The Invisible Man (2020)
Dark and Darker
I HATE movies when they process the look like you are in a mega dark cave...I stopped watching it...Only bright spot is the numbers on the clock by the bed...
Border Incident (1949)
Border Realities Back Then...Close To Our Border Life Today
John Alton shoot the film with plenty of artistic flair...Some pretty amazing shots even in a desert enviornment...Some respectable actors and a more than mundane script make this an incident to watch and take note of...
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
So Much Wrong Here...
Positive is Chloe, the lead actress...She is served up a steaming pile of dialogue and storyline and she does her best to carry on...Supporting gents get nothing but stilted and banal dialogue...One interesting aspect of this is her being trapped in the turret down below...She creates some small nugget of drama thanks to that scenario...and the gremlin? Let's not even go there...If you have literally NOTHING to do, do
give it a view...but if you have the weekly garbage to dump...go ahead and pass...
Small Town News KPVM . Pahrump (2021)
A Bit Too Staged...But worth A Look
Six eps of "Small Town News" Pahrump is a tad lame...
Located in a matket so small with under 40k in the Nye County valley, KVPM goes through staff quicker than water thru your sink facuet...
Vern (the station owner) had the dream and he seems like Willy Loman making KVPM stay alive and on air day by day...The news director has an unusual personality and she has been on the Pahrump tube for years...
Chickens surround the building and THE NEWS is what keeps the station stay alive...
For me, a large part of the so called documentary seems horribly staged...rarely a glimpse or two of reality breaks through...
You watch "Storage Wars", turn in HBO and check this out...
Barry (2018)
A Rarity...GREAT TV
Entire series is spectacular...
Full of plot twists, intense action, excellent acting, and stunning TV...
Even if you pass on the series you MUST view Season 2, Episode 5...
Directed, written, and staring Bill Hader...this ep takes you to new heights rarely obtained watching the tube in your den...Simply, NO WORDS...
Jackie Brown (1997)
Mr Q's Flicks Always A Good Watch...
Intriguing puesdo mystery flick with plenty of turns down multiple plot trails...BUT...I like the acting from everyone in the credits especially the actor who steals every scene he is in...Robert Forester even got an Oscar nomination as he created the bail bondsman with a heart...Back the film up with tight direction fronm Tartentino and a stunning soundtrack and you end up with one of Quentin's top films...And after your FIFTH or TENTH viewing you fall more in love with this American celluloid treat...
Stowaway (2021)
I Wasted So Much Time Watching This That I Refused To Turn It Off...Oh, Flog Me Again!
GAR - BAGE!
No story...characterization...nor creation of a desire for a human being to watch this MINDLESS drivel...
Ask me how I like this flick...come on...I dare ya!
The Sea Wolf (1941)
Find It...Watch It
Have NEVER seen this flick before...
Superb cast, great story, deep rich characterizations, and tight directing...
This cinematic ship sails into richly charted celluloid territory with a crew of WB's best...
Robinson was so, so good and Lupino top of her craft...Garfield typed as normal as a rebel...but for me there was one tip top performer...
Straying so out of his movie character, Barry Fitzgerald was AWESOME as the thieving cook...
Find this film and sail into movie heaven, if only for a brief time in your day...
Oh, did ya think I liked "The Sea Wolf"?
Christmas Solo (2017)
LAME Is The Name Of The Game
Tinkling background music...your Christmas season flick 2
101...fake snow as sun shines in back of the scenes...
Another wonderful holiday adventure...NOT!!!
Christmas Comes Twice (2020)
What You Expect For TWO Million Bucks!
Word is that is the budget for these Christmas flicks...Seems they didn't spend it on actors, writers, or overall production value...BUT I suspect they have THE best craft tent in all of Canadian film dom with beyond stellar gourmet grub...That has to be where the production monies travel...So grab a fork and dig in if you are hankering to BLOW two hours of your precious life...Oh, and have a VERY Merry Christmas...TWICE...
Now pass me the salt...
Driving Miss Daisy (1989)
Real Deal Film
What an excellent film has IS characterization...This is near the top of the heap for a rich look into the characters who drive the storyline...Tandy at the top of her game and the rich work of Freeman make the flick more than brilliant...An unsung part of the cast is Aykroyd as the caring son...He works with many subtle nuances on the screen to help hold together the narrative...But the unsung hero of the film is Hans Zimmer...His original music score sets the RIGHT mood over and over again...Want to see a movie done right, this is it...You most certainly will enjoy the ride...
Primrose Path (1940)
Excellent RKO Fick With Top Drawer Cast
Rogers was so good in this potboiler...Mucho corny dialogue aplenty but the cast digs in and makes it a believable cinematic treat...At the time the plot was earthshaking but today is so tame...Good old Hollywood with SOME locale shooting and heaps of studio sets...McCrea seems like a bloke you would like to hang with and the other cast members more than know their craft...Take the time and travel up on The Primrose path...It's a fulfilling journey...
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2020)
Joke Fails Second Time Around
Movie flat and not funny...BUT Maria Bakalova is a fresh new star...Worth your time to see her in action...but dat's it...
Shortwave (2016)
Rate It Lower If I Could
"I want my 88 minutes back!"
Worst filck ever...Mean it as it is total garbage...
Brewster McCloud (1970)
Back Then This Was Bad...Today It Is WORST!
Altman was a genius? I don't see it. This film had good actors, interesting locales, and NO script. The direction was from another planet. What can you say, but yeah, you gotta watch it because it is that dumb!
Don't Go Near the Water (1957)
In That Era It Worked
Ford does his good comedic acting as this humorous tale moves forward behind the enemy lines...Navy PR types are out of war action but lots of old style hijinks happen in all three acts...Fred Clark is excellent as the bumbling CO...Two love interest stories plus funny slapstick give this MGM effort a roadmap to laughter success...And hats off to Shaughnessy as the cursin' sailor with heaps of tats...A good view...
Night Flight (1933)
Wake Me Up When it's Over
Slow and super plodding script...Horrid writing with sadly a top draw cast...See why this is a relatively unknown Hollywood effort back in '33...Got so I didn't care if the plane came in...
Greyhound Attack (2019)
Garbage Is Too Kind A Word To Describe This TRASH
OK, looks like used vacuum hoses for the oxygen masks...WORST key effects ever...Shot in GA...Waste of computer space shooting this horrid mess...Now, ask me what do I really think about this flick...Got a used barf bag on hand?
Hornet (2018)
Can't Go Lower Than ONE With A Rating
B movies can be bad, horrid, and totally stinko..."Hornet" should not be allowed to stay on our planet...Take non defined characters and blend in ZERO storyline and you end up with this...Can't sleep? Solved that problem for ya.. Stream this mush and enjoy some sweet dreams...Zzzzzz
The Aliens (2017)
A Hidden Jewel In The Cinematic World
Been watching TUBI on cable and they have more one star movies than any place I have found on the tube...but rarely you fine a jewel in their cinematic mineshaft...
This is one...Lead actor did it all...Wrote it, produced it, and directed this whimsical tale that takes a dark turn...
Stephanie Arcila (does lots of Spanish TV) is stellar as a coyote who gets too deep into the dark side of the desert...
Do, please do take some time to search out this flick...You will NOT be disappointed...
Manpower (1941)
Too Damn Long
Bit of a corny WB production with a top acting crew...Contrived story that could have been so much more...Good use of scrim effects plus lots of Burbank backlot action...Once credits rolled you knew the ending...Plus the voice you never forget is in this flick...Eve Arden...
6 Underground (2019)
Gee, How About A Story Guys...
Into local music, sound effects, and CGI stuff? If so, this flick is for you. Opening chase runs endlessly. All down hill from there. 150 mil? I want my Netflix bill lowered. Stop producing CRAP like this.
Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary (2019)
Same Warmth Found In the Original Film
They charged top dollar to see this here in Sin City...$16 a seat and I was ticked off entering the theatre BUT it ended once the documentary was projected on the screen...
This is an in depth look at the making and the heart and soul of "Galaxy Quest"...
Immediately you learn it was a labor of love from all associated with the project...
Not a comedy, GQ was first and foremost a drama...
Film participants talked...Critics talked...Plus there were the fans...GQ was the FIRST flick to embrace and be embraced by nerd fandom....Today it is a given, back in 1999 it wasn't that way...
Only thing that seemed a bit troubling was the lack of mention of the heavy in the film, the character Sarris...Even though the actor has passed (Robin Sachs) I wondered why no mention of that crucial role in the film...Some issues we don't know?
Regardless this will be a "MUST SEE" when it hits some streaming net soon...
Worth the money? I'll say...MY Quest was fulfilled...
Lumberjack Man (2015)
Never Stops Movin' Along
Normally slasher flicks bore the heck of of me...but LM made a mark on my laugh chart...Even howled out loud THREE times watching it n the early morning hours on cable...
Nobody known acting folks put on a decent show with a lame script that serves up satire dripping on more than than pancakes here...
One thing I noted was the excellent music score...If it was lifted from other sources, that's fine...They did a wonderful job heightening the suspense all through the reels...
Hats off to all for entertaining me at a very low level...actually a place I like to hang now and again...
Agent Carter (2015)
A "REAL" TV Gem...An Agent Who Earns Her Commission
What? A TV series that smells, acts and watches like a "REAL" movie? Yep, "Agent Carter" serves up real characters and some tight direction that takes us down the story line path that has a bit of a stench but one that we can so tolerate...Kinda like a sweet smelling onion...Kudos to Marvel and ABC for putting this on broadcast TV...Characters really die (over and over again) and the fight scenes are real intense but covered with cutaways to a radio serial being produced in a studio with sound effects and great VO's...What a surprise...What a treat...What DELICIOUS TV viewing...You HAVE to watch "Agent Cater" for this is one of those rare instances where TV steps up and truly entertains...
