Black Mirror: Mazey Day (2023)
Right episode for the wrong series
This was an ok filler episode. It was entertaining enough. It just doesn't fit with the future sci-fi tech horror elements of the series at all. It leans too much into the supernatural to fit in with the rest of the series. What holds it back is the fact that it's saying it's a Black Mirror episode when it's not really a great fit to be a Black Mirror episode. This would've been a good standalone episode in another series instead of being in the Black Mirror universe. Maybe they need to make a spinoff with a different series that better fits the supernatural theme of the last two episodes. I just hope that we're not jumping shark here with these last two episodes. If we get another season, we need less of the supernatural elements.
Black Mirror: Demon 79 (2023)
Great Story for the wrong series
The story in this episode is entertaining even if the apocalypse thing has been done many times before. Honestly this episode really was good and I'd give it a higher score but what holds it back is the fact that it's saying it's a Black Mirror episode when it's not really a Black Mirror episode. It doesn't fit with the future sci-fi tech horror elements of the series at all. This would've been a great standalone episode in another series instead of being in the Black Mirror series. Maybe they need to make a spinoff with a different series that better fits the supernatural theme of the last two episodes.
Glitter (2001)
Ehh
That pretty much describes the movie. It wasn't as bad as it was made out to be but I wouldn't exactly call it my favorite movie either. It's one of those movies you catch on tv and don't really hate it but it's not going to be your first choice when choosing something to watch. Mariah's acting here isn't going to win her any awards but for someone who wasn't a professionally trained actress she didn't do bad. The movie also gets a bad rep since her career was mess at the time but it's aged better than Crossroads. The timing was just horrible when it came out. I would recommend this movie if you're looking for something to watch in the background or if there's nothing else on tv that interests you.
Catwoman (2004)
Not as bad as it's made out to be
How do I put it? This is one of those movies that's so bad it's good. Kinda along the same line as Showgirls. Sure the effects have aged horribly and the script is crap but it's enjoyable enough if you don't take it seriously and enjoy it for the campy film it's maybe unintentional become. I don't know what happened but they really screwed up Catwoman's story. They had all the pieces there with Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman to make a good movie, yet somehow it morphed into this. Thank God it didn't end here for the DC superhero movies. You could tell the talent was way better than the material they were given to work with. And you can't say they didn't have any talented people attracted to the movie because Halle Berry, Benjamin Bratt, Sharon Stone and Alex Borstein are all talented in their own special ways. This movie also seemed like it was rushed into production way to quick because there as some things off about both the script and special effects. But I think this movie is hugely exaggerated on how bad it is. It's not a bad movie but it isn't great. I would recommend this as rental but if you can find it for cheap on sale or watch it for free it's worth a look over
The Favourite (2018)
👎🏽
This movie sucked. Just because you throw on a costume and call it art doesn't make it great. It just shows how much of difference critics tastes and audiences tastes are. The trailer is extremely misleading. There wasn't anything all that funny in this movie. The acting was good but it wasn't good enough to save the movie and make it enjoyable. This movie isn't even worth a rental or to watch it for free. If I could I would've saved two hours of my life and watched something more entertaining.
Ingrid Goes West (2017)
Ingrid Knows What's Up
This movie is actually very smart compared to vapid people it portrays. Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen's acting is what really saves this movie. How do I put it, you either really like this movie or you don't. There is no inbetween on this one. This movie is a genius commentary on our society's social media usage today and how toxic it can be to someone's well being. Ingrid Thorburn is a mentally unstable woman who places social media on high pedestal to how she models her life. She becomes obsessed with Taylor Sloane who feels like any Instagram influencer you can find today. The plot basically follows Ingrid slow decent into madness with her social media obsession with being BFFs with Taylor Sloane. In the end Ingrid ends up getting her own following by posting her failed suicide attempt. So she finally gets the validation that she was looking for in the end even if it came at the almost cost of her life. I liked this movie because it really did show how dependent some people have become getting their life validations from social media and how everything isn't always what it seems like it is online. Elizabeth Olsen is very convincing playing a shallow Instagram influencer. Aubrey Plaza plays crazy just well enough to be likeable in the end. Like I said you either gonna love the message it sends or you're gonna hate it because it doesn't really follow a cookie cutter Hollywood story.
Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)
Both a good time and bad time
This movie was good but it was really hurt by the runtime. It dragged on a little too long in parts. Two hours would've been sufficient compared to the almost two and half hour runtime of this. It has you wondering what's going on with all these characters and what's gonna happen at the end. It can get a little confusing with the multiple timelines but as long as you pay attention it makes sense at the end. The acting wasn't bad but it wasn't good. It's worth a rental but I wouldn't buy it. I will say if you get the message the film was trying to send or look it up online you'll realize that this film had deeper meaning than what you saw. If you watch it again you'll see it in a different light.
Night School (2018)
Meh
I really like Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart's ok if the material is good but this was a case of the talent being better than the material they're given. Or in Kevin's case written. This movie is ok if you want to pass some time and Tiffany shines in what she's given but this is no Girls Trip. You can tell that they made this movie because they're friends that wanted to work together on a movie. I think this is one of those cases where the movie might have benefited better if it was given an R rating to work with. This is more of a rental movie than one to own. It's passable but don't expect much or to remember it in five years. The plots pretty basic if you watch the trailer that's that whole gist of the movie.
A Simple Favor (2018)
One of the suprises of 2018
This movie was surprisingly better than it looked. I had my doubts from the trailer that it would like a lame lifetime movie but this movie had some surprising layers to it. What you think you know in the beginning is thrown out by the end. Blake Lively plays the villian well in her first real villainess role. Anna Kendricks character starts off a little annoying at first but by the end her character is not what she seems on the surface and has more layers. I won't tell you about all the twists but I'll say that this movie is very curvy like a roller coaster. The only negative thing I can think of is that the ending kinda fell apart at the end but not really detrimental to ruin the experience of the movie. It felt like they didn't have the ending planned all out so they went with what they did. It don't ruin the movie so you should still come out satisfied at the end. Go into this movie not expecting much but come out surprised at the end how much better it was than it looked on paper.
Tag (2018)
It's mindless fun
How do I put this movie? It wasn't bad but it's not gonna win any awards either. I liked it enough and if you're looking for a fun comedy that you don't have to think too much about its worth checking out. You probably won't remember it five years from now, but it's worth a rental. I would only buy it if it was on sale for like $5 of something. It's enjoyable enough and there could be worse movies to waste your time on. If you watch the trailer it pretty describes the whole movie. Ed Helms was little bit over the top to the point of being a little annoying but other than that the acting was good. It's nice to know that this was based on a true story. It's cool knowing that there's some real guys out there holding on to their childhood friendship almost 30 years later.
Pose (2018)
Better than it looks.
I was really surprised how excellent this show was. I just finished the first season. I really didn't know how the show was going to be based on the ads and previews, but it was a really good show. It's not just about a bunch of queens being catty with each other. Sure their is some of that in the show but at its core this show has heart and an excellent story. You don't have to be in the LGBTQ community to enjoy the show. Just open minded. I like that they used actual trans actors in this show. Who better to tell their own story than an actual trans person. This show is one the best surprises of the summer. I won't spoil any of the story. Just check it out and find out for your self how good it is.
