Our Cartoon President (2018)
Just a Trump bash fest
Hoped it would be more of a commentary on our broken political system as a whole, not a bash Trump only focus. What a missed opportunity. Focusing on just Trump and his family seems low and malicious. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Trump fan, but there are problems with both republicans and democrats. And attacking his family just seems like they are taking the low road. I'm sure that is the point, but it makes the creators look worse than Trump. Plus, it just isn't funny. I like the art and the voices, but it is too childish for adults and too political for children. Seems like this was made just for Trump bashing proving that both sides are equally corrupt and petty. Could've been good but fails on almost every level.
Ahsoka (2023)
I HATE SABINE
Besides Sabine I really liked this series. There are a few missteps, but overall enjoyable. I love Rosario Dawson and the visuals are excellent. The story is good, but all of that is tainted by Sabine. There is nothing I like about her character. The entire series all I could hope for is for everything to go bad for her. She is so unlikeable, and she is such a selfish villain, I wish for the worst fate to befall her. But of course it doesn't. She does everything wrong. Ashoka would've been better off to have never met her. And worse, she never owns up to her mistakes. Ah, just get rid of her and we'd have a much more enjoyable story.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Some things good others.... Not so much
The good: The visuals obviously, are as good as the first. I like the World of the water people. Great introduction to another part of an interesting World. The whale creatures were very cool. Having another intelligent species with a 3 dimensional backstory was refreshing. The children were also a great addition. Thought I wouldn't like them, but they were interesting, and had a purpose.
The bad: I HATE when sequels bring back characters that were killed off in the previous story. You mean to tell me you can't come up with a new villain?! Like the first movie, I also HATE when humans are just evil. I know we are the villains here, but humanity on the whole does not take pleasure in the death and torture of others. I mean, we even care about animals and won't kill them without reason. Sure, some humans are bad, but virtually every human in this movie was evil, and proud to be it, just like the first movie. Just hate the 1 dimensional nature of the humans. Their motivation to kill in this one was even weaker than the first. Yes, money is always a Cameron motivation for bad humans, but they came back just to kill Sully? Nope, doesn't make sense. And what is with Spider??? Is he a traitor or a friend? He helps the bad guys but is friends with the good guys. His character makes no sense. And yes, it is TOO LONG!!,
Don't get me wrong, it's not an awful movie. But Cameron is a much more clever writer than this. Look at Terminator and T2. Solid, well written movies. Aliens, another great movie, well written. Though Avatar had interesting characters, the core writing didn't make sense and Cameron is known for doing better.
Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher (2014)
Humans should not be invulnerable
Though the story isn't bad, when you headline two human heroes like Black Widow and Punisher, it would be nice if they had human frailties and vulnerabilities. These two can dodge bullets, move with incredible speed, beat an army of super soldiers, take an amazing amount of punishment without a scratch, etc. I like how the movies portray Black widow. She is a human surrounded by superheroes and cannot really stand toe to toe with any of them unlike in this movie. And why does the Punisher try to shoot Black Widow when he first sees her? Why not just fight her hand to hand? Like I said, good story, but they make humans superhuman, which they often do in cartoons. So 5 out of 10. Also would've been nice to see other Avengers heavy hitters sooner.
Black Adam (2022)
Indestructible heroes are uninteresting
Meh. Nothing to like here. Indestructible heroes are uninteresting. The characters are all vanilla. You never like or care about any of them. I admit, I didn't expect much. And unsurprisingly, that is what I got. I thought I wouldn't like the Rock as I'm not a fan of his acting, but that wasn't the problem. It was the writing and the attempts at humor. Felt like they didn't know whether they wanted to make Black Adam a hero or a villain, and it failed. I walked away from this movie not liking it. The only things I liked about it was the post credits. The mother was very pretty, but beauty alone doesn't make for a good movie. All in all, this movie probably shouldn't have been made. I don't know where this trend to make super villain movies came from, but I think they typically fail because the movies lose focus, and the plot ultimately doesn't make sense. I would not recommend this movie. I mentally tuned out half way through out of boredom and apathy.
Blade Runner: Black Lotus (2021)
Started okay, then got stupid
I was interested after the first couple of episodes. Then it turned into a super hero woman who can dodge bullets and beat up everyone she fights. Even when she gets hurt she shakes it off. Surviving explosions without a scratch, etc. After a while the fight scenes get boring and her motivation to continue her mission doesn't make sense. I like to finish what I start watching but I found myself with the last few episodes just tuning out. Very cliché and you end up not caring for anyone. Repetitious and predictable. Animation is substandard compared to today's technology but I was fine with that as long as there is a good story, but this did not have one. Should've been only 6 episodes long max.
Taken 3 (2014)
Innocent of wife's murder but...
He would be arrested for assaulting police officers, stealing a police car, causing millions of dollars of damage on the highway chase and blowing up a parking structure, not to mention all of the deaths and injuries that occurred in the highway chase. So, even if he were innocent of his wife's murder he is guilty of much worse, and they don't change him for a thing. Doesn't make sense.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
Now THAT is a Resident Evil movie!!!
100 times better than the original 6 resident evil movies. And better than the CGI animated movies. They actually made a resident evil horror movie this time. Not an action movie where the characters are more like super heroes. Loved it! Had a lot of references to the video game. This is what I wished the Mila Jovavich movies were, instead of the over the top trash that felt like a 12 year old wrote it. I really hope this movie does well so that they can make many more!
The Devil's Rejects (2005)
Tries to be Tarantino
Rob Zombie tries to be as clever and original as Tarantino and fails miserably. Bed acting, poor writing, uninteresting characters, totally nonsensical situations. No one in the world has the mentality of the "normal" characters in this movie, let alone the lunatics.
Unhinged (2020)
Everything is good except the writing
Great acting, special effects, production value, but as everyone else has said, the heroine is an idiot. Every step of the way she is stupid making the movie highly unrealistic.
WandaVision (2021)
Uhhh, no
Not what I wanted, but sadly, what I expected from some of the promotional stuff I've seen. If I wanted to see 50s tv shows I'd watch 50s tv shows. I don't want to watch 50s tv shows, I want to watch a super hero show based off my beloved marvel heroes. Ugh! Only 30% of the show is any good hence the 3 stars.
Fargo (2014)
What happened to season 4?
I liked the first 3 seasons and was looking forward to 4, but it is boring and pointless. It is like they just want to be quirky for quirky sake. I agree with the reviews that say that season 1 was best, then 2, then 3, and 4 went off the rails. I rated a 7 because the first 3 seasons were good. 4 is rudderless
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Boooooring!!!
I thought this was supposed to be scary. Nothing happens. If I just wanted to watch life I'd record and watch back my day. Brutal. Waste of time. I don't know what the fuss is about. Just awful.
Away (2020)
Cell phones in space?!
I don't mind the drama with space as the backdrop. But if you do that you should, at least, try to make the science believable. Cell phones in space?! You can just pick up a cell phone and call your kid whenever you want? I thought "Away" was supposed to show isolation from earth. If you can call whenever you want, it is just like being across town. And what's with the real-time video link to earth? No delays? Doesn't make any sense. And it lessens the feeling of distance and isolation. Not believable at all.
Story is... okay. I agree that it is very slowly. Most of the episodes I've watched so far are good enough, but more happening in an episode would be great. This could've been told in 3 episodes, not 10. Would help if the science was somewhat believable. And it seems like these astronauts didn't have any real training before going. No one follows orders or respects the chain of command. Like I said, just okay but could've been really good.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Jedi do not have the power to heal
Jedi do not have the power to heal!!! If they did, Anikin Skywalker would've healed his mother and Padmae. It is Because he couldn't heal that he tuned to the dark side and became Darth Vader. There are so many things I don't like about this movie and how it thumbs its nose at the earlier movies, but this is what bothers me most. The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker change the rules of what we learn a Jedi can do, which is unforgivable.
Quarantine (2008)
Boring then gets better
The first 20 minutes is incredibly boring, but it gets better. You may want to fast forward through the first 20 though
Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
I like Bond but....
Why don't they ever shoot him when they have the chance? It gets a little annoying when he kills everyone but when they have him they invite him to dinner.
Mimesis (2011)
Awful!!!
The only reason I can think of that someone would rate this movie above a 1 is because they personally know someone who worked on the project. The writing is cliche, the make up is terrible, the acting is horrendous. Can't find one thing to like about this movie. Just dumb.
Maniac (2018)
If I could give it less than a 1 I would
I started watching it because of the reviews, the actors and that it is a limited series. I HATED it. I agree with all of the 1 star reviews. Not enjoyable, at least for me.
Dark Disciple (2016)
Awful!
It's like the creators of this movie told all of their friends to give this movie a 10. Don't believe the skewed results. Boring, bad acting, with so many thing I hate about indie movies. I would've stopped watching after the first 8 minutes but a friend lent it to me so I felt compelled. I wouldn't have bothered to give a review if the rating was anywhere near accurate. But it isn't. This movie is brutal to watch. Took me 4 sittings to get through it.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
I Loved It!!!!
I don't get why so many people hate this movie. I think this is among the best in the franchise. It is epic, well written, and a total joyride. I'll be recommending this to all my friends. If you are on the fence, watch it for yourself and make your own decision. This is one time the majority gets it wrong. The train fight sequence alone should have every viewer on their feet. It is the absolute BEST X-Men fight sequences of all time!!! The only thing I didn't like about the movie is the X-Men's motivation to want to kill Jean. Everyone knew the death of Raven was a mistake. But other than that, loved it.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Started strong, then went off the rails
The first half of the series was really good. I thought it was the most intelligent telling among all of the Star Trek series'. Then, half way through the season, it got stupid, and felt like any typically poorly written sci-fi show. Total shame too because it had so much potential.
**Spoiler**
Specifically, once they decided to introduce a multiverse, it felt like a completely different show. I was pleasantly surprised when, early on, they decided to kill off a few key characters. But, of course, the multiverse brings them all back, albeit an alternate version of themselves. Multiverses never work because it would be statistically near impossible to have another universe where an alternate you existed, let alone the entire crew. There are too many variables. In a parallel world where infinite choices are made to form the universe, for the story to work, each persons parents would've had to meet, and their parents would've had to meet and so on, which is more than improbable. In actuality, each world should have a new set of characters. Like I said, it started strong, and ended awful.
