Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023)
Pretty Danged good.
I loved the books and absolutely abhorred the first movie versions.i understand that movies and books are different story-telling media, and that things have to be cut or done differently, but the way they fumbled the ball on those attempts was awful.
However, if the first two episodes of the new series are any indication, then I think we're all in for a treat. Is it perfect? No. The acting is mostly okay, and the set design for Camp Half-Blood is fantastic. The effects are great, and Walter Scobell makes a great Percy, especially as Logan Lerman was way too old.
If I have one real complaint, it's that the music is overwrought. There's too much of it, it's too loud, and it often doesn't really go well with what's happening on screen. The best bits were when the music is absent.
Oh, and Percy flossing? Hilarious.
The Thing (1982)
Waste of time.
The internet had led me to believe that The Thing was the scariest movie ever made, and to say that I was disappointed would be to give this movie too much credit. Sure, it's somewhat suspenseful, but only in the sense of "When is something going to happen?" And then when something does happen, it's just not scary. It's merely gross, and usually also laughably cringe-worthy.
Apparently, I have to use up 192 more characters, so I guess I'll make fun of the special effects. I mean, this was 1982, so I wasn't expecting much, and I don't hold it against the movie. But watching 40-year-old creature effects and imagining people being scared of them is pretty funny.
2149: The Aftermath (2016)
Absolute Nonsense
This is probably the dumbest movie I've ever seen. The acting is okay-ish, but the characters do dumb stuff that doesn't make any sense. Why didn't Darwin visit his mother's pod when he first left? Why do they move the table to dance if they live in the forest? This was an okay concept that was just obliterated by incompetent writing and direction.
Love, Death & Robots (2019)
1st season was better
I feel like some of the episodes in season 2 were a little too short, and there were less than half as many episodes as season 1, so all in all season 2 was a little disappointing. It's not bad; season 1 just set the bar too high.
The animation is absolutely gorgeous, though.
