Man of Steel (2013)
Being different doesn't make the movie outstanding
Despite all the hypes, I don't think the movie really worth a second watch. Yeah it's a different take from the common "superheroes" theme and a little darker from the original Superman, but it doesn't really makes the movie outstanding. There are few things that didn't make sense. I found myself thinking "wtf, why they do that? why they didn't do this etc" many times throughout the movie. I can't say what they are without giving out spoilers though.
The fighting scene? Typical, boring, nothing new. You may watch the movie for special effects, but even that is nothing new. I give the movie 5 for decent acting. None of them irritates me, at least not much.
Silent Hill: Revelation (2012)
Didn't feel like watching a movie. I don't know what it is.
Now I'm okay with movies that didn't follow exactly like the original plot from games, books, etc like the first Silent Hill movie, I think it is still fine. But this one is just BAD. I'm not sure what I was watching but I didn't feel like I was watching a full movie. It just lack of many things. Maybe it's too short, maybe Silent Hill 3 is just not suitable to be made into a movie because the story is all about Heather trying to find the truth about herself, and since we already knew that at the beginning, what is there to tell anymore? And we as an audience already knew how her father is doing, only Heather didn't know, again there's nothing to look forward too. We just merely watching Heather going from point A to B and nothing else. It is that dull and plain.
And the horror? the movie is trying too hard to be creepy. What's with all the pointless close up of meat cutting and bloody mouthful eating. I don't know it just didn't work for me.
Sinister (2012)
Seriously all the good reviews?
Really, don't fall for the good reviews here because the movie is NOT that scary or creepy, or good at all. Don't get me wrong, I love slow pace detective sorta movie, I'm not the kind that only into mindless action/gory so that's not the reason why I think this movie is bad. The fact that they make the movie seems like there will be an actual smart explanation to the mystery is what makes it very disappointing. The beginning show some potential, it actually makes me wanna follow the main character in his quest to finds out the truth on what actually happened to the families and who was the killer. But then, like any bad movie, after piling up all the questions, making us wait for answers (and even make me do some thinking and speculation there), it just dump a very typical ghost story at the end. The ending won't be as disappointing if they removed the detective "feel" in the movie and just make it a mindless ghost/spooky action like Insidious.
