie of all time. I'm a child of the 80's and had two-dozen G1 transformers growing up and can easily say without hesitation - Transformer fans and Mike Bay haters, you have absolutely NO reason to bash this film. I'm not a huge Mike Bay fan myself. I just saw the film with a group of friends (Mike Bay bashers and huge Transformer fans themselves), and we all agreed that Mike Bay just redeemed himself and delivered in every way imaginable. Optimus Prime has lips? The nerve! I had my doubts, yes, but once you see the human factor in him because of it, you'd want him no other way. Besides, when his mask is up, you know sh!t's gonna get crazy. I love it. And the emotion they give to Bumblebee tugs at your heart. Anyway, the projector broke during the climactic fight and was down for about 10 min. We picked up where we left off and the ending was worth the wait. Holy Jesus. We all got free passes afterward and the 4 other guys that went with me all agreed - when we can use 'em, we'll use 'em to see this movie again. To put it simply: It's THAT GOOD. Well-written comedy (no really bad one-liners for a change), brief romance (which usually rode shotgun to the comedy thanks to Bumblebee), unimaginable animation and compositing, insane action sequences, and the Transformers get so much screen time, they should be nominated for a supporting actor(s) Oscar. Shia LeBeouf and Megan Fox (oh is she ever) have great screen chemistry but Shia (aside from the TF's) really stole the show - definitely one to watch out for. For almost three hours, I was 11 years old all over again rootin' hard for the good guys - and so was everyone else in the theater. I've never heard a crowd get into a movie as much as this. Laughter, cheers, "Oohs", "Dohs", and clapping surrounded me throughout the show. Hands down - BEST movie going experience EVER. Dad, can I see it again??? Wow.
Fainaru fantajî sebun adobento chirudoren (2005)
You couldn't ask for more
Hands down, this is one of the best sequels a game has ever gotten. I was incredibly psyched to hear about a sequel to Final Fantasy VII but when I heard that it was going to be a movie, rather than a game, I had my doubts. To take such a huge story and ridiculously deep cast and wrap it up in such a small amount of time gave me second thoughts on whether it could be done justice. I mean, we're talking about giving closure to a story that took days (possibly even weeks) to unfold in a measly hour and a half. I thought it couldn't be done. I thought it was a mistake because of the "Spirits Within" mess. I was proved wrong in so many ways I'm practically ashamed. Although I had wished for a follow-up game sequel (as many of us did) to spend countless hours losing myself in, Advent Children delivered on all accounts and then some.
And to shut up all those narrow-minded souls who keep complaining or knocking off points because this movie won't appeal to or make sense to everyone, it's because IT'S NOT MEANT TO! For the love of the Lifestream (ha ha), Shut the hell up! This sequel was for FFVII fans and FFVII fans alone! Who the hell would go down to Blockbuster and rent this flick if they've never played the original? Better yet, who'd PLAY a sequel without having interest from the beginning or at least a strong word of mouth/review vibe? I've never read one review of a game sequel ever losing credit for not being a stand-alone story. All game sequels, movie or game, have built off the original and one needs to know the original to appreciate all the sequel has to offer. If people are going to treat this differently just because it's a movie, consider FFVIIAC one extremely long cut-scene and shut the f up!
So getting back to my praise, it's been years since I played the original, yet, everything came back instantly as if I never left. Even memories of my college roommates WATCHING me play (that's how good the game was) come back to me. I even teared up at the end of this one. The characters and familiar locations were all there waiting for me as if it was a personal reunion. "Bravo" or "Well Done" doesn't cut it. The only response worthy of this film, this masterpiece, is....."Thank You".
The Incredibles (2004)
Pixar's Best
With every new release from Pixar, I have higher expectations. Incredibly (ha ha), they hit the mark every time. Not only did Pixar improve on their human characters (not their strongest in the past), they have more personality and expression than most actors out there. I'm not exaggerating. I was enthralled by every bit of the movie. The characters were very well-developed and the writing, as usual, was priceless - whether it be through dialogue or simply the situations the characters get themselves into. The story was, again, the best part of the movie but that's what Pixar's all about and that's what I love about that studio. Story first. Eye candy second. And let me just say there is a hell of a lot of eye candy. On top of a great story with more-than-believable characters, the graphics and sound floored me. I caught myself a few times with my mouth gaping open in sheer awe of what I was witnessing. From the explosions, fast camera action, and scenery to the character animation, ocean water and wet hair, you will be amazed. If anyone doesn't see this movie in the theaters, it would be an incredible shame.
