Catwoman (2004)
Most of America is tired of fantasy female kung-fu masters
The Matrix was the end of "The Girl Who Knows Kung-fu" fad. America is tired of this kind of fantasy-girl, so it's a dead fad. All the movies that continue to follow this fad, including Catwoman, have been tired and boring. The sexy costumes are great but, almost no one wants to watch silly portrayals of girls fist-fighting. Where has hollywood gone? Movie actresses fifty years ago would never have done junk like this. Sharon Stone is such a great actress and she's capable of so much more than this, why doesn't Hollywood use her more in better roles? Haley Berry won an Oscar and now she's doing this junk? Even the technical aspects of this movie were schlock. The editing both visual and audio were sloppy. I tried to find something I could like about this movie but there wasn't anything there. I went to see this film because Sharon Stone was in it and she did the best job she could with the bad writing they gave her to work with.
The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
Leave it to the smart people in Hollywood...
This summer has been so cold here in NYC, this summer has been like autumn. Leave it to the smartest people in the Hollywood movie business to release a film about the "global warming" ( what ever that is ) destroying New York City in the same summer that NYC experiences the coldest weather in recorded history. That's so embarrassing. To call this film formulaic would be giving it too much credit. You want the formula? Here it is: Film only recognizable things and destroy them with nice special effects. That's pretty much it. The special effects are good but, it's not worth watching the film just for that. Most video games have a better plot. If you're gonna make a dumb movie, the least you can do is put some good old fashioned TNA in it! Less A and more T, thanks.
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)
great movie with thoughtful action
I loved this movie. Yes James Cameron is a much, much better director but, the script was really good. It's sad that James didn't direct it because it was worthy of his attention. This movie has action, laughs, surprise twists and great acting! Arnold has gone the extra yard for a touchdown. Christana Loken was fantastic and a much better terminator than the villain-terminator in T2. Claire Danes gave a wonderful performance and the guy who played the John Conner character left us feeling just the way we should about John Conner. The F/X were really good and there were creative twists. But forget the 'splosions and think about what's being said. These movies are warning about technology out of control. Surprise ending was really good. Over-all: very high quality science fiction that can be appreciated on many levels.
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
Reloaded = The Empire Strikes Back
First let me say I loved the first movie but, Reloaded is BAD. Four stars out of Ten. And that's being kind. I'm not even going to watch the next one.
Whats good: video game-like fight scenes. Agent Smith was the best part of this movie, delivering the best lines, doing the best "reaction shots" and saving Reloaded from being a complete disaster. There should have been more Smith and much less
Morpheus. They did come up with some fresh tricks for the mandatory fight
scene and car chase. At least they didn't hit what Siskel and Ebert once called a "fruit stand". Thats it. The rest was bad.
Not really spoilers but vague hints follow. This movie was a blatant and cheap rip-off of The Empire Strikes Back. The dialog was way overworked and the explanations were impotent. Reloaded was actually boring and the climaxes were anything but. I was yawning, looking at my watch and wincing at the dumb things these poor actors were forced to say. Especially Lawrence Fishbourne.
The Rave-party scene was particularly embarassing to watch because it was laughably out of place, making the entire cast look ridiculous. I was embarassed for the actors, the writers, the directors, and everybody who financed this dog.
Finnally, they're all getting kind of old for this kung-fu in tight leather stuff.
Holes (2003)
mucho gusto! caliente!
Dope performances by all da actors. Miguel Castro was really cool. Sigourney Weaver and Patricia Arquette did great stuff. John Voight and Tim Blake Nelson were funny. This is not like any other Disney movie I've ever seen. This movie was the most fun since Jennifer Lopez Maid in Manhattan.
It Runs in the Family (2003)
Nice movie about a nice Jewish family
All the actors did good work and were great to watch. The oldest Douglas did a real good job and there were moments that he sounded like he did in his youth. The Passover Seder brought back a lot of family memories for me. The relationships were very real and touching and I felt like I knew these people or was related to them. This movie was fun and moving and I really liked it and I think everyone enjoys this even if they are not Jewish.
Sleepers (1996)
so COOL, so controversial
Cool movie! I showed it to all the girls I know and they all thought it was great! I'm gonna watch Sleepers again. I was on the edge of my seat the whole movie and the ending was so cool. Its so great to see an exciting movie that shines light on real-world problems. I don't know why this movie is so controversial. Every month there is another scandal like this on the news.
