Not funny at all
14 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I rented this film thinking it's your standard lighthearted comedy. Like Hallmark style film. I was looking for something fluffy, easy and fun, I wasn't expecting much from this film.

Unfortunately, it was so bad I didn't even know it was possible. It wasn't funny, at all. The main character is trying hard to get his girlfriend's family to like him and goes against his morals in shooting ducks and slaughtering a lamb, and maybe it was meant to be funny, but personally I found these scenes cringe and uncomfortable. I felt so sorry for the guy the entire film.

Also, there is a scene where he takes the ring off a dead person, and I found it disgusting and not funny. Again, maybe my sense of humour is not mainstream, but I didn't like these attempts at comedy. The only saving grace were beautiful scenery, well presented food and Vanessa Hudgens with her sassy acting.

The whole film felt forced and boring, I didn't expect it to be original, but it was much worse than your average Hallmark romance. I really disliked the story, their costumes were very unremarkable, and music throughout the film was very forgettable. I advice to save your money and time and watch something else. This is not funny or interesting.

Heavy film about addiction and dreams
2 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Requiem for a dream is a film about addiction and how having dreams just aren't enough sometimes. Addiction can take everything away from you.

It starts with Harry, who is an addict who keeps selling his television for a bit of cash to buy drugs. His mother Sara enables him by rebuying the television.

Everything starts to get worse when Sara gets a call about being invited to participate in her favourite programme and she becomes obsessed with fitting into her red dress she wore for her son's graduation. She ends up getting pills from the doctor to help her lose weight.

Everything starts to spiral, she becomes more and more addicted, her son who is an addict tries to stop her.

Harry and his girlfriend have their own dreams, but as time goes on, their addiction grows and their chances at fulfilling their dreams shrink. Eventually they lose everything to addiction, including friendship, love and hope.

This film is very dark, heavy and memorable. I absolutely love the music and how it's filmed. It has dark lighting, and you can really feel the characters spiralling and falling down the rabbit hole of their addiction. Delusion and loneliness are portrayed really well. Everyone loses their dreams to addiction and it's absolutely heartbreaking.

This film doesn't make you feel good, and that's the point.

Twin Peaks (1990–1991)

One of a kind experience
2 March 2024
Twin Peaks is one of a kind. It's not just a tv show, it's an experience. No matter how many times I have watched it, it makes me feel something special. Like there is so much more mystery in this world, that it's not as dull as your everyday life.

This show is beautiful in so many ways. Starting with music, it creates a very unique atmosphere and mysterious feeling around the show. It's perfect for it. Angelo Badalamenti has outdone himself and Laura Palmer's theme stays with you after you finish the show.

This show has brilliant actors and their costumes are stunning, every outfit is special, every scene has so many details to it. It's a show, with bewitching scenery and stunning sets. It makes you want to be there, to experience the town of Twin Peaks. Even when it's dark and dangerous.

This show starts with "Who killed Laura Palmer?", which looks like a whodunit story, but as it unfolds, it becomes one of a kind story, that challenges your imagination and your beliefs. What is evil? Where did it come from? David Lynch daringly explores themes of abuse, psychological and physical, insanity, and what is evil, the worlds beyond ours, he pushes every boundary and creates unique television. This show is not everyone's cup of tea. You have to be able to accept that you don't get answers to majority of your questions and most things are down to the viewer's interpretation.

All in all, this is a show that is an inspiration and a challenge to the viewer. I highly recommend it if you want a unique adventure and to explore a dark and mysterious world beyond your imagination.

Lilya 4-Ever (2002)

Unforgettable film
1 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched this film when it just came out and then once again a few years later. It's been over 20 years and I still remember most of the film.

It's one of the most sad, dark and realistic films I have ever seen. It is based on a true story, and it's told in a provoking, truthful way. The main character, who is a teenager, is struggling to provide for herself after being abandoned by her mother. She resorts to prostitution. She meets a man who promises her the world and then takes advantage of her in the worst ways. She also has a best friend who has his own tragic life.

The entire film is extremely graphic, which makes it both scarily realistic and unforgettable. It's not doing it for the shock value, but to bring awareness and to build character's experience. It helps to understand the choice she makes at the end.

It's a very heartbreaking film and the last moments still bring me a lot of sadness. It's a realistic take on sex trafficking, poverty and result of physical and psychological abuse. This film deserves all the praise.

Hallmark meets Hollywood
21 July 2020
This is going to be my first ever review. I just had to share my thoughts on this film. When I saw a trailer I thought it would be a fun film to watch. I am not a very picky person when it comes to comedies. I couldn't be more wrong about this film. It wasn't funny at all. I felt like an entire film was so much like Hallmark films with PG friendly characters but then there is sex subject that doesn't get any spicy scenes. It wasn't either proper predictable romantic Hallmark film you would watch on Christmas about two people falling in love nor a sexy comedy with dirty jokes and funny scenes. I am a fan of Lucy Hale and that is why I watched it. Unfortunately for me the whole story was a cringe fest. If you consider watching this film, think Hallmark film with super PG friendly love story which meets somewhat not spicy sex comedy where is no sex scenes or anything funny. I can't even pick one thing I liked about this film. Really disappointing.
