War and Remembrance (1988)
Man's inhumanity to man
Just finished watching all 12 episodes. Very powerful miniseries. Remember war and winds of war from 1980s. War scenes were well done and got perspectives from both the allies and the axis. Also saw Adolph Hitler descent into madness and insanity.
Most powerful scenes were what happened to Aaron, Natalie, Berel, and Louis Henry Jastrow. Heard that Dan Curtis was given unprecedented permission to film at Auschwitz and saw in agonizing detail how Nazis eliminated the Jewish final solution with zykon b.
Finally the actors from Sir John Gielgud, Topol, Jane Seymour, Robert Mitchum, Jeremy kemp, Steven derkoff, hardy krueger, Robert Morley, hart Bochner, Polly Bergen, Victoria tennant,, to the thousands of actors and extras. Well done.
Finally, if anyone wants to see the horrors of the holocaust, go to Washington DC and visit the US holocaust museum. I visited there in 2002, and remember seeing thousands of shoes from the concentration camps. It was very powerful especially right after Attacks on NYC and The Pentagon in September 2001.
JAG: King of the Fleas (1997)
Excellent episode
Agree with other user about depiction of Vietnam war. Was a usaf veteran from 1983-1990, and got to know senior ncos and officers who served in Vietnam. After service met many veterans who suffered from ptsd from the Vietnam war.
Anyway, getting back to episode, Kevin Conway was excellent as Willie. His recollections to Harm about being a POW is chilling, especially term of King of Fleas was a collaborator and weakest man in pow camp.
Also, chilling is when Willie tells harm about soviets coming to camp to send American pilots back to Russia for interrogation. That plot point will become important later on as Harm does go to Russia to find his father.
Anyway, Kevin Conway was so good that he came back in the later episode Martin/Baker Fan Club
Masters of the Universe (1987)
Langella's skeletor is best part of movie
Have watched this movie many times, as grew up with He man and she ra on Saturday morning cartoons. Best part is Frank Langella who. Brings his Shakespeare and Broadway background to Skeletor. Also, Meg Foster is deliciously evil as Evilyn. Also Robert Duncan McNeil is great as boyfriend to Julie and one of his earliest roles before ST Voyager. Billy Barty is great as Gwildor and a young Courtney Cox is Julie.
Great movie just to watch Frank Langella chew up a one dimensional role into a multi faceted villain.
Quantum Leap: The Leap Home: Part 2 (Vietnam) - April 7, 1970 (1990)
Excellent quantum episode
Seen this episode several times and am impressed with the shock ending. Spoiler: POWs that Sam and Tom's unit are after is none. Other than Al Calavicci. When Andrea Thompson and Al say Pulitzer, but not for her, we get a clue who the 3rd POW is. At the end, Sam says' 'you could have been free', but Al says he was always free as he taps his forehead, and it would take 5 years, before Al is repatriated.
Only someone like Don Bellisario could write an episode about what the Vietnam War was like, from a veteran himself
