My Silent Partner (2006)
Decent movie but a little predictable at times.
This movie has a good line up of characters. It has a decent plot about a policewoman going through a divorce. She needs an attorney. She has no money to find a good one and finds herself being represented by a smug attorney who claims to be doing it because he feels bad for a mother in her situation. Unfortunately he turns out to be a mob attorney who starts to extort her for information.
The ending was almost expected but not fully the way I thought it would go. Decent movie but a little predictable at times.
I recommend it as a good flick to watch on a lazy Saturday afternoon. One of those movies to pop up some popcorn and snuggle up to your spouse or loved one.
Jaianto robo (1967)
Come Giant Robot
I was just a in Kindergarten when I first seen this show. I remember I had to be in front of the television everyday to watch it. Along with Speed Racer.
I remember running around with my friends and yelling into my watch, "Come Giant Robot".
This show was one of the best memories at that age. Fortunately for me I have most of the episodes on video tape. They aren't the best copies in the world, but when I sit down and watch them....boy do the memories flow.
One of my most favorite episode is where the bad guys steal the watch that controls Giant robot and I believe they clone Johnny Sokko. They use the clone who orders Giant robot to destroy things. At one point in the episode, Giant Robot is ordered to destroy the good guys. A very emotional part happens as the real Johnny Sokko is looking at his best friend Giant Robot picking up something to throw to destroy him. Johnny Sokko began to cry, and ask giant robot to do the right thing.....the robot has a hard time throwing the item at the good guys and freezes...until one shocking ending....
Needless to say...it has a happy ending...
I give this show one of my highest ratings...hey the special effects weren't the best, but it was the 70's!!!
The Dukes of Hazzard (2005)
Just the Good IL' Boys
Well I must say, I went to this movie not expecting much out of it. To my surprise, it wasn't as awful as I thought it was going to be. In fact, it is the only remake I have seen so far...that tries to hold true to the original storyline.
Jessica Simpson does a fine job of playing Daisy Duke...but a Cahterine Bach she will never be! I honestly think Burt Renyolds would have made a better Rosco then boss...but hey he did a decent job.
The movie had a lot of laughs and is very enjoyable....if you don't get to caught up in the fact that there are no Cameos from the original cast.
Johnny Knoxville (Luke) and Seann William Scott (Bo), do a wonderful job of playing the Duke boys...brought into the 21st century.
One of the things that troubled me about this movie when I saw it advertised was the southern flag issue....the very trademark of the General Lee....and believe me...I am not getting into a political debate....nor will I say it's right or wrong...because frankly I really don't know all the issues....but I know there was a lot of controversy behind it over the years....but when you see how well they cover the issue, hopefully you will be as surprised and impressed as I was....with the key part being when they are stuck in traffic on their way to Atlanta...I loved that part!
Only one thing troubled me about this whole movie.....Willie Nelson...hey you the man...but hey man...I am sorry and I mean no personal offense to you...but don't ever try to sing that song again....sometime folks just aren't meant to sing certain songs....
I would say...if you can get past the hang ups...such as no cameos...and understand it's a remake...not the original...this can be a very good movie for you....
If you can't get past the whole remake issue...this movie is not for you...
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Worth seeing but a bitter pill for fans of the first one to swallow...
John Depp (Wonka) is the key most important part of this movie...along with the kid who plays Charlie (Freddie Highmore)...
Together they make the movie worth seeing...BUT...if you are a fan of the original.... there is a high chance you will be disappointed in this one to a point....
I think this movie is best seen...without having seen the original....in fact if you can try to put the original out of your mind...and pretend you are seeing this for the first time...it's decent....
It has some pretty funny jokes in it....the Oompa Loompa...songs are more modern..but are very hard to understand at times....
On a scale from one to ten...I give this a 5.5, because it's good at times...and has it's moments....but since I was a fan of the original...it was also at times a bitter pill for me to swallow...
S.W.A.T. (2003)
Not all remakes can come close to the original but...
This one sure tries. **SPOILERS WITHIN**
Now as a child, I grew up dancing around to the original music. Run around with my toy machine gun with my hat turned backwards. Pretending I was T.J.
Okay this movie starts out, we see a swat team fighting a bunch of Bank robbers. These bank robbers remind me of the incident that happened several years ago, where the police had trouble stopping them because they wore full body protection.
Anyway, Colin Farrel (Jim Street) and his partner Gamble (Jeremy Renner) ignore a stand down order and attack the bank robbers. Injuring a hostage. They both have it out with their Captain. Gamble quits SWAT, and Street starts doing cage work (the cleaning, and polishing thing).
Things are getting bad in the city, and Sgt. Hondo (Samuel L. Jackson) is called in to set up a super team. Naturally he picks Street to come back, and be part of the team. Along with the likes of Deke (LL Cool J) and TJ McCabe (Josh Charles).
Well Hondo forms a group of five SWAT members, plus himself. They train, and pass a hard test. They are assigned to transport a prisoner who is one bad dude. He offers 100 million dollars to anyone who will get him out. This of course brings every crack pot in the city out.
It is almost non stop action. The music has a little bit of tone in it, that reminds you of the song from the show. This with Them humming the song in one scene, and some cameos by some of the original cast. This movie makes the grade.
Steve Forrest who played in the original, is one of the ones who sticks out the most. At the end of the movie he is in a small segment and that to me, was like passing the torch on to the next generation.
I must say I was a little disappointed what they did with one of the characters, who ironically has the same name as one of my favorites from the original. Those writers need to come up with better angles for this characters. Yes I can do better. Give me the chance!!
This aside the movie was pretty good. I give this a 7 out of 10. Decent flick, above average.
The Karate Kid (1984)
A timeless classic, that has a meaning within the meaning!!
***Spoilers within********
This movie is just awesome. The story of a kid who is taken from his comfort zone, and dragged across many states. He is placed within a world he is not use to.
He makes an enemy with the towns most notorious Karate experts, because he falls in live with the leaders x-girlfriend. These Karate experts unfortunately go to the same school as him. They beat him to a pulp day after day.
At the same time he befriends an old man who not only teaches him how to fight these karate experts. But he teaches him the meaning of life, friendship, Karate (and above all)love. A love that goes beyond that of a boyfriend-girlfriend. The type love a father should give his son.
This is a timeless classic, that has a meaning within a meaning. The meaning seems to be, if someone believes in you and you believe in them and yourself. You can soar as high as you want. But the meaning within the meaning is: if you stop and look beyond the appearance of something, you may just find that there is something special hidden in us all. Deep, I know. But fact of life.
I give this movie 9 out of 10. Excellent flick!!
Scary Movie 2 (2001)
Just down right bad. Some movies are best with no sequels.
I saw the first part; Scary movie, and thought this may be worth seeing. But when I saw this movie, I was shocked. I must say it is just down right bad. Tori Spelling gives one of the worst performances of her career. Don't waist your money on it.
I give this a big fat 0
Jason X (2001)
Worst movie I have ever seen. I Would not even suggest renting if its in the free section.
Just Plain bad. I Would not even suggest renting if its in the free section. Even if someone offers to loan you this movie, refuse.
It is horrible, with no value to it. Had some of the worst plot lines a movie ever came out with.
I give it a less than a big fat zero!!
The Wraith (1986)
Revenge has never been sweeter!!
***CONTAINS SPOILERS***
I actually seen this movie in its release at the movie theater. I was working as an usher at a local movie house, at the ripe age of 16. I got to see movies for free then. Boy do I miss that benefit. I just rented it again, after all these year. I must say it hasn't lost its edge.
Charlie Sheen Plays a teenager killed because he is in love with the same girl that a local nut case is. He then returns as a spirit out for revenge, and revenge has never been sweeter. He comes back with a super fast car with amazing abilities. He challenges his killers to road races, killing them each off in a well deserved manner.
I give this movie a 6 out of 10.
Revenge of the Nerds (1984)
A movie that defined a generation!
***Spoilers within*** **Spoiler alert**
This is a movie that defined a generation. It is a film that brought to light the true meaning of geek, nerd, and many more words that described the unique group of people who were laughed at, picked on while going to school and doing their thing.
To make a long story short, a group of out casts form their own fraternity. The thing is, they are "NERDS". The "popular" group picks on the nerds with very little pity, and tries to destroy the efforts at fitting in. That is until the worm turns and the nerds strike back.
Its a laugh a minute and as with many of the 80's movies shows the under dog overcoming odds, and the bullies.
I can relate to this movie, because I was a nerd. Yes you heard it right. I was a nerd. After watching this movie and some other movies like TEEN WOLF, and KARATE KID. I realized being a nerd wasn't so bad. In fact I am proud to be a nerd. I made friends that I am still in touch with to this day.
NERDS, NERDS, NERDS!!!
I have to give this movie a 7 out of 10.
Scarface (1983)
Take a look at the bad guy!!
****Contains spoilers***** ****Spoilers within****
This movie is awesome. I have seen it somewhere near 100 times. Each time I do, I see something new.
This is Al Pacino in one of his most memorable roles as Tony Montana. The Cuban refugee turned Drug Dealer. This combined with an utterly fabulous Soundtrack, including songs sung by Amy Holland. What more can you ask for.
The movie is filled with a lot of violence including a chain saw sequence that still makes me flinch every I hear the sound of one.
One of the best parts of the whole movie is the climax. Tony Montana has crossed all his associates, killed his best friend and has hit rock bottom. He has his head pile of cocaine, and is faced with a mob of hired killers. Some of the best lines ever said in a movie take place in the final minutes of the movie. Including, "Say hello to my little friend!!"
I purchased a VHS version a long time ago. Its worth every dollar I paid for it. I also own the soundtrack, which is also worth every dollar I paid for it!!
I give this movie a 9 out of 10
Christine (1983)
Hell Hath no fury like a Plymouth Fury!
***CONTAINS SPOILERS*** ***SPOILERS****
This movie is based on the Stephen King Novel. It leaves out some details that if you ever get the chance read the book, they will become perfectly clear.
Its a story about Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon), who is picked on a pushed around by the school bullies. Even with the help of his best friend Dennis Guilder (John Stockwell), Poor Arnie just can't catch a break. That is until the day a beat up 1958 Plymouth Fury comes into his life. Through the combined efforts of Arnie, Christine and materials provided by an old crabby Junk yard owner Will Darnell(Robert Prosky); CHRISTINE is reborn into an awesome shinny red hot rod.
During the process though, a new evil Arnie also emerges. Perhaps even possessed by the car's former owner. A man who in Will Darnell's words was "so mean you could pour boiling hot water down his throat and he'd (go to the bathroom) Ice cubes."
During the transformation he gains a girl friend, Leigh Cabot (Alexandra Paul). She is so jealous of the car she actually calls it many bad names, resulting in Christine trying to cause her to choke to death.
Arnie is blamed for the expulsion of Buddy Repperton (Willaim Ostrander), who seeks revenge by getting is gang of rotten to the core friends together and trash Christine.
It is after this incident that Arnie finds out Christines power of regeneration. Christine than goes out and seeks revenge on each and every person who trashed her. Needless to say, they won't be trashing anymore cars.
The soundtrack has some awesome music, that is a big help in bringing the plot to one big climax.
I give this movie a 9 out of 10.
When Michael Calls (1972)
Also know as "Shattered Silence"
***CONTAINS SPOILERS***
Ben Gazzara, Michael Douglas in the same movie. What more do you need to know!?
This is a movie about Helen (Elizabeth Ashley), a single mother going through a difficult divorce. She lives on a small new england farm with her daughter and grandparent. Her generally peaceful life becomes filled with terror, when some one claiming to be her dead son Michael who had run away fifteen years ago and was believed to be killed in a blizzard.
This movie starts out a little slow, until the phone calls start. It then builds into a frantic conclusion with Michael Douglas giving an all-star performance as a psychiatrist who should be a patient.
I give this movie a 6.5 out of 10. Yes I have seen better, but for goodness sake I have seen a lot worse.
Teen Wolf (1985)
A teen movie that will make you howl for more!
****This comment contains spoilers!!****
I first saw this movie when I was fifteen years old. It has always had quite an impact on my life. Growing up, I was never really that popular until I saw this movie one day. I took the underline point to heart. It's not about how cool you are. It's about the quality of what is inside of you. So Instead of worrying about what I clothes wore, or who I hung out with. I worried about being myself. I took the knowledge I learned from this movie to heart, and made some really good friends that I am still close to this very day.
Michael J. Fox plays the role of a confused teen Scott Howard, who has dreams of being a great basketball player, and dating the hottest chick in school. No matter what he does, he can't impress anyone. Always confiding in a girl he grew up with. Looking at her as more of a friend then a potential Girlfriend. That all changes when he discovers he's really a werewolf. When he is the werewolf he is super cool, and everyone loves him. He becomes the best basketball player on the team, the most popular figure in shcool, and hooks up with the hottest chick in school, and has a real howl. The thing is, he finds out when you are the King of the hill, you never know who your true friends are. Sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence. He also find out sometimes beauty can be only skin deep when he sees the hot chicks true colors. After much thought and self searching, he decides to put the werewolf on the shelf, and realizes that by letting his true self out, he can be every bit as good as anyone else. He also realizes that the very girl he looked to as a friend is the very girl he has been looking for.
It has one of the most beautiful songs that ever appeared in a movie. "Shootin' for the moon," Sung by Amy Holland. It puts a great touch on the end of the movie when Scott Howard make the final game winning shot.
This combined with some of the other great songs, this movie is just awesome. Michael J. Fox is the perfect actor for this role.
For those who grew up in the 80's, if you take a moment and watch this movie. When its over, and you close your eyes you may get some flashbacks to days gone by.
I give this movie a 9 out of 10.
The Breakfast Club (1985)
A timeless movie that takes a look at teen life
This is a timeless movie that takes a look at teen life. It is a great story line. Keep in mind, each of us growing up come from different walks of life. This movie looks only at a few, and from a narrow point of view. I have read other comments here that the characters are stereo typical, and that teachers weren't like the one potrayed in the movie. Bad news for you, I grew up with kids similar to these and I had a teacher who was exactly like the one in the film. This movie hits home. I give it an 8 out of 10.
Zapped! (1982)
What don't they make movies like this anymore!
***CONTAINS SPOILERS***
On the surface this is a typical 80's teen movie, but with a twist. Scott Baio Plays the role Barney Springboro. A misunderstood teen scientist with dreams of inventing something big.
Well do to a comedy of errors, something he is working on explodes. Thus giving him telekinetic powers. Guided by the help of his so called best friend, Peyton Nichols (Willie Aames) he begins using his powers to gamble. This upsets his newly found girlfriend Bernadette (Felice Schachter). After some much needed thought, he realizes his powers can be used for much more interesting things.
Heather Thomas plays the "hot" chick, Jane Mitchell. The girl all the guys follow around with the mouths watering.
This movie has a much over looked soundtrack with some great songs by David Pomeranz.
*Movie does contatin a lot of nudity, as did many 80's movies.*
I give it 7 out of 10
The Car (1977)
Movie based on the an Urban legend of Route 666
***Contains Spoilers!!***
This movie about a black sedan that terrorizes a town by running over anybody it can. Is actually inspired by the legend of Route 666. The story goes, that a black sedan or truck sinisterly use to run vehicles off the road, and even play chicken with on suspecting drivers. Legend says this black vehicle is blamed for numerous deaths, and actually at one point in time; had a real Police A.P.B out on it.
If this is not enough to scare you, it is a very little known fact that Anton Levy the one time leader of the satanic church is listed in this movie's credits as an advisor!!
James Brolin gives a wonderful performance as Wade. The unfortunate sheriff faced with the problem of stopping something, that can't be stopped.
The Black car gives off a very sinister sounding air horn that just goes right through you.
I first saw this movie at age 8, on Late night T.V. I must say it gave me nightmares. Watching it now does still gives me a bit of a chill, knowing that out there some where in the Arizona desert, they may be a car just like this!!
I give it 7 out of 10.
